Its always the same, struggle through the first season, get some quality in then start to put some results on the board. Am a few games into my first season in the top flight and am doing good. Its tight at the top with only 3 points seperating the top 5 teams but I am now through my sticky patch where I had 2 losses and 2 draws on the spin. Hauled myself back to the light with a fantastic 3-1 win against Chelsea and sitting good in 3rd spot right now. Aiming for top 3 finish and a cup win hopefully, then bring in some more quality players.

I started with the default players from Celtic so wasn't too bad at start but not great either as they only have a few good players, but slowly building my team up. Cant beat the Master League man, its superb once you get into it and get the team you want, give it time.

Starting the ML with the PES default squad (Castolo, Ximenez, Iouga and the likes) is the best way to play. Yeah it starts out effin' solid, but when you finally get your first decent signing, it slowly starts kicking off. You'll only probably sign a few non big names at first, but they will at least be better than what you got. Then you get your first big name signing... Tis great. Takes a bit of work, but is very rewarding if you stick at it.

Shoot with X, then hold direction and press and hold Y. It's effective with strong players from outside the box, esp. if the ball's coming towards them or there are too many people around you to do anything, so just unleash.

        I need some help though:

My one friend is, well, the most annoying opponent ever. He always plays as Chelsea, which isn't a problem in itself, he's supported them his whole life and while they're excellent they're not unbeatable, but he never lets go of A and never changes player.

If you're attacking, and running down the wing for example, he'll have 1 person right behind you the entire time kicking your heels until he fouls you. Chelsea also have a lot of fast players, so it's often impossible to out run them. He'll never change player, but what really annoys me is that when I try to do a big touch to get away from the player behind me, it normally goes too close to one of his players and it'll auto-change to that person, I'll lose the ball. I can't run full speed, I tend to lose the ball, but I can run in the middle because I'm getting tripped up from behind.

If I'm in the centre of the park, he holds down A again, he'll barge into you, knock you off the ball, and that used to be a foul, but it isn't anymore becuase it's meant to be more intense. I find myself having to pass it around quickly, too quickly and I end up just fudging it up and losing possession.

It's basically really frustrating and I lose my head and then normally conceed a ****ty goal, with the clinical finishing of Shev and Drogba, one mistake is all it takes often.

Any advice you can give... how do I make people off the ball make runs? often want my CF to run, so I can through ball it past the defence, but I find holding down the bumper to give-and-go only works when you've just passed the ball. I dunno, this is just doing my dome in, I need a sure-fire way to give myself more time on the ball and get him to stop fouling me and kicking my heels. Any ideas?

Oh, and does anyone else find that they score and conceed loads more goals in this than PES5? I Wwas playing my buddy (another one) and we seem to have really high scoring games: 4-5, 3-5, 4-4... I wonder if it's because our finishing is more clinical, or whether they've made it much easier.

I'm opposite. I sky many of my chances in this version. It's weird, as I play the PS2 version in work every lunch time with mates and I don't have a problem with shooting.

Similar problem to the one i have online nips, the offline game is so different and you can build up play and are 90% of the time in control. But every time i go online people just charge at you non stop and when they are playing with brazil its bloody hard to beat them tactically.

                Offline, the game is fine.

Online, it's completely broken, unbalanced, laggy and generally not a fun experience. I bet you half of the players some of you lose to, you wouldn't have done in a proper one versus one setting, since both players are on an even keel.

It doesn't seem to matter how you've got your team organised on this. Defending is **** so pretty much any of the mutant players like Messi, Eto, Rooney etc will dance through any defence even if you've got 10 protecting the goal it seems.

I'm at the point where I'm going to shelve this until the twats have vacated and moved elsewhere and Konami have bothered to fix the piece of **** online component.

I`ve already traded mine in at GameStation but if there are any significant improvements to the game via a patch I`ll maybe pick it up again.

I`ve never been as angry and frustrated with a game as I have been with PES6 online, it is ****ing ****e!

Pull yer finger out of yer arse, Konami, unless you are working extra hard on Silent Hill 5 then all is forgiven!

To be honest, I'm not quite sure how your relating your defense problem to online play as you haven't explained yourself at all (or do I have to read the whole thread?) As it stands, your comments could easily be applied to offline play as well, meaning offline isn't "fine".

Well, the fundamental problem of button lag doesn't exist in the offline game, where as it's present in one form or another online.

The delay of the "Power Bar" for example, since there is absolutely no way how to determine how much power you've placed on the ball until a second after you've entered the command.

Defensive problems for me have come from the game switching players even when the auto-switching has been turned off. For example, I go in for a slide challenge using the nearest player to the opponent, only he hasn't done it, the CB has thus leaving him on his arse and the opponent a clear run at goal.

