1) Super Aleste - John Henderson (Kubrick) Ah, the Nintendo Super Famicom. Without doubt a brilliant machine, and one that will instantly evoke fantastic memories for anyone who ever owned one during it's heyday. However, it's a format that is often overlooked & glossed-over whenever talk of 2D shooting games enter the conversation. The purists will tell y... -

3) Umihare Kawasi
1) Raccoon Rascal - Simon Dominguez (Nyarthmaul) If we had the budget for a time machine here at Bordersdown, we know exactly what we'd do with it. We'd to back to early 20th century America and visit the great author Sterling North just after his mother died to offer him some words of consolation. "Sterling," we'd say. "Things seem bad right now, but take heart. One day you... -

2) Clock Tower: Love, Peas and Piece of Child
3) Area 88 (AKA UN Squadron)
1) Pop'n Twinbee - Rob Bowker (Hankwangford) Konami owe much of their early successes to the traditional shooter and all of its variations. In the 80s and early 90s, they commanded much respect for their understanding of what made a shooter tick in both vertical and horizontal adoptions, with old school style gameplay in titles like Gradius and... -

The Untold History of Japanese Game Devlopers review (DVD and Book)
In May 2013, John Szczepaniak, a Bordersdown member and occasional article contributor, fired up a Kickstarter project. The aim was to get £50k to fund a 10 week trip around Japan to interview developers and relevant entities connected to the history of Japanese videogaming, as well as visiting historical locations, with the output being a book and DVD. His backers smashed through to £70k. John sent us the book and DVD, so I took a break from playing games to check out The Untold History of Japanese... -

Tokyo Game Show 2013 Retrospective
Of all the quotes about the Tokyo Game Show, all the controversial statements (Keiji Inafune's comments about the Japanese games industry being finished), or the silly event slogans throughout the years (“Game, it's so energetic!”), the one that still sticks out to me is an unofficial one that was repeatedly stated throughout the 2008 edition, upon the wake of the (temporary) demise of E3: that TGS was “the biggest games trade show in the world”.
At that time, TGS was drunk on its own s... -

Panzer Dragoon Orta Review - Microsoft Xbox
Passion. Both inside the game and within the walls of Smilebit, passion dominates and decrees. In their three (to date) Xbox releases, an energy and fidelity radiates from the code, glisters on the screen and makes the fingers twitch. Passion.
