And the 6 year wait only made the bitter pill harder to swallow .

As soon as you put the CAM spy down turn right and follow the wall to your right, it will force you to turn left then follow it to the end and turn left again. Half way down this corridor you will be able to turn left across a bridge and u will see a computer screen, head in front of that and u will complete the level and get ready for the boss!

Ive not noticed any lag on mine and im playin at pal 60, but im using mine throught surround sound via the optical output on the back of the video cable, if that could make any difference.
      Thanks for the advice mate!

I managed to do that level after reading that. I somehow managed to go completely off track with the cam and got lost!

I wonder if perhspa its me just being overly critical about the sound issue, The early cusscenes are perfect. as is all the other sound, perhaps its just me imagining things!?!

Now I've had longer to reflect on the game, I have to agree ultimately this game is a huge dissapointment, if not completely bad. I tried Perfect Agent (I've completed the game on Secret Agent) on the nightclub level a few nights ago and I just couldn't be bothered with it. On this setting the bad AI is even more apparent and just very frustrating.

What a crazy mess of a game

This has many serious faults that have been listed many times above, but then it has some things completely right. Every now and then among the plastic mess there is a truely fantastic texture. The online play is probably the best since Halo 2 and the co-op is the best I've played.

There is a good game in there somewhere, I can't wait to see what a genuinely talented developer can do.

well at first i was very underwhelmed but playing co-op with my mate with the mic is so much fun even laughing at silly glitched men was brilliant fun. Um to about mission 6 i think and the missions do get a lot better so anyone who is playing agent and turned off after mission 2 bear with it!

Great but unfinished, really... which is where it falls apart. There's much that is good, and potentially good, about this title, which is why I can play it and still enjoy it... but the entire experience really was looking around, feeling like I was playing an unfinished game, noticing and pointing out the parts that just needed much more time.

I reckon it would have been better to delay this and release it sometime this year, letting the game get finished. That said, remember the uproar when the games non-appearence at many trade shows implied it might not make launch? MS couldn't win, I reckon.

I am enjoying this, but its not worth the price tag, its average at best for a launch title.

The bad...the storyline is poor, the characters cheesy, almost comedy...like someone else said, thunderbirds springs to mind. I just dont know who Rare's target audience, it seems like a missmash to me.

Soundwise, sound effects are great, there is some good use of 5.1, guns are of particular note. Music..I kind of liked the title track and there is some not too bad short pieces when the action hots up, but some of the tracks remind me of Team Ninja's DOA games....ie not good, well, not to my taste anyway.

Graphics on a whole are very good, the enemies clad in armour look great, and the way you blast their armour away is a nice touch as is the use of sheilds, something that I feel could have been expanded on. Other areas in the graphics department look rushed or have odd textures that don't look right.

Anyway, I'm not writing a review, but I thought it was average for a FPS but it does show the XBOX360 has great potential as a platform for great games in this genra....roll on HALO!

I still haven't played this as my 'limited edition' copy of the game is sealed since the 2nd December last year because I had the feeling that I should save the best till last as I enjoyed the original Perfect Dark on the N64 very much. The reason why I this is unplayed is because I simply read average at best comments surrounding this game and I - like DMC2 before hand - feel I should avoid this completely and remember the good stuff from the original.

As my copy is sealed, should I take it back for the whooping ?50 I paid for another day (game/DVD) or simply play it to see what it is like?

Nah play it mate. It's not a bad game at all, I enjoyed it muchly. It's just that the whole experience feels very undeveloped and unfinished.

Feels like MS rang Rare one days and said "Okay I know we gave you 12 months to finish this game, but now it's 6 months instead" and Rare spent the remaining time ****ting themselves and trying to piece it all together into a game. What's there is good, it just feels like Rare almost wanted to spend more time on it.

It's still a game I return to, really. It does take a few stages to 'click' though.

Been playing this since Friday and I am really surprised by the negative comments. However reading the thread, it starts of really positive then kind of tails off so maybe I am still in that 'happy, clappy' honeymoon period.

What I've played so far I've really enjoyed. First mission I found dull and Mission 1 was slightly restrictive to be fun (which reminds me of both Halo games as they had craptacular first levels) but from there I've found them really engrossing with a mix of stealth secions and out and out blasting. Weapons feel nice to use (although melee seems 'off') and the Cover mechanic is a stroke of genius (popping out from cover and scoring a headshot all in the space of half a second is a great feeling).

Heck, I even like the music and cutscenes, and whilst yes they are cheesy, I think I appreciate what thy were going for (I thought Perfect Dark was meant to be James Bond with Bond and 007 is always a cheesefest anyway).

Only thing I am slightly disappointed with is co-op. It's fun but not as spectacular as I was hoping, mostly because the style of FPS (with a heavy emphasis on stealth) doesn't seem to work as well with 2 people. That being said the Rooftops Escape mission is great 2up.

To be honest I'm really beginning to change my opinion on this game. I really thought that I had found some stuff that was fun but the more I play it the more I realise it actually is a big steaming pile of poo.

The single player is big glichy mess with some of the ugliest models and effects I've seen. I can forgive the odd glitch if the game has been rushed, but all the time in the world couldn't have made this attractive.

I had thought that the multiplayer saved the day and the games I've played are largely lag free and the weapons fairly satisfying. Sadly the level design is pretty appalling with most of the darkops lvls generally revolving around a single corridor choke point with everyone firing down as much ordinance as they can with no tactical use at all. The x-y sensitivity is insanely slow, I might be missing something but I have everything on max and the crosshair still moves so slow that it can easily be out run and I'm constantly fighting against the system as apposed to getting absorbed in the game. Absurd considering Q4 and Call of Duty 2 managed to get it right. Once again this means that online matches generally involve lots of ridiculous circle strafing.

This game has some good ideas, the secondry fire functions are intresting and the moves such as rolling and stealing weapons should be in all FPS's. The co-op is also fun I guess a bad game shared is a game half as bad, but can't recommend paying ?40-50 for the experience.

Online is where this game is at - single player for me seems to lack the charm and overall fun factor of the original (I loved hurling throwing knives at badguys and watching them stick to walls or chairs). Still its not bad considering and it does pick up from around mission 7/8

On the "glitchy" side of things, not seen anything too severe - unless of course you count corpses that leap around as if they're dancing o_o

It's the complete lack of v-syncing, I don't expect there to be constant tearing on any modern console game. I actually quite enjoy the rag dol physics, I don't know how they expected anyone not to notice how broken it is but it is entertaining.

The AI when you are trying to be stealthy is also certainly interesting as is the lack of intelligence in the NPCs.

I've only played the later levels in co-op and still found myself depending on the chevrons to get around as the design was a mess. Playing solo I've just finished the china mission which although sensibly laid out has some of the worst looking landscape and water I've ever seen. Now I'm the lab and I just find it far too uninspiring to continue and the fact it looks like it was hollowed out from someones brain freaks me out.

Mines gone back to the shop today. Enjoy the multiplayer but its not enough of a complete package to make it become 'a keeper'. Also I hate the menus and the whole artstyle - wet clay puppets mincing around.

Anyone who isn't enjoying it should just play it on perfect agent, where it plays like a stealth game is meant to be played.

                                Stealthily!

I do think that the stupidly little amount of autoaim coupled with the twitchy aiming does make trying to hit anything moving very hard, a problem that the n64 one didn't have.
