SotC masters, I need your help!

In one of my previous posts I said I was having trouble with colossus number 4 on hard TA and I still am!!

I`ve now beaten all of the colossi in hard TA (with ease) except number 4, I even managed to do number 16 with 7 minutes to spare but the lowly knight is still giving me grief!

I wish he`d stop flinging me about so I could attack more frequently but he goes mental!

The trick with those two is not to do what first comes to mind: roll. They're attracted by the sudden movement. Moving to higher vantage positions as soon as you're confronting to them by rolling along the floor means they run at you straight away.

You mean on Hard when he stomps his feet into the ground, or when he shakes his head left or right?

There are a few colossi where the timing can be difficult on Hard in this area (the heads of 15 and 16 for example)... you should try attacking and then retreat off the sensitive area (usually the head) where it shakes as much, and return. That usually saves some time and grip power.

Have you explored his reactions when you stab him in non-tattooed areas?

I must admit I was a little disappointed to see that type used twice - seemed a little cheap.

Fun jumping from pillar to post though and pure comedy when I made it ram the final section while I was standing on it. Ended up underneath a bunch of rubble with the Colossi >_<

            I really like

colossi 15. The design of the colossi's armour is excellent in terms of its shape (especially if you compare the final design to the concept art) as is the weight of its movement. Plus, in what other game do you get to cross an entire town from above, and watch it get completely obliterated bit by bit thanks to a ravenous, blood thirsty beast scowering below your feet?

I agree on Colossi 11 though. For me, it's the weakest enemy in the game.

              Eek. I meant Colossi 14.

                He doesn't

destroy an entire town though does he?! Just spanks a couple of bridges,

or am I missing out on something? Oh 14...

                My favourite has to be

the Flying Sand Worm. I love everything about that battle. Watching it burst up out of the dunes, the sound it makes when you burst it floatation sacks, charging along next to its fins on 'Pedro'.

                Gorgeous!

Yeah, I enjoyed that one too. I had a feeling you were supposed to just peg it, so I didn't even let him get close. Still quite intimidating though, the way he prowls around.

I also enjoyed 11, but that was more because I was scratching my head for so long, before having an amazing "Eureka!" moment over what to do.

                    Cheers Concept.

It is where he shakes his head like mad I lose the most time, I`ll try getting off and on again to see if that helps.

Just did it in 5:03........ gutted!

My faves have to be one, three, five, six, seven, ten, twelve, thirteen, fifteen, sixteen.

Okay, out of those, if I had to narrow it down...

three and five would stick out... they were just genuine wow moments for me in terms of the scale, artistry (particular the armour for three, who looks really sad hunched over), atmosphere of the locations and the technology involved too (for three, it's the height and being able to see the entire landscape while being thrown about, for five it's the speed of the flying and the fact you can see the entire sunken city while you're being flung about).

Thirteen is great though for sheer wow factor in terms of the colossi's overall size and the fact you're flying all over the Southern Coastline.

When Wanda calls Agro it always sounds like 'Pablo' to me.

Well, to amend another thing [spoiler]towards what defines my favourite colossi in the game, the journey to them and the location of the battle has some bearing in it too. For example, the path to eight and twelve are both fantastically atmospheric (I've always been a sucker for properly constructed forests, which seems to be more rare than you'd think in videogaming. Only Snake Eater and Colossus to me have ever got the atmosphere of being in a dense forest spot on).[/spoilers]

The puzzle for eleven is satisfying when it was worked out, but I found the actual battle to be fairly simple compared to some of the others, and I didn't like the location too much in terms of its atmosphere... a bit too barren.

Concept, are you just spoilering all your posts now?

I took so long with number 11 that I ended up messing around with all sorts of tactics. I even ended up in the open with him, near where you come in. Watching him prowling around by the water while I swam about, then seeing him charge from a distance was really quite frightening.

For me the journey to number 11 was amazing

looking down towards the temple, then finding that zigzag pathway to the pool. Swimming across and seeing the path in the background. Wicked stuff. Also my first sight of fire which had me musing on who had lit it and keep it burning.

edit - oops I'm talking about a different one here, number 12 maybe? spag there were burning altars back at colossus number 8... during the trip down into the 'pail'.

You are not alone DSD, with hindsight some of the stuff I was doing on that colossus was laughable! I actually dangled myself in front of his eyes thinking I could get him to turn in the direction of wherever I was dangling

Its all so confusing - why didn't they give them names o_O

Time Attack is even more so as you can't tell which one you are about to challenge until you see it.

That could have been better handled in my opinion.

Of course I like not having ROCKOLOSSI flash up on the screen before a battle, it would spoil the games vib, infact the way the health and grip meters vanish is a great touch!

Maybe if the Statues looked more like the foes it would help..?

Colossus number 4 has been defeated (with 3 secs to go, phew!), YIPPEE!! I don`t knwo why he was giving me so much trouble but there you go, I don`t have to try ever again!

So that`s it then, nowt left to do on SotC now other than maybe try and get into the secret garden.

The rewards you get on hard TA are loads better than on normal, especially the Ico related item you get after you kill the last colossus which is awsome.

                                Also
Agro looks pretty cool and as for the "

                                Cloak of Desperation

                                ", it`s only a f**king

                                parachute

                                !! You can do

base jumping with it, it`s the dogs!!

I would definately agree with that, I`d love to put a name to them rather than a number. Aparently they do have names and they are here >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_of_the_colossus.

There are spoilers there so becarful anyone who hasn`t finished the game yet.

ROCKOLOSSI or similar would be a bit **** in a Zelda like kinda way (although I like it in those games) but I`m sure Dormin could`ve introduced them rather than saying "Your next foe is........" and then a load of bollocks!
