In Outrun 2SP (the standard arcade mode) you should see an option at the bottom of the screen which says Outrun 2. You can also play normal Outrun 2 with the more powerfull cars by going to coast to coast mode, then Outrun 2 SP, and again you should see little option to play Outrun 2. All this was in the console version mind, so I dont know if its different for PC.

Got this today and it's sweeeet on the PC running at 1280x1024 on my 19" TFT!
But can someone advise me please?
I've got a 7800GTX - What video settings should I have AA set on and do I tick/untick fogging? Yeah, I got a powerful PC but know **** all about PC games or how to optimise settings...

Well, is it running bad for you or something? If not, then just leave it be.

My spec is pretty dated now... AthlonXP 2600+ Barton, 1GB DDR 400, Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB, and it runs full speed for me w/ AA set to Quality 2 (admittedly I don't have it turned on on the drivers so it might not actually be on properly) and fogging enabled. Leave fogging on, it looks cooler IMO.

Driver-wise, make sure you got mip-mapping turned on on the drivers. 99% sure they will be anyway though.

It looks stunning in AA level 1 with fogging... But I've been told I should have it on AA level 3 with fogging off!
            Off to try it now!
*edit* OMG it looks stunning! Was this really an arcade game about 2 years ago?

Well, the fogging *should* be there if you want it authentic, it's used in the distance etc. Up to the end user of course though, that's why the option is there.

You can likely make it look even better by using the FSAA/AF settings in the driver, though that will then effect all programs unless you use an app to make per-application profiles (I'm less experiebced with Nvidia stuff).

Yeah, fogging is an important visual effect. It's no longer just there to hide pop up/draw in, it's now used for haze etc.

Turning it off would be like turning particles to get a clearer view of the car or some such. Not a good idea and not the way it's supposed to look.

Figured this was worth posting, given many people here probably aren't PC techies... stuff to make Outrun look better.

Anti-alaising removes the jaggies that can plague a game even at high resolution.

Anisotropic Filtering ... well, notive how in the distance on Outrun, everything looks a bit jaggy and unclear, and overdone mipping? Sorts that.

You can change these in the drivers, but a better idea would be to use some sort of program that can make application profiles, so it only effects Outrun. On my ATi card, I use ATi Tray Tools for this.

I set Anti-Alaising to x6 (w/ Adaptive Anti-Alaising ticked), and Anisotropic Filtering set to x8 (w/ HQ ticked).... everything looks so much better, less jaggy like the pics, and still runs at 60fps. Incredible.

Another Audigy 2 card cutting-out here. Only happens after you first load the game - if you restart a race it goes away. Needs fixing.

Apart from that seems spot on.

Sounds pretty critical, given the Audigy2 is still the top selling sound card (thanks to the super price).

Okay, on the actual subject of the game itself, just picked this up as it's been discounted now and I've got some spare time to play things.

So in the one player mode, what's the purpose of being able to buy the stages/routes and the goals? I see they mainly come in Reverse flavour, do they get randomly chosen to be used in the Outrun mode in one player if they are available?

If so, what's the difference between the end stage being available to buy and the goals, cos they are the same thing...?

Everything else I think I understand... I played the original Xbox version a lot, though pretty much solely in multiplayer mode heh...
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Agreed. This is a fairly epic QA gaff and a patch is needed sharpish.

I do have a nasty feeling though that the PC version will have sold so badly SEGA will not give a damn and just forget it ever happened.

Without trying to deviate from the discussion, how much did this game actually sell? I mean, we all knew it wasn't going to be flying off the shelves, but...

Just snapped up the PS2 version from Amazon.. Lovely pricing.

The sound also randomly glitches out to a high pitch squeel and the only way to stop it is to shut the game. Awful really. Thats on 2 seperate systems with an Audigy 2.
