I'm playing on the GC too, wouldn't dream of touching one of those infernal Wii contraptions!

I started playing this after playing Okami, but Okami drove me up the wall with it's endless slow irritating dialogue, brainless combat and repeated fetch and carry tasks, to the point where I gave up on it. Admittedly that wasn't very far in. I'm no nintendo fan boy but Zelda is a masterclass in this kind of game, IMO all Okami has going for it is fancy visual flair (even if I have seen it all before in Mojib ribbon).

That's certainly a unique way of looking at it! Fair enough, though. Imagine what would happen if all review scores were based on this concept.

Oh wow, I completely agree. It won't be popular to say it, but I think people are blinded by the art style (this applies to WW too, frankly). They let Okami get away with basically copying Zelda and praise it as better likely because it's a new game, rather than a sequel in a long-running franchise. It might feel fresher because of this, but if you actually look at it Okami obviously can't do Zelda as well as Nintendo does it.

And yes, the GameCube version of Twilight Princess is definitely better than the Wii version. I just hope Nintendo gets it right for the first original Wii Zelda, because there won't be a GameCube version to fall back on next time.

TBH, I didn't really notice the holes until I read an EDGE article on the game. I was already in love when I realised what might have been.

Obviously the graphics are a part of the experience, so to discount them is moronic. I don't know exactly why I loved Okami so much - it was just thrilling from start to finish. It only happens once in a blue moon, but some games just feel special to me; this is one of those games. I really loved all the characters in the game, too - another rarity.

The important thing to remember is that all these are subjective judgements. I get the impression you're a Zelda aficionado. I am definitely not. Wind Waker was the first Zelda game I played from start to finish.

The calligraphy element of okami was completely fresh and breathtaking, I thought, especially for combat, and a world away from the increasingly staid mechanics of zelda...which I also love, by the way. That said, okami was awfully over-long, finding excuses to recycle boss fights, and not one of it's dungeons presented anything approaching a zelda-esque challenge.

I finished it.. kind of a sad moment as I can't help wondering if this is the last proper Zelda we'll ever see, given the new direction of Nintendo.

Anyway, it's awesome down to the last second, definitely a match for OoT and with better visuals, so who wouldn't love it? Plus no stupid whale guts level either!

The last couple of bosses were pretty tricky so I take back what I said before.

            - oh yeah it took me about 36 hours and that was rushing through (going straight to dungeons etc), this is in RPG territory - you definitely get your money's worth!

Couple of questions after reading the thread in more detail -

The little sarcastic baby is called Malo in my US GC version, is he called Milo on the Wii?

Also someone complained that you had to warp out of dungeons to spend rupees when you hit your max, so you didn't lose the ones in chests. On the GC if you were full any Rupee over 20 value would get put back in the chest so you could come back for it later. Another difference between versions?

Exactly the same on the Wii.
