To anyone that has not seen any footage of this wicked game or the anime, then Shame on you....

      Ok, that game looks hard...

Is this stage typical of the difficulty, or one of the harder stages? I'm getting this, but am not brilliant at driving games in general, so won't get it if it's out of my reach in terms of skill...

I've not seen the vid but from your reaction I'm presuming it was Akina (the one with the 5 consecutive hairpins).

Akina is probably the most demanding of the Initial D courses. The other 3 ver. 1 courses (Myogi, Usui and Happoghara) are much more straightforward. Happoghara actually looks quite difficult if you simply look at the overhead map, but when you play it it is pretty straightforward.

But, even Akina is quite managable once you become au fait with the drift techniques and Akina is the 3rd course (at least in Arcade Stage) so you will get plenty of practice on the earlier courses first.

        Don't fret

Ok, I'll take that under advisement....
Looks a lot harder than RRV, but I clocked that on the hardest settings and beat all the supercars, so I should be ok.

Initial D looks very good indeed. Looks a lot more reallistic than I expected, especially as it's based on anime.....

I was expecting the game to be cel-shaded tbh. I hope the thing is as arcadey and power slidey as RR5, and not some guff proto-realistic mess like Auto Modellista...

You have nothing to worry about.

It isn't identical to Ridge Racer, but trust me, this game is incredible

I just expected a brighter pallette and a lot more silly and flashy effects, like huge '!!!!!!!!!!' signs and ****, and maybe little character face wincing, in typical anime style

Not complaining, though. It looks really good.

I've been well lazy and not been playing Initial D that much anymore - just watched that video and am now gagging for it again!

                  *runs off to Casino*

Initial D > Ridge Racer series and Sega Rally.

Basically the anime uses a combination of hand drawn visuals and CGI. the battles are mostly done in CGI, which is why the game has a more realistic flavour than say AutoModelista.

Does anyone know where the best place to pick up a Logitech wheel is? I'm doing the review and want to be fully equiped to do the game justice.

                      Amen to that.

I just bought the Logitech wheel today specifically for this game(50 quid from Virgin if any of you are interested), it's the best arcade racer since the original Daytona, I've spent about 300 quid on it after playing it since about February and that's a modest amount of money compared to that of the more dedicated players. It hasn't been called Initial Drugs for nothing it's stupidly adictive, there's none of the played out psuedo-simulation type gameplay that permeates the likes of Gran Turismo et al either and if you're a fan of the anime you get so much more out of it.

Cant help with your question, but when you do review it can you please comment on the differences between driving with the wheel and pad? I am sure you would have anyway, but I am buying the game without the wheel, but if it adds a lot more to the experience I will make the extra investment.

With the Initial D Logitech wheel dont you get an add on that fits to the wheel so you can clamp it between your legs?

It's a common misconception for people to expect the cars in the series to be hand-drawn.

IGN claimed that Auto Modelista was closer to the Initial D anime than this is for that reason which is yet further evidence that anyone who pays for that Insider crap is a complete tool and deserves to die.

By the way, you people who haven't seen the series may want to do so before playing, because it makes the game just that little bit more special.

Definately. I don't know why but my appreciation for the game increased tenfold after watching the anime.

Plus it's a damn fine series in its own right.
