Hehe, I've already played through that level. A lot I had the enemies in the first level sussed and I was ready to move on. There's more enemies in mission two, and more at the same time, so it was a fairly big step up. I handled that ok tbh - lots of room to improve, but certainly not a complete failure. I tried parrying the explosions in the second mission though and I failed miserably

The fight against the Vanguard is great though.

    Him: Swing, swing, slash
    Me: parry, parry, parry

    Him: teleport, swing
    Me: Jump, land, aim+roll, parry

    Him: swing, swing, swing
    Me: parry, parry, Release

Vanguard loses 40% of his energy

BEST GAME EVER!!!! What was the last game that gave YOU the choice of how to play. If you want to attack you choose Gunslinger or Swordmaster. If you want to defend, choose Trickster. If you want to be an arrogant and cocky bastard, you choose Royal Guard. Playing with Royal Guard has completely turned the game upside down now, and I love it

      Well.

All I was expecting is DMC3 with Vergil included so you are provided with two characters to play around with. To my surprise you can select Dante or Vergil from the start with each having their own story so Vergil has his own cinematics that are every bit as good as Dante's adventure.

For those who complained that DMC3 is too hard, even on the auto-easy mode will be rather delighted to find that the game is most definitely easier thanks to the new system of providing the players an option of either selecting the Yellow or Gold orbs at the start of a new game for both Dante and Vergil.

The Yellow orbs are for players who do not have a problem with DMC3 and it's difficulty level whereas those who have a tough time with the game especially the bosses would choose the Gold orbs simply because you are revived on the spot when you have fallen.

The Yellow orbs take you back to the start of the level if you die (or the checkpoint on the missions where you come across a boss) and you can keep everything you have collected or gained during that duration of time.

The Gold orb allows the player to be revived on the spot of where you died to get back on their feet and continue playing the game however, the rank will be dramatically worse if you choose to use this method.

As you can choose both Dante and Vergil from the start, you are treated to experience the same game with both characters but the variation of different styles and weapons do change how both characters can approach the game.

On Dante's story, you come across his brother Vergil three times yet when the scenario is reversed, Vergil battles another boss instead so the situation changes to branch the storyline between the two characters better.

I won't be writing about Dante's side of the adventure simply because I have covered his story and gameplay so many times before so as of today, I shall write about Vergil and his arsenal that is provided for our fun.

My favourite new addition is the 'summon swords' move. My goodness, I nearly fell off my bed when I pulled it off for the first time because this particular function replaces Dante's guns and is a very natural move to use especially in a group of enemies.

You get three weapons: Yamato (long range), Force Edge (the same standard sword Dante uses) and Beowulf (same old weapon, new moves). The summon swords is the new function that is mapped to the L1 button and replaces the guns Dante uses.

Each weapon starts off by using the basic moves such as upper and rapid slash for the Yamato, starfall and rising sun for the Beowulf and the classic high time, stinger and round trip moves for the Force Edge.

As you grasp the red orbs, you can contribute those towards upgrading your moves (some moves are leveled) or purchasing new ones to cause much damage that spreads over a multiple of enemies rather than a single or cluster of them.

I spent one hour replaying The Lab (mission one) over and over again simply because this is the method that makes the game easier, more fun and ultimately betters you as a player instead of thinking you can beat every mission as they come.

As usual, you do not get Devil Trigger until mission seven where it does make the game smoother and more functional for the later stages.

You are also greeted upon a Bloody Palace mode where you simply carry over the character you are using in the game and try to take on the many floors of wave upon wave of enemies that vary from each level. As you climb the palace to the higher levels, the challenge increases and the items are few and far.

Another nice addition is the demo theatre. It is a show-reel that allows the players to watch a specific cinematic within the game (for both Dante and Vergil) or, if you fell like it you can watch them all in one sittings by simply selecting the 'play all' command.

You do however, have to play through the game to add the cinematics to the rooster.

As a small Devil May Cry fan, I can say that for the asking price of ?14.99 (or ?11.99 on various online stores) it is a very good game to get through for those who found DMC3 a bit too tough going and for others who would like to revisit the game in style with both Dante and the new addition of enabling Vergil to be playable with his own set of moves, weapons and story.

Devil May Cry 3 has never been better.

To finish this message: on my second go on Normal mode (as Hard or Dante Must Die isn't available, yet) with Vergil, I had no problems adjusting to the new style of play or the weapons available so those who have played DMC3 will find it rather easy to pick up and play again.

      Thanks again Capcom!

          Afternoon Blair,

The HDTV I'm using is the Panasonic TX32LXD52, which is the last model Panasonic were using before their newer LXD-60 series. It is not as stylist as the newer models but the actual unit does the job just as good as the new HDTVs on the market nowadays.

I am in a tricky situation now!

          Dante or Vergil?!

BOTH!!! At the same time. Hitting everything with D is a bit easier imo after using v though.

Couple that RG release with a DT release and you can kill him instantly on Normal might leave a wee bit of health left on hard and upwards but he is close to death no matter what !!

I have finished the game on Normal with Vergil and am now gonna once again kick off the epic adventure that is getting Dante fully upgraded. Will be doing this along with finished hard mode with Vergil so will be going between the 2 but primarily my time will be with Dante and getting him tricked out again.

Cant describe how much love I have for this game but am sure all you boys feel it too.

Oh, you evil person...well done Gotta try that later!

I was getting so cocky earlier. I was on mission two and just messing around with Royal Guard. I stood in the middle of a group of enemies and just parried everything, throwing taunts in at every opportunity to boost my Style bar

Royal Guard mixed with Beowulf is an evil combination though. I can take down the Vanguard in about 10 seconds now A decent parry and release, then a small combo, and he's down to 25% health

Yup I played it and completed it last year, but had loads left to see and do. I bought this SE to play as Vergil...yet after 20 hours of playing as Dante in two weeks, I have no intention of restarting as Vergil yet. I'm just having too much fun

I'm still playing the Japanese vers of DMC3 after being stuck for an age on Nevan for an age on Normal. I don't even know whyi was stuck i just needed to stick with it i think. I give up so easily nowadays. Lookin forwrd to fully kickin ass and finishing this def harder than the first and second DMC. (I think Biohazard 4 and Winning Eleven got in the way as well). Special addition sounds cool though best get playin right now!

Hell no! I've just been too busy this week to write anything in this thread.

I've now finished it on normal with Dante - mainly using Swordmaster but I switched over to Royal Guard at about level 12, and played through most of the early levels again using RG. I've now started it on Hard and gone through to level 5 without stopping.

Still enjoying it loads, and having lots of fun experimenting with Beowulf. Since I didn't use it the last time I completed this game, it's still a fairly new weapon to me (and it's very unique compared to the others)

Heh.. I spent quite a few hours on this today.. God I've got crap again. I've just been practicing rinsing the first few levels on easy and normal to get SS's. Not fully powered up Dante, and haven't got Vergil yet.

What a ****ing ace game this is.. I've already completed the Jap version of DMC3 standard, but I keep coming back to this now to hone those skills.

Right on dude, I had a feeling ppl were just too busy perfecting the skillz. Hows the RG training coming along? Have you noticed any improvements? And how go the boss fights?

I myself have almost fully mastered Jump Cancels on all 3 of Vergil's wpns, and I'll be creating a new practice vid of the Skull Room in mission7 on DMD within the week. Once its posted on Youtube I'll send you guys a link.
