I just made my way back to the starting zone to see if Croner had any new standard jobs (as I had completed all he had to offer before I left) However on talking to Croner (is that even his name?) and asking if he had any more jobs, it appears as though they have all reset...He is offering me all the same missions I have already completed.

I thought it was a bit odd so wen't outside to check the guy in the village, and even he wants me to go and complete all his old missions again.

As a test, I went through all of Croners missions again, instantly failing them to see if there was anything new, and low and behold there was a new mission: to take out a stalker named filing (or something like that) who is located near the new area I was exploring.

Is this normal, as I was hoping there was some kind of progression to even the normal missions (it seems that way anyway), or do they always reset when you switch zones?

Has this happened to anyone else?

The game can be difficult as hell sometimes, and it doesn't help that I always forget to save .

Anyone done the military base infiltration yet? Awesomeness, I waited till dark and abused them with my silenced pistol.

I've not even entered the second area yet, way behind everyone else (

is there a way of entering without having to kill the guards? They destroy me every time

      .

Not tried it myself but there are details here on how to get a performance increase.

Theres two ways that I know of PeteJ

To the left of the guards there is a tunnel with lightning, if you time it you can get through there. The other way is the the right, theres a gap in the fence by the tracks

I just walked through the checkpoint - well, when I say walked it was more of a heavy fire fight.

Funny story actually - took out tow guys by the vehicles at the barrier and the remaining one bolted into the checkpoint building. I legged it into the compound and up to the observation tower, training my gun on the door of the building and waiting for him to show himself so I could cap him

All of a sudden there was a massive ruckus from inside and I see a body slump over into the doorway. Slightly confused and still training my gun on the doorway with an itchy trigger finger I watched in disbelief as another Stalker, armed with a machine gun, stroll out of the building as calm as you like.

He must have been coming through, stumbled across the last guy and took him out for me

Unless you mean at the start of the second area where that guy is getting

                  held up by the bandits

? In which case, I think fighting is your only option - no matter how stealthy I tried to be it kept kicking off.

Zanza, if you're talking about the regular non-story quests - "Do you have any jobs for me?" blah, blah - I think they just shuffle around at random with some people. "Kill (person X) in (area Y)". "Kill (one single/a whole group of) (X type of monster) in (area Y)". "Bring me (artifact type X)" and so on. I've seen several of them repeat, I don't think many of them are in any way unique.

Holy Christ, Yantar. I - the noises and the shuffling and the moans and everything's so lifeless and the bit where my vision started to go sepia and I couldn't go in the base yet but it was that ****ing unnerving this is probably the closest a videogame has ever come to having me turn tail and run in terror. Someone hold me.

Concept, again, for the love of God, buy this.

With the special lighting turned off this game runs fine on my fairly old PC, Athlon 3 ghz, 1.5 gig ram and a radeon 9800 pro.

What a superb game, tons of atmosphere, theres nothing like it really. Its got me hooked. I love hunting out stashes. Those cow monsters proper freak me out, mostly harmless but one time i stumbled across one and woke it up with a growl then chased after me!

Pete, what spec is your PC? I'm wondering if my Geforce 6800GS would be up to the job. Currently runs VERY smooth with high quality settings and static lighting.
