Finally got this today. The background art is truly beautiful, some of the nicest 2D I've seen. Not so sure on the characters, they animate smoothly but have none of the charm of the 2D sprites from the SNES Goemons. Fantastic music too, as others have said.

But a lot of text, a LOT of text. And not easy to understand either, especially Ebisumaru with his country bumpkin speak. Even the fully voiced opening was difficult to understand with the heavy accents and non standard pronunciations.

        Stuck!

I'm at the bit where there is a block to stand on and a large boulder blocking the way. I get a question prompt that suggests I have to do some touching but I just can't figure it out. There's also a statue that releases a cute elephant. Don't know what that's about either.

          Tut tut...

Use Sasuke's bombs to blow up the block and the boulder will roll out of the way. The question mark just gives you a clue on what to do, it isn't necessarily touch screen related. There are many elephant statues to collect throughout the game...I don't know what they do either

I seem to have gotten stuck very early on! I'm at the tengu village and can't progress any further. Various exits/buildings are barred to me as they are tengu kyoudan no shibu (Tengu cult offices). I'm being asked for tengu no tsubo (Tengu's vase), but I can't seem to find anything like that.

I'm probably just missing something really obvious...

Keep going up through the village you will eventually come to a house where there is a guy who will let you play the potters wheel minigame. When you are sucessful you will get the vase.

Thanks. I got to the pottery place and beyond, and now have the DS Impact Controller!

The graphics and music in this game are just fantastic. Such a shame there's no US version lined up, it's easily one of the best DS games to date.

Kind of off-topic but what the hell. I've been playing a lot of Goemon lately - Goemon 1+2 on GBA is great and I've been thinking of getting Mystical Ninja 2 for the N64. Anyhow, I picked up Mystical Ninja (1998 ) for the GameBoy today.

                      What a pile of crud!

Hehe you were unfortunate to pick the only crap gb goemon game there is. I be its the one with the pirates (^_^)

Luckily the other 4 gb goemon games are ace.

I thought it would be a 2D sidescroller but its like a really really poor Zelda/Ys clone that plays like absolute ****. It didn't cost me anything though so it can stay in the collection.

I'm stuck again! I got past the rolling fat Ebisumaru bit but can't get into the village beyond that. The two guards at the door say they are preparing for something (tbh I didn't fully understand what they were saying).

What do I need to get past them?

                            Thanks!

You need to speak to Yae...Go to the Area with the giant tengu gate and cannons are shooting at you. At the bottom of the screen there are some broken logs that let you get around to the side of the gate. Yae should be there there. After you have spoke to her go back and get Ebisumaru, who should now be cured.

The ninja guards should then have moved out of the way.

                              Spoiler for the next section...

After you have received Ebisumaru's Ballerina costume from the Ninja village you have to go back to where you met Yae, from there climb onto the higher section vai the stone blocks and use Ebisumaru in his Ballerina costume to dance on the circular stone tablet on the ground, you should then sink through the floor and on to the next section.
