How does it assume that? Because it is a sequal or because you are going online where the game doesn't determine the difficulty of your opposition.
The only way you are going to get good at it is by playing it.

The divide between the skills of players is really big in the Halo games, unlike GoW which requires a little less in the skills department and this is noticeable online as matches are often less one sided. This isn't a fault or benefit of either game though.

The latest 1up podcast basically hit on a lot of my feelings with regards to hardcore multiplayer gaming. One thing I'd appreciate in this Beta is a training ground so you can learn the maps offline (if for security reasons you're required to be signed into Live to do this, fair enough). I also hate not being able to mute players easily... unless I'm missing something really obvious (I might be). I thought Bungie mentioned a while back an easy way to mute players in Halo 3.

Obviously, a huge solution would be bots or enemy AI taken from single-player, but I remember Bungie saying some time ago that this was never going to happen with Halo.

I'd reccomend that if you need some practiceat Halo, wait around for a week or so and give time for people's ranks to level out and for the matchmaking system to settle down. Then log on and try playing, you'll be put against people of a similar class.

Or if anybody fancies it I'll join 3 new halo player in some training games and I'll take you through the ins and outs whilist we play. I'll be on this evening, anybody is welcome.

You are - Bring up player list midgame (back button) and use right stick to select player you want to mute - I'm sure it tells you this on the matchmaking screen !

The main purpose of the beta is for them to test matchmaking so there's no chance of it happening there. You'll be able to do that in the final game by setting up system link games, though.

Hold back to bring up the scores, use the right stick to choose a player, hit X to mute. You can do it in a couple of seconds and really I hope more games adopt this.

No need to do it that way, just set up a custom game and make it private/closed - that is if you want to learn on your own.

If only you could do this in Gears.

You can do it using the guide button on your controller in any game, not as fast though :/

Another tit bit about the brute Spiker, the bullets bounce of solid walls and floor(like metal), doesn't happen with every bullet fired, but it can (you'll notice the bullets are the same the Spiker grenades discharge)

                          Some cool games this weekend.

My favourite being the absolute beasting I gave to a cornered VIP which involved two fully charged dual plasma shots, an energy drainer, and a plasma grenade.

I didn't realise the power drainer actually disabled vechicals. Ghost didnt look right just sitting on the ground.

You can do that with one player? Excellent.

Cheers chaps. Knew I'd be missing something as I vaguely remembered one of Bungie's Weekly updates from a few months ago mentioning you could easily do it.

Yeah, sorry about that. I ended up leaving my Xbox on while I was away. I would have joined some of the people playing Halo 3 from around here otherwise.
