Yeah, could someone provide a 'translation' of the options menu??

Progressive scan is available at the start - the bottom option.

Widescreen is available in the options>top most option>second option from top. FYI - The first one lets you move the screen position.

Cheers for that, will give it a try tonight. I figured the bit at the start was about memory cards so had never really tried it out.

um.. Is anyone still playing this online on the PS2? I haven't actually tried it, but if anyone fancies whooping my arse on it...

Just got the UK PS2 version of this, been playing it solidly for the last two days.

I notice in the "Showroom" section, I need to be connected up to a PSP to be able to purchase some cars - wtf!!

How much content is actually locked this way and is there a way round it as I have no intention of getting a PSP??

The game itself, though, is...sublime. I'm in love.

Yeah, sadly you do need the PSP version to unlock the cars through the normal way, though you can get them (and everything else unlocked) by using a cheat. I won't say what it is here as I've never quite got the hang of the spoiler tags, but it's pretty easy to find on the web.

It wasn't our idea to do it that way BTW, so apologies there.

              ^Thanks for the reply

It's definitely a pity that you need a PSP to unlock stuff but I'm going to max stuff out as much as I can, then stick the cheat in for the extra cars when I've clocked everything I can sans PSP. The game is just too damned good to let a few PSP-related car purchasing problems f*ck things up! (I'm still not even certain this game is running on a PS2...damn, it's gooood!)

PS: Any vintage arcade games unlockable in this? I notice that you can 'buy' the Turbo OutRun music in the Showroom...

Nope, no hidden versions of the old game in there I'm sorry to say, it would have been nice though.

Still, we were very happy to try and get as close as we could to the arcade version of OutRun SP

If you've got the capability to play it, I'd really recommend grabbing the JPN PS2 version (called OutRun 2SP). A few improvements here and there (framerate is even smoother), FF wheel support and no PSP connectvitiy so everything is unlockable.

Probably my favourite version of the game.

With the jap version of this does anyone know if its possible to use a logitech wheel on the ps3?(either ps2 or ps3 wheel)

Also is it online or scoreboards even?

                    Comment

Japanese version does allow use of the Logitech wheels, which is a plus, but we could only do this as all the online features were removed. So no online play or scoreboards of any kind.

Yea, I'm all up for buying it. Already have outrun 2 and c2c for the xbox but you can never have too much outrun. Anyone know anywhere where you can get this for a decent price?

Posts deleted. I know you're all excited but First Play is for impressions only please. It is not for lamely posting pictures or using it to try and have a go at trying to get a rise out of people.

If you want to mess your pants over this news please go here and then come back to this one when you actually want to talk about the gameplay.

I love the use of the right stick in this game to change gear. It makes the gear drift so easy to do and is a brilliant feature. Config C is where its at. Aside from that, this really does play well.
The nuances of the handling seem designed to put the player under stress when he is already messing up 'the perfect line'. Very old school.

Gotten back into this game big time this weekend, thanks to it's 360 compatibility.

I remember isamu said something about the PC version feeling a little 'off' compared to the XBox... I dismissed it, but I think I'm feeling the same thing. Maybe it's the old placebo effect though.

Either way, having real fun starting this from scratch.
