Yeah, this game has no 'options' as such, but the variety really is in the track branching and different classes of vehicles. No two races are *ever* the same, and it actually gets pretty challenging in the later levels. Not like something like Ridge where every race is the same line and you win them all on your first go.

Of course, an online mode would be the icing on the cake

I am loving this game!! I haven't had this much fun from a game in a long time. It is visually stunning, the first desert track that I just played blew me away, sorry can't remember the name of the track, doh!
The physics and handling of the vehicles are spot on.
Level design so far has been excellent and there are routes through levels that suit each type of vehicle, making each course seem new when played with different ones.
I played GTHD concept after a session on this game and it all seemed so boring and samey.
This game will be getting a lot of my play time.

Edit: course that blew me away was Dust Devil, more beautiful than mist falls!

The western market will love this game and it is a must buy launch title for europe.

Have to agree, this is true next gen and the western version can only improve (if possible) with online and replay's

Not had this much fun in ages, well happy

Ive been playing this for a little while now, and I'm not sure what to make of it.

If you can ignore the fact that this game has possibly the worst soundtrack Ive ever encountered on any medium, absolutely no character whatsoever and a game structure that postively destroys any sense of immersion, then this games for you. The front end as a whole is a complete mess if you ask me. The lack of any real structure to the game is well documented, but the whole layout and progession through the menus is bewildering. And having to wait 5 seconds to cycle through the appallingly designed cars on the vehicle select screen is not what I call next gen.

The gameplay is great, and the graphics are stunning. But I find it impossible to get my teeth into a game that has more to do in the options menu than in the single player mode. AI is good, and it never fails to bring a smile to my face when I see some **** hitting the fan in mid-air while you race underneath the falling debris.
But the soundtrack is inexcusable, its absolutely ****ing dreadful.

My problem with this game can be summed up in 2 words...Ridge Racer. Having been playing that solid since my machine arrived, Ive gone from a game thats positvely bursting with life, energy, character, adrenaline, speed and music that gets your heart racing .. to its older, salaryman cousin Motorstorm, who doesnt really have his heart in the job but gets his work done, at the fear being a complete failure.

So I'm basically looking at this Japanese release as a demo (lets be honest, ive seen demos with more immersion than this full price release). The gameplay is sound, but more of absolutely everything is needed for the western release. And please for the love of god enable custom soundtracks.

summed up perfectly...The front end/game menus (or lack off)/slow vehicle select/lack of dials or track maps ingame/inability to skip music tracks ingame - there are some deent tracks but Nirvana FFS?)....i could go on

however it is graphically really nice and plays well with the six axis pad, some lovely moments too where it all seems worthwhile. You can tell this has been severly rushed.

Nothing against Nirvana personally. In fact, if one band single handedly changed my entire life its Cobain and chums. Unfortuently, it just does not work on this game, and the same goes for the ****ing dire Kings of Leon, Slipknot...etc etc. I could go on and on (the soundtrack certainly does).

Its basically like the evolution guys went up to the first black foo fighters hoody wearing 13 year old on the street and said "give us a list of what crazy, happening wicked bands you like dude!", took one look at the list and put the tracks in the game, not giving a **** about how they would fit in, nor affect the experience, the whole game sounds like one of the vehicles scrapping along a canyon wall.

Tbh, i cant help but feel some people are looking at this game with rose tinted glasses on. The visuals may be next gen, but you have to look at the whole package here people. And this package as it stands is about as next gen as Dynamite Cop.

Well i managed a few hours on this christmas eve as i was trying out a friends ps3 before xmas day and he had no games so i stuck my copy in may be the only way i get to play it this side of 07 thanks parcel farce. Anyway back on track my 360 owning sony hateing friend also popped by and was blown away by motorstorms gfx as where we all. I dont know if its running through hdmi that give it an overall sharper look than 360 running on the same tv in component but it just blew us away. It handles well from bikes to buggys they feel alot different to drive. This will be great online is the rumoured patch for the japan version just that a rumor or has it been officially confirmed. We then went back to pes6 on 360 and it looked super blurry again i think this might be due to component but it was a noticable drop in sharpness.

I mananged to spend as much as yesterday as humanly possible playing this and i love it.

It's easily the most technically pant moistening game i've ever seen or played. I thought Gears was gob-smacking but this poops on it from a fairly large drop due to the size of some of the tracks and the sheer amount of stuff going on. There's cars rolling, motorbike riders being thrown from their perch, trucks slamming into rocks and exploding as well as the usual dust/partical/fire effects. If i was a graphics pimp this would be my whore of choice.

There is only one main game mode but i really don't care at the moment. I'm not bothered about time attacks or online racing (as BT are still farting around with my broadband). There seems to only be a fairly small amount of tracks but they are completely different depending on what vehicle you are driving. Big trucks are more at home in the muddy gullies piledriving their way through anything smaller than Feltz whereas motorbikes and ATV's are better at clinging to the tight ledges that tempt the more adventurous racer.

The sound effects are a little disappointing as they are rather sparse and are further missed due to the lack of any feedback through the six-axis pad. I think the music is much better than most games of this genre and the chioce of rock/indie ties in with the festival theme really well. Also any game with a Pendulum track makes me happy.

As it is i think this game rocks and will only get better when the US version is released (replays FTW). Imho it's the first killer app for the PS3 and will no doubt be the game that the demo pods will have running come the Euro launch.

P.S - It has the best intro i've seen in a very long time.

So would you say it is better than any car game on 360 thus far?

apologies for the bump, but ive just tried playing this, and something is becoming more and more apparent every time I give it a go.

                              Its ****ing dire.
