Okay, new voice-over! Dormin's voice now has a female echo. Makes no odds to me, but some posts on other forums had marked it an issue.

Maybe I'm a masochist, but I actually loved traversing the landscape and often went off on tangents to explore. The world had a really unique atmosphere that I'd never experienced before in a game and I loved drinking it in, especially when the camera shifted into just the right position that you could ride Agro along with a suitably epic backdrop. Riding him around was also one of the most entertaining parts.
Took me about 9-10 hours to finish the game the first time, I think. Since then I've tried a few of them in time attack mode but that's it.
As for Dormin's voice, it's always had a female echo and even the Wikipedia entry mentions that. I don't know if they've made it more noticeable for the PAL version but I definitely remember it from the US one.

Considering I'm really ill with a virus resulting in three days off work I've managed to play this game up to the second Collisi but had to stop playing.
Tonight before bed rather than taxing my brain I decided to gallop around the world on Agro. It's such a brillant feeling of riding a Horse and the world is so huge and stunning I can't help but look at it all
So far I ride to location I want to, pull Agro to a stop, pat him, take in the view and then jump back on and ride to whereever I want to. It's such a liberating and beautiful sense of adventure and isolation in this game I dont believe I've played a game like it
Possibly, just possibly, the finest game experiance I've ever played. Just magical

I found the game looked good on my projector, none of this pixellation of text that got mentioned (progressive RGB), and being 100" made it very cinematic. A term that gets chucked about sometimes, but few games live up to it.
Maybe thats why i enjoyed the wandering between colossi? Not that i explored every nook, probably took 14-16 hours?, but it was like playing in a fantasy Sergio Leone film - long sweeping landscapes to set the mood before the action. I'll admit to a moistening of the eyes at a certain sad event, and at the end felt that they'd finally found that emotion engine chip that got talked about.
All this talk has made me want to whip it out again!

Picked up a couple of copies of the PAL version today (one to play, one sealed), and those of you who have mentioned the boxart/packaging being stunning are right in every respect. It's beautifully designed, from the artcards to the back of the slipdisc cover - gorgeous.
Looking forward to replaying through the game again on Normal and Hard.

I just got off once or twice... or maybe a little more to take a look around.
Good points about the landscape - reminds me of the criticisms that Edge held for Gun when they reviewed it... a game set in the Wild West but without any sense of true freedom or exploration. SotC in comparison reminds me in some ways of a game set on the outback where you're on your own to survive - progression may be linear and the landscape may be dead, but the sense of being on the frontier out on your own is brilliantly conveyed. Along with the scale, it's this distance that also contributes to the isolation in a way that separates it from the how ICO handled loneliness.Last edited by Concept; 17-02-2006, 11:29.

Nice to see more folks discovering (and rediscovering) this game. I picked up the Japanese version last year, and whilst it wasn't quite the ephiphany that many described, it was still a fantastic and engrossing game. Playing it reminded me of some of my favourite fantasy films - there was some of Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Jason and the Argonauts and even a kaiju film or two. There were times when I felt like I was actually there - not just watching the proceedings on my tv, but actually riding alongside the great beasts or traversing the vast landscapes. I love when games draw you into their world like that.
Now that I think about it, I may well have got my ephiphany after all.Great game.
And now I've got the PAL version (and Ico too - couldn't miss it this time 'round) and I'm looking forward to going back to that vast world again - this time I'll understand what's being said. Nice to see that Wikipedia entry lists the beasts' names. Always thought they deserved some title or other. 'Colossus number 6' doesn't quite work for me...
