Played a couple of games earlier with thanks to EvilBoris. One of the best things about the levels is the environments. They're so much more interesting than those in the Halo2 multiplayer. Running rivers, lush grass and the all important halo ring rising out of the sea.

Really loving the beta-ness of it all

Had a few games with some other NTSC folk earlier, and really enjoyed it. It;s so true that finding likeminded people on Halo REALLY improves the experience.

Got some neat new folks to play with on there too.

      Well done chaps!

It depends on your distance. Remember, the Battle Rifle is intended for medium range combat, if you're too far away you're better off just trying to hit the body.

Had some good games today, I'm still really enjoying it.
Nice to play with some new people, even if they don't know where to take the flag , no names mentioned :P

Some good games with NTSC peeps again, but the same thing that I find with PvP has hit with this too. I get killed after 5 seconds of spawning again, and it's just no fun.

The game doesn't encourage team tactics at all either, perhaps that would make a difference.

I'm looking forward to the single player game, but I think I'll give this a miss.

Dont just run out into the open then

Nah, in all honesty, you're not bad at all. Also, Halo is a pretty fast paced game, even the best die continuously at times. Just go with it, cos when you do pull off the most legendary of things, you'll feel damned proud!

I find it encourages team tactics alot, but if you're playing with people that dont speak- it does lessen the experience somewhat.

For instance I played Halo 2 with a bunch of regulars for nigh on every night for 2 years. Because we knew each others style so well, we built on that- devising new plans and tactics, sometimes even on the fly.

As I said earlier, its all about the people you're playing with.

I haven't even ranked despite playing 30 games now - I much prefer the co-op stuff of Rainbow 6 - I'll leave this to the peeps that can deal with the sniping.

                  It's not for me.

Marty, i guess we both would make the most deadly Halo 3 team then

it's good to know that there are lots of gamers out there that actually prefer co-op- over competitive gaming. after playing Quake and Counterstrike to death i've become pretty much fed up with PvP game types. even though they are Halo branded they can be just to annoying and stressful these days. guess we better leave this to the kids and look forward to playing the Halo 3 co-op campaign.

Halo multiplayer can be very frustrating, in fact yesterday I just had to turn off the 360 because it was pissing me off so much. Likening it to surfing, when you're on the wave it's one of the best things out there, but its so easy to come off. With Halo when you are in the zone it's just immense; you can rack up loads of kills and you can basically start predicting what everyone is doing and where the enemy is hiding. Unfortunately there are also times where you cannot get a single kill and everything goes against you.

Halo multiplayer has a very harsh learning curve despite being fairly easy to pickup, and this is because some people are just incredibly good through playing it every single day.

I played a few games with Yoshi and EvilBoris yesterday afternoon and it was good fun. My connection was red almost the whole time so it was a dog to play, and I couldn't really hear anything on the mic (a problem I get with most Live games, apart from when Capcom is hosting on his uber connection!). I know they are both excellent players but we couldn't seem to get it together.

It seemed the other team had the advantage every game, so when we defended they just walked all over us and when we attacked we couldn't get anywhere!

Only game type I'm having any success with is VIP.

Pretty much how I feel, really glad I'm not alone.

I also far prefer the T-Hunt (etc) co-op modes of Vegas. I've always loved Co-op since playing Duke Nukem 3D modem games, I do like deathmatches but only when well executed and fair on all players, I don't think Halo multiplayer is particularly good but I'm clearly in the minority.

                          I'll also stick to Vegas/others I think.

The more I play the more I love.

It's a very different proposition to R6 to be fair - Differently paced, balanced etc etc. The problem is if you haven't been frequenting Halo2 since launch it's hard to get up to speed quickly on weapon balances, when to use stealthy crouching approaches, awareness of the motion detector etc.

Don't give up - but don't go into matchmaking on your own it's best to learn with 8 people in a lobby doing team training to build tactics and learn the maps etc.

But thats the problem, for someone like me (not a Halo 2 vet) then it's pretty much impossible and no fun. I feel this beta really punishes people who aren't veterans of Halo 2, which isn't fair and just makes me think this multiplayer mode is Halo 2.5 etc.

I think thats one of the problems with this mutiplayer, when it comes to Halo newcomers (or people who don't play halo much). It doesn't really give you a chance to get the feel of game and what weapons work best in what situtations as you're gonna be in a team situtation where stuff is happening and something has to be achieved.

This shouldn't be so bad when Halo 3 is actually released in Septemeber. You'll have single player (and online co-op I assume) to get to grips with the game and so on. You'll also have custom games available meaning you can learn the maps easier and play with ntsc-uk folk in a less competitive enviroment etc etc.
