In fairness, Sumo are the exception in that they've proven they truely understand what Sega francises are all about, with both Outrun and VT3. Their titles come across as people who were fans of Sega games in the day.

This new game is a good game by itself I reckon, but I agree with Kotaku's overall stance that it doesn't feel quite 'Sega'. It's no Sega Rally, it's not even Sega Rally 2.

Well to be fair OutRun 2 and OutRun Coast 2 Coast (or OutRun 2 SP as it was known in the arcades) was actually by Sega internal (AM2) in Tokyo... Sumo just handled the console ports.

That aside, yes OutRun 2 was an amazing game. Pure 60fps SEGA arcade glory with sublime handling, amazing music, and perfect gameplay.

Just played this and it's great. I also noticed the ''Game over, Yeah!'' bit at the end and also the ''Turn around!'' phrases. The carving track and music, is great and it all has the SEGA vibe to it IMO.

        Another must buy for me.

You know what? Having just got round to playing it, I totally agree with you Kotatsu. It's the least "SEGA" SEGA game I've ever played

There's just absolutely no sense of speed at all? I thought rallying was all about going hell for leather down confined routes? This is neither. You meander down wide open roads. Then when you get to a corner, no problem, just bounce off the wall for pratically no penalty.

            The music's just dire too...

i`m glad i`m not the only one who thinks it`s dire. also, whats with the "stretched" cars in your rear view mirror ? so so sad, and i adored SR back in the day

Oh, and even the "Game over yeah!" is crap compared to the original. Sounds like they got that s/he/it off of the Britney youtube thing to do it. pffft.

If you want 'proper' rallying get WRC or colin mcrae, this is a SEGA game. Everything is gona' be very lush and beautiful. And non- realistic.

                    looks like a marmite game.

Toy car physics, 30fps and invisible bouncy walls for the win then.

It's bloody wierd really, it ticks most of the right boxes in terms of the actual handling, even the general look of the courses isn't a million miles away from SR2... it just doesn't ever feel like your playing a Sega Rally game.

The physics are Sega Rally through and through though, so you can't slag it off for the bouncy handling.

Thing is, what some of us are saying is that this very much isn't a SEGA Rally game. The handling is all off, the frame rate is terrible, the music is awful, and the visuals are dull.

Maybe we could set up a best times leaderboard? Although not many people here seem to like it.

If you think that this is ment to be a replica of rallying and think where's all the narrow roads and real handling cars then you clearly haven't grasped what the game is all about.

Lets face it, what we really want is for Sega to stick the original Sega Rally (with Saturn version handling and music) on XBLA, with online play and the like.

Please do tell us what its all about then. Is it meant to be an updated fun arcade racing game of the past? because this simply isnt.

The frame rate is a good 30fps, I know you work an artist or something along those lines and you may look at it differently in terms of frame rate,

That's my moan over, now how many enimies have i made.
