How many people bitched on about, say, Psyvariar being too short or too easy, because they'd stuck the continues up to 9 and fudged their way through without really getting it? That's why I've not been topping up my health here - don't want to do a similar thing.
DMC3 for me is nothing to do with progression, the story, or anything else like that - it's purely about messing about with the system and finding out how deep it goes. Like I keep saying, just when you think you've got it - a whole new depth appears. The first playthrough is absolutely nothing - you're just getting the stages, styles levels and harder modes up, so use the items by all means. Once you've got all the stages the game changes into a sandbox game where you kit yourself out, pick your style - select a war and get stuck into it! This is where your skill increases - it's much easier to break the system up into single elements and learn them in turn (you wont believe how many weeks I spent in Mission 1 alone!). Pretty soon you'll look at the standard difficulty as some sort of joke and require enemies that can handle more damage (that's all that Hard Mode is).

I've been playing Hard Mode Mission 4 (walk back to the Nightclub) and Mission 16 (Respawning Hell Sloths) for 2 weeks now refining my Swordmaster technique. It's all about picking a single element and mastering it - like that big girl Beowulf, I buss 1 month worth of Royal Guard training there!

      Very true... (all of you)

I'm now playing this to improve the way I play. Think of my progress as about 2 months behind everyone else, and you get the idea. It's buckets of fun now though that the challenge is to learn the BEST way to play in the style I chose, not just learning how to play (well...survive). I love it tbh I'm getting kicked around occasionally but it's so rewarding when it means I get through a level cleanly and then take down a boss in the most stylish way I can find

It's impossible to work out but I bet I'm not even 5% through this game in terms of what is possible... I bet even you experts aren't even close to the end of how far you can push the game

Aye, mission 4 hard been getting abused, that night club is perfect for sorting stuff out, especially the swordmaster cancel and enemy step stuff

Always nice just to finish off the session by blowing gigapedes head open in around 30 seconds, hehehe.

The game developes into a total playground as Saur says, select your **** and tear up the screen!! Eventually items dont come into the equation... you wont need them 8) but take as much time as is needed to get it all sorted, its by no means a quick task to get to this level but it is something any player can do if they willing to give it time and raise there game.

Mission 1 aint named the lab for nothing!!

I've got infinite Air Cerberus now baby! I'm using J-cancels and enemy steps within ground combos like in that sick combo vid - gotten used to switching weapons mid enemy step now, like stepped Revolvers into O button slashes of the other weapon, back into step cancelling with the first - it's all SO grimy! XD

That nightclub is TOO sick! Cos I'm step cancelling off everything now I've found you can combo straight into swinging on the pole - Dante is all over the place now, even grabbing the pole off the rebound jump from a cancelled Free Ride back into Rapid Killer Bee! He's monstrous!

I've been practising with Quicksilver and Enemy Step cancelled air Revolvers. Saur, try this:

Uppercut (Beowulf) or Hightime (Rebellion), activate Quicksilver, switch to Cerberus and just repeately do Enemy Step cancelled air revolvers AROUND the enemy. You can go forever with Super Dante!

Ah, but I know from past experience that if I do that - and this is a totally personal thing - I won't learn this stuff as thoroughly as I will if I spend the time with it from the start. Like, how some people'll use continues in other games just to get later levels up on the select screen as soon as they can, then get down to focusing on them once they've done that - that's not for me, my brain won't let me do that. I need to struggle through, force myself to play properly from day one, otherwise I won't appreciate it later on.

                Horses for courses, really.

Yeah it's not hard at all. Just need to make sure you get enough parries in to build up your DT and Release and use them at the right time before Vergil goes berserk. But the short jump Killer Bees have to be spot on or he'll break your attack.

Agh, I came so close to finishing off DMD Cerberus with my level 1 royal guard last night.. I had two of his heads off, then he killed me with those body slams which I still haven't been able to block. I used my rebirth (as to be honest it's a pain having to say 'no' all the time) and came back at full strength with him on the ropes. He still killed me :-(

What you mean Rebirth?? Vitality stars?? On all modes, Cerberus is a pain the first time you encounter him. For me on DMD Swordmaster worked out the best for dealing with him. The problem with him on DMD is the shortended delay between signposting an attack and pulling it off... makes his slams that little bit harder to judge. Guess that the problem with all bosses on DMD, got a whole new set of timings to learn.

I find Trickster really effective against Cerberus on DMD. Use a lot of air dashes to back away from his attacks and then get back in with air trick followed by Aerial Cross.

A&R totally owned on DMD! Lots of parries and SSS style points! Killed in 100 seconds!

Has anybody got this video archived? The link has expired, I got past Cerberus and Gigapede last night (taking Royal Guard to level 2 in the process) and i'm now getting my ass kicked on mission 5.

So far I've been doing nothing but attempting to parry/release.. not with any great success but in the process they are damaging each other, so I guess with enough patience and the correct timing you could get them down to 1 without attacking at all?

Cheers venom, can I ask a question too - if a release is when Dante stands on the spot and thrusts his arm out, is a just release the one where he goes into a blurry dash and shoots through the enemy? If so then I'm timing it better than I thought cos I've had a few of those.
