Have had this for two days and I haven't got round to posting cos I'm too busy playing Love it, and I haven't even tried Live yet. I think one of my favourite things about both this, and the original (and Jedi Knight thinking back through my FPS collection) is the great sense of scale in the environments. It has both the usual corridor-shooter sections, but then it opens out to a great plain or a huge chamber storeys high... I can't recall just standing there looking up in awe at the environment once in Doom 3, but this has moments like that practically every level It helps that the game going on in those environments is hugely fun too of course!

Loving it..... as some peeps know I was a halo addict, 2 years in rehab and I finally kicked it and now this...

Duel wielding is done cleverly just the right level of annoyance to stop it from dominating all and not being able to mix certain types of weapons is fair! Graphics look good (as you'd expect), gameplays is much darker (in terms of story so far for me). I love fighting in and out of buildings and the movable objects are class. Very impressed with the Elites who jump up onto the scenery (like crates) to get a better shot at me. Hi-jacking is class as is the improved vehicle handling model; with powerslides, boosts and avoidance manouvers.

I stupily started on Normal (was too excited about playing and hammered it through), which is a shame but I'll probably switch it onto Legendary (when I have completed Halflife 2) for the second run through and skip heroic.

The popping up graphics trouble me a little and I fell off the moving stairways in level 2 and got totally disorientated, but other than that I am blown away and utterly impressed! It's hard for a sequel to be as ground breaking as a new original title. But as sequels go for me Halo 2 is right up there!!!! (and all I wanted).

Will be on Live at the w/e hopefully, enjoying single player too much to bother sorting it at the moment.

Yeah, I'm finding Heroic pretty hard too. My marines are lasting 2 mins with me.

Certain parts of Heroic do make you fight for every inch of ground, that's what I love about it My marines seem to be lasting longer than your's g-funk, I hate seeing them die, I do my best to look after em'

Possibly contentious question, now I see it's been released. For those able to compare, is the final version considerably better than the leaked French, as claimed by that person? Or was he talking arse, as suspected?

Utterly, utterly superb this is.

As soon as those familiar choir chords kicked on the title screen, a chesire cat couldn't have smiled wider.

Playing on Heroic at the moment and like taurus says, it really makes you work hard. Fantastic stuff.

Like the new little features in-game, which tell you how your friends are doing etc.

It seems exactly the same to me. Still had textures that pop in, and still has stutter on the cut scenes.

Hmm, wonder if this is a PAL issue. I see no pop in textures or stutter on mine.

I think the official version is better. In the French version I attacked the Scarab I ran down the steps after needling the **** out of everyone else. I whipped out my Rocket launcher and ran in "Take that you mother ****ers" *BOOM*. Direct hit on an elite!! He simply turns around and charges at me with an energy sword. I started lobbing grenades left and right whilst running away as fast as possible whimpering to myself "****, **** ****". And he just keeps on coming at me. I can't stop the mother ****er. I thought **** it. Ran in smacked him in the face and he crumpled like a piece of paper.

The bastard took a rocket to the face, a direct hit with a plasma whilst running through a mine field of frags and goes down from a damn punch in the eye.

Equally I swear the explosions are better and there are some things which were omitted from the French leak like the introductory video among other things...
