Finding this quite frustrating - probably needs more time and I think I still haven't fully shaken off my disappointment with 2 - The cut scenes so far have been to die for however.

And the "first" intro - I couldn't believe it when I saw Raiden sitting there - not a-****ing-gain i thought - How I laughed 8)

      Nice one Kojima !

I'll get my MGS3 next week from Play.com (couple of days more waiting because of 20?? Hell yeah!). Can't wait...

Played this game for about 4 hours, impressions so far:

Cut scenes are amazing even if they are maybe just a tad long.

Gameplay wise the only thing thats annoying me is the camera, a look around overhead view would have been nice with the radar missing because its almost impossible to correctly do short running bursts without stopping and pressing R1, looking around (This is when they see you) and getting into a decent possition. Also an outside view while in the grass would be nice, unless there is a button I don't know about.

Story wise its the best game I have played in a very long time, very compelling. Especially since I am trying to piece everything together from the other games.

Worst camera ever, after playing Splinter Cell i am finding it near on impossible to sneak about. Because the camera is above you, you cannot see any enemy because they're off screen, i kept having to go into first person mode, not impressed. I did save Sokolovatovakov or whatever but then i gave up, MGS for me has dated big time.

Roll on Spinter cell chaos theory.

I have just played through the full intro and first mission for Solokov!! I think this is amazing. Gives you a fantastic introduction to all the key game mecahanicsand looks the puppies nuts!! The story so far has been first class and I think will be the best in theseries. I spent a while just getting use to the CQC in the first jungle and it really paid off.

It plays different from previous Metal Gears and Splinter but I really like it!! Requires careful planning of every move. And taking down guards in silence feels very rewarding!! A fantastic start and I am just really looking forward to playing every moment!!

Finally got round to getting this (US version) and after the first mission it is rather good on the whole. I'm a huge admirer of MGS1 but not so much 2 - it was good and bad at the same time.

In SE I do find the camera problems mentioned by others kind of hinders the whole stealth thing - especially when crawling in grass and holes in walls.

The cutscene work is pretty amazing but I do have to put the pad down to keep me from skipping them... some are very long. So far, most of the action has been in the cutscenes themselves. I'm almost playing a backseat role at the minute although I'm reliably informed that the games gets better the further you progress.

Still need to sharpen my stealth skills too since I'm either being spotted and having to run/go shotty crazy. My CQCing is poor and I keep swiping at air! My main tactic so far has been to tranq, shake down for items and then slash them so they don't get up. Or the shotty

With this and GT4 on my playlist, the PS2 still has plenty to offer.

In the Ape Escape themed mini game, when you get the briefing right at the beginning from Roy Campbell does he refer to the protagonist from Ape Escape 2 as Hikaru or Jimmy?

My limited stealth skills from No 2 are slowly returning. I managed to get all the way across one section before alterting any guards yesterday. At which point it turned into another bloodbath

It might be just me but the controls do feel a bit awkward (not that they're really that different from any of the others, its just I've been spoilt by other games).

Storywise its great and I'm really enjoying it and I do kind of feel sorry for both Snake and The Boss.

I still say The Cobras are a greatly designed bunch (just like Dead Cell and Foxhound before them), and although I've only just defeated The Pain I can't wait to come up against the others.

Fantastic. The MGS team never skip a detail.

                        Yeah - I noticed mention of "Sam & Gabe" - Messrs. Fisher & Logan I presume ??

                        Re : The Controls

I found it quite telling that "stalk" is on the d-pad rather than requiring deft use of the analogue sticks - IMO the dual-shock sticks have never cut it for precision analogue use anyway.

I picked up the Chaos Theory demo at the same time as this and I think playing it first may have been a mistake.

Going to have a good go at this this afternoon (as long as sun pollution doesn't ruin it) - hopefully I'll find it more entertaining.

I`m loving this even if it does take time to get used to the camera angle.
btw I`ve downloaded the extra camo online but there is another function for key discs, cant seem to find any info on the net or mgs site. Any ideas?

Unless i misread a post on gamefaqs the other day...

2 of the 3 JPN CD's (Snake Eater First Bite/ Snake Eater single MAXI/ MGS3 OST) will give you the download camo. The odd CD is incompatible.

Christs Chin ! How stupidly difficult in The End ??!!

I've just spent over two hours trying to beat him, only to have the wheezy old fart creep up on me and stick a bullet in the back of my head

Two hours right down the plughole...

                                ...its still great fun though
