Is it my connection or is the online part of this game broken like Pro Evo's? I tried playing some co-op but I had to retry about 10 times before I could connect to someone and then it disconnected me after about 20 minutes (that, or the guy was fed up with me being killed all the time ).

kill Ramm on Insane yet? Its really starting to p*** me off. I may have to get a mate to help me beat him. Its just a shame that ive got all this way on my own and cant do it. I didnt get stuck on a single part until i came up against this git. I just knew he would be a problem
We did it in a similar way, although didn't run right up to the turrent gun. We just ran up to the facing block and jumped over. Ended up going up and going a couple of times to the start area. It was nails hard, but got there in the end. I'd suggest doing it via co-op though, much better.
Just finished on hardcore and feel it's so good, it's up there with Halo. Sure the themes are nothing new but the execution is glorious and builds up throughout the game. The pop and cover game mechanic is superb and I found the nature of the battles to get better as the game progresses as the amount of enemies and their cunning increases.

The multiplayer is fantastic as well and is a real change from run and gun and has brought out the most teamwork and coordination we've had since the original R6!. Loads of laughs too with the saw and the stompin'!.

Hats off to Epic for producing such a well rounded and polished bit of software. Let the gears turn for number 2....

When you finish the game on insane you get an exclusive gamerpic/s to show off to everyone that you have done it on that level.

Got there eventually, but bugger me that was long.

Here's a pic I took of the train off my 100" HD screen. The sky is a work of art, and static shots don't do it justice do they?

Having played a few hours of Versus last night and a wee bit of co-op I can now give my full opinion of Gears... FLAWLESS!!

Never before have I felt so IN a game. As soon as the action kicked off I forgot it is was game I was playing, my only thoughts were next cover, reload and must stay alive the intensity of the gun fights is like nothing I have played before, I really felt like this is how battles would have been fought in these conditions and I didnt ever question the mechanics, why? Because they just feel so comfortable... the 1 button cover, roll, etc system for me is spot on. After a bit of practice you can roll when you want, move from cover to cover like a ninja and use the battlefield as a weapon as much as your gun. Flanking an enemy and getting in close with the Chainsaw bayonet has got to be one of the most satisfying feelings a game has ever given me even sitting at my work now all I can picture are the places I have fought and the kills I have had so far, this game is all over me and I expect it to be for a very long time with the co-op and versus modes.

Yes, the co-op and versus modes... as if nailing locusts in single player wasn't enough you get to go online and do it to your mates, enemies, strangers and I have to say it is the best live experience I have had since Halo2. No hint of lag in any game I played and the game modes are immense fun. The fantastic design of some of the maps plays a big part in this of course and they are brilliant. Nicely balanced regardless of team size they all work well, some obviously more than others and we can already start to see favourites emerging (Gridlock being one of mine). So between this and the unbelievable co-op gears is going to live for a long time after I finish the campaign. Am currently playing on Hardcore and it fells like the right level for single player, plenty of challenge and you really need to work hard to get those sweet kills. Insane level will be a full co-op run for me I think and I am drooling at the thought of it.

Finally, the visuals... anyone who doesn't admit this is the best looking game they have ever seen is off their head. There simply isn't anything that can touch this right now, ground breaking doesn't do it justice. I keep waiting for the screen to tear or the frame rate to start chugging but I have had nothing but pure, glossy, beautiful visuals from the start of the game, both offline and on. Its great to see a game that is so technically capable that the online does not suffer visually and its a shame that I also say it is refreshing. The team that pulled this monster together deserve every award they get as the technical work they have done here is nothing short of extraordinary. The best comparison I can draw is that this game looks like the CG movie Final Fantasy Spirits Within, except you are in control and to be given a game with quality on that level is frightening. The sound is also right on the money, from the booming gun fire to the gritty soudntrack it all just feels so right. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the music in the game is like the great stuff from Aliens and I would have to agree with that. A great, big booming score accompanies every amazing battle and there isn't a a gunfight that goes by where I dont appreciate the experience this game is giving me.

The End of Act 1 had me questioning what I was seeing / playing... from the pre boss cut scene, which I have to say is one of the best cut scenes I have ever seen, to the superbly pitched boss battle, I had to SCRAPE my jaw off the floor when it cam to an end. The game just doesn't let up and I am dreading actually getting to the end of the campaing cause it will be over till they bring out the sequl of course, hehe.

So, to summarise... an epic, balls to the wall action fest from start to finish with some of the tightest visuals, sound and controls I have ever seen. A joy to play and an unbelievable technical acheivement... more of this insane quality please developers.

I am feeling it's a bit average, I can't put my finger on it. It looks great but its too dark and the whole game is very short.

I can't get away from the fact they are using cheap gameplay tricks over and over again to make it longer. examples that come to mind are endless spawning enemys (or at least a large number of spawning enemys and that stupid puzzle with the bezerker, how many times can they milk it?

                          Comment

There are only so many baddies per battle. When you kill them all the battle ends.

Agreed on the berserker, it was unnecessary in the conservatory, but it was a welcome addition on the train.

I don't think it's short at all on hardcore. I stopped at chapter 3, re-did the first 3 then carried on on hardcore to ensure it lasted. Still haven't scratched the surface of act 5 yet after 3 FULL days. I am a sad bastard and have booked today off especially.

                              I'm on casual & have died about 50 billion times - & I'm not gung-ho'ing it either.

Had my first go on multiplayer elimination last night (thanks for the invite Gerry). Most excellent.

Final round and everyone on our team dies rather quickly except Gerry who proceeds to pick off all four of the enemy one-by-one in truly legendary fashion.

This game will be spending a lot of time in my 360.
