Yup. I've had the update - it came mid-game, and booted me out...

And regarding doors, no, your can't. NPCs open doors. If it's shut, you have to wait or go another way.

most doors that can open open when you walk right upto them

Im enjoying it so far, about 2-3 hours in, but it does feel rough round the edges and as mentioned before far less precise than the PC version notably the auto-aim feature. I often pick up on the little things, and theres a few times Ive felt a little cheated like when I blew up a helecoptor expecting its shell to come crashing to the ground, parts flying off everywhere but it didnt, it just vapourised. You should be able to blow up laptops after hitting it with a few rounds but nope, little things but examples of how not to immerse the player into a believeable environment.

Worst thing, the AI, its really very shoddy, bugged also, several times Ive watched as soldiers run against a wall, other times I shoot someone in the back and he runs forward looking for me, instead of turning round to face me which would be logical if you was shot in the back. Im sure I heard a few times where two people have been shouting in battle, but theres only actually one person, but that could be just my imagination.

On the plus side it looked alright, and I like the clear objectives, theres no wandering off and getting lost like there was in the PC version, forgetting what your aim is. Getting people with tree traps was fun for a while, but to this point Ive found stealth to be a minor requirement and armed with 2 semis its far quicker and easier to run in guns blazing, so no time to mess about setting traps and throwing rocks. The swearing is pointless too, not that it bothers me, just dont see the need for it. Ill push on as its not too taxing so far, and I want to see what happens next, but its been a lukewarm start.

I wasnt that impressed to start with, but it gets alot better later on.

I tend to go with the rambo approach as i prefer all out action. I guess it would be fun once completed to go through the game with a more stealth approach if possible.

Graphics are superb athough the framrate does crawl at times, but I can fogive it for this as its pretty amazing this is running on a ?100 piece of hardware anyway.

More mediocre mainstream product from Ubisoft. They seem to be turning into EA more and more. I found Splinter Cell: CT a very mediocre single-player experience. If you compare it directly with the rollercoaster ride that is MGS: Snake Eater, you can see how plodding and flat it really is.

Instincts has no real connection between the player and the NPC's or the plot. It lacks surprise and drama and the AI and physics just undermine it even further. The physics are so poorly implemented. You can super punch a fourty gallon drum and it stays firmly rooted to the spot. But kick it and it flys away like paper. Or shoot an NPC and watch him fall on his back and then miraculously bounce five feet in the air. Especially the gunners on jetboats. They just jump out of the boat like a freshly caught fish.

Yeh but come on... The SP is just a blast-fest, switch your brain off and go to town.

Loving the multiplayer though. Have played on some pretty decent user-made maps already and I can see me delving into the Map Editor myself and creating a few more different types of levels.

I agree with you that its rough round the edges, I also think the AI and physics are poor in places but all things considered it still delivers and online is great, with Predator mode the main highlight.

the final game is actually not that bad and broken as the recent demo. i'm still at it and most of the time enjoing the game - at least while going straight for it and with guns blazing. stealth is pretty useless. bad scripting and storytelling. AI still not present. autoaim is a pain. how could EDGE give this game 8/10? i don't get it!

I'm not enjoying the game at all, just doesn't feel right in any regard. Even the Live side of things is wooly and dull.

No more random buying of games for me this generation, I've had enough of being burnt. Though...I'm very tempted to trade in everything of a DS

it seems like most of you also go balls out and blast the **** out of things, it's weird because the original far cry on the PC was more stealthy, if uou tried to rambo it you'd end up dead...

got my feral sense, the game is hotting up now im glad the repeated "jump in vehicle X and go down a trail" lark has ended it was getting tedious.

Pete, you seem to have too much money to "burn" on games

i could tell from the demo that this game was only a HD candidate and cancelled my order just in time to save my money for Brothers in Amrs: Earned in Blood. i guess with a new solid co-op mode, improved AI and mission design this game could make it into my Xbox FPS collection. also, there's Operation Flashpoint and Half-Life 2 waiting...

It's a very good game (from what I thought) that's riddled with a poor, frustrating and highly irritable end.

                        And what's with

rushed, non-descript end sequences and first-person shooters these days? Half-Life 2, Halo 2 and Instincts all feature relatively weak conclusions.

It's as though it's mandatory in modern first-person design to end unsatisfactorily.

hmm, i really don't know what's outstanding or even good about this game - besides its nice looks. the longer i play the more tiresome the gameplay gets. i think i'm halfway through the mines and it's just running and gunning for the next checkpoint. no real challenge (puzzles, enemies, obstacles) to overcome. also, and in stark contrast to the PC version of Far Cry, the physics and lighting of Instincts seems very inconsistent and poorly implemented. it's astounding to notice that games like Perfect Dark still have a more solid world physic than most recent FPS.

Yeah maybe...I don't earn much money, I just sell games on when I'm done with them to keep the costs down.

I just wish some of the negative comments about the game were posted in time to stop me buying it! Unfortunately I lost the Game receipt too so I can't swap it for something else. Darnit.

if you bought it from game just go back and say you misplaced the reciept, dont want a refund but would like to just change it for somin else. Providing its still minty condition and you are polite they should let you swap it

Im tired of this now also, its just really weak compared to the PC version and other FPS titles already available on the Xbox. The AI is what my biggest problem with it is, its so shoddy and inexcuseable in my view.

Other little things bug me, for example if a vehicle isnt damaged why cant you flip it over and use it, like those little buggies for example. I lose the vehicle cos I hit something on the road, and have to carry on walking on foot to get to the next checkpoint, which is really all the game is to me now a checkpoint with occasional fighting in between when Im unable to drive through unscathed.

                                Average for me Im afraid.
