This is brilliant, the papers say Barca want to pay £70m for Torres, but last week were saying they couldn't afford £30m for Cesc.

Benayoun really deserves to be treated better than he was at Liverpool.

what I've read is that Laporta, the current club president wanted to get Cesc in, but his term is over on 30th June and the new president wants Torres.

in all truth they can afford whomever they want, funding not an issue for them, seee Torres as a far better fit to go big on form a football sense, thing is though isn't a he a proper thru & thru Madrista ?

To think he nearly ended up with us before West Ham!
Just make sure that he's signed. Rather than telling everyone he's signed and then signing for someone else.

        Yes, I'm bitter.

Atletico Madrid (who he began his career with and captained), NOT Real Madrid.

Indeed, he is about as anti-Real Madrid as one can be.

I know all that, but as a big Madrid (athletico) fan he still would have no love for Barca, obviously less for Real.

From my understanding the rivalry isn't particularly intense between Atletico and Barcelona, certainly not like Betis-Sevilla or Atletico/Barcelona-Real Madrid.

I don't think his playing for Barcelona would be seen as anything special in that sense, where as him moving to Real would be an incredible story.

                  Not really.

Is correct. If anything, Barca fans would probably welcome him precisely because he despises Real Madrid like they do.

Seems to be gathering momentum. I don't know whether to be incredibly excited or utterly terrified - I think ultimately both!

Certainly was a wonderful player, it'll be interesting to see how good he is and if he's really interested in making an effort. We do gravitate towards troublemakers.

I've been more excited waiting for the fixture list this morning than the World Cup so far

I love an big home match on the opening day. And all I miss while I'm on holiday is Wigan at home and West Brom away, so it's worked out quite well.

not often I type these words but there was a great article in the free sky magazine you get sent about the company that specialises in prodcuing fixture lists and the advanced mathematics that go into doing it for a whole season, taking into account police issues, local events etc.

good opening weekend though, not sure for us gunners if its good to get a trip to anfield out the way early before things settle down or not, get some odd results in the first few weeks of a season, especially after a WC

Liverpool at home on the opening day? They've been robbed of their favourite conspiracy theory!

Yeah, there was a similar thing on the BBC website last year: Link

                                It's utterly fascinating.