Basically, if you get a game where the button lag is less than a second, then consider yourselves lucky! It's a complete game breaker for me.

Bleeders point is absolutely right. Offline the game is fanastic. I played 5 games last night offline with my mate and the matches we got were superb (a 4-0 win for me with Chelsea against Barcelona being the highlight). Fast flowing football, some amazing trickery on the wings and some really strong defending by both of us, the game jut felt so good and it is so much more evolved from previous versions.

Online it doesn't work. What Bleeders means is you cant defend because there is a delay between button presses and guys reacting to it so making any quick tackles, defensive re-shuffles or applying pressure is impossible as you end of controlling a different player to the one you think sometimes because of these delays.

Luckily I am right in about the Master League and always play it offline with mates so am getting everything I need from it just now. Until they tighten up the live play I wont be going near it either, which is disappointing.

On the whole though the game is amazing and some of the games last night with Chelsea V Barca and Chelsea V Man Utd were just superb. I love the more detailed dribbling, passing and shooting mechanics in the 360 version. You really need to do more to get the most out of players now and it just feels brilliant when you nail those moves and score some crackers!!

I've just played this for the first time today and all I can say is that it feels very very bad. It's so damn slow it's almost unbearable. Went back to Fifa 07 and it was like playing in fast forward.

I couldn't find a single thing about Pro Evo that I preferred this time around. I think mine will be going in the for sale forum.

People not giving Fifa a chance are missing out big time, it's a FAR better game than this in my humble opinion.

You play it for one day and make your opinion and then say people are not giving Fifa a chance. Maybe you should give Pro Evo a chance Jebus, i hated it at first and thought it was slow but that changed after a few days, and now i love it.

Been playing this for a while now but thought id give it a bit of time before commenting. Ive played the PES and WE series for many, many years now and normally every iteration is like a stout, gloved, slap to the face. Something that whilst initially shocking eventually becomes a breath of fresh air your very grateful for. Pes6 doesnt give you a short sharp slap but rather deicises to kick you in the nads, punch you in the face and call your mother a slag. Its a brutal, brutal reintorduction to a series that ive followed for years but i love it. More than ive loved any other version.

With every PES/WE i whack the difficulty up to maximum and try to win the world cup with England without re-loading after a loss. If i lose then its back to the beggining. After that i go straight onto ML on maximum difficulty. What is initially noticeable is that a player has to rely much less on pace. Its still there in the game but you have to use it more tactically as opposed to using it as a blunt weapon in previous versions. Whilst pace has been rightfully toned down slightly both power/strength and, more importantly, the significance of a players physical frame has been increased. Take Crouch for example, his stats arent the best, arguably he's under-rated, but his gangly frame causes problems for defenders who just cant get at him. Play the ball to him at shin hight and his close control and bizzare deft touch, stuff that he does in real life and is unique to him, is something to behold.

The reduction of pace as a key tool has changed the way ML is played. In previous versions id opt for players like Saha, Boa morte, Cisse, Martins, Ewerthon, Tavano etc but now since pace is less significant im looking for power/strength, shooting accuracy and technical ability. My first two ML sigings were King from Watford, a big strong striker, and Mcbride from fulham, a clever veteran. The whole way ive played has changed and konami have done well to keep me challenged so many years in.

ML is still the jewel within pes/we and for me its always a bit of fun to return to the hapless Castolo and his yearly change of haircut, marvel at huylens utter, utter rubbishness and cry at the fact that ximilex is the slowest, most rubbish left winger ever. On maximum difiiculty ML is one of the toughest tests in gaming. I still mourn the loss of Vornander to old age but i reckon im in a minority on that one. Libermann aint no replacement for the big man. One can only hope hes gone into a coaching role or something . Vornander Fan Fiction! something for the true pes fan.

The criticisms for me stem from the stuff left out of the 360 version. Its the little things like the lack of player ratings at the end of matches that hurt the most. I always liked finding out who my star player was. Overall though its another yearly slice of something special for this pes fan.

I played it for 2 hours straight (at least) and didn't like it. Why should I give it any more of a chance when Fifa clicked straight away? I don't have the time nowadays to give a game like this that long to click, a game has to be immediate for me. It feels too rigid for me, hard to dribble and even harder with the dash button held down. Sorry, I've given this a chance, it's not a RPG or an action adventure game, I can't give it "a few more levels". It's a football game and I didn't enjoy a single minute of playing it.

I just find everything from interface, graphics, sound and obviously gameplay far superior in Fifa, sorry, I know it's unpopular but it's how I feel.

Also, Pro Evo has nothing to make me want to give it longer. At least I tried it, whereas with Fifa a lot of people dismiss it without trying because it's EA. That was more what I was getting at to be honest. I'm also going on how I felt after a few hours of Fifa gameplay compared to a few hours of Pro Evo 6 gameplay.
