The tracks in the demo really don't do the full game justice. It also definitely feels like Sega Rally - all the old cornering tricks I used to use in the old games work here too. The track deformation also works superbly - this is pretty much what I was expecting from an updated SR game. Top stuff.

This is a definite purchase for me, I must have played the demo for a good 3 hours last night, its superb.

I couldn't get away with DiRT, mainly due to the pivot based handling, and the floaty feeling of the cars.

This is aracde style 'quick blast' central.

Can understand how its not everyone's cup fo tea though.

I've played it a few times now, and while it's not bad, it's nowhere near as fun as Outrun2 is,
Halo3 will be arriving next week and short after PGR4 this is a no go for me.
I think they will have a hard time getting some decent sales, even the excellent Outrun2 sold badly.

Isn't that Halo 3 day? Oops Sega! Every other publisher is avoiding the few weeks around Halo 3 like the plague, so trust Sega to do something like that eh? :P Such a Sega thing to do.

I don't want to prolong this but I had to pull you up on that point.

While it may not be possible for *all* games to be 60fps, it's absolutely possible for Sega Rally to be 60fps. It's an incredibly controlled, linear environment, where geometry and texture levels can be perfectly controlled.

Add to that the arcade heritage of the series (you can count the number of 30fps SEGA arcade racers on a few fingers) and that the 2 big racers on each platform - Forza 2 on 360, and GT Prologue/HD on PS3 are 60fps then I'm not seeing much of an excuse.

Anywho I really like the demo but feel that Colin McRae Dirt has passed the Sega Rally series for thrills and feeling. I adore the vibe though and will more than likely be buying the game.

Best bit is on the sea side course on the start line when the player spins the tyres and... They spin in the deep sand! Never really been done as well as this before and I'm looking forward to how the game shapes up.

    Had some games yesterday.

On framerates. Well it looked smooth a good to me. (43inch plasma 720p)

On visuals. Looks OK. Parts of the canyon run looks more than OK but it isn't a DIRT beater. It's rock solid framerate is a welcome change!

On gameplay. I can't get on with the handling. I miss that feeling of grip when you hit the tarmac. I miss the control on the corners.

I love arcade racers and thought DIRT was great fun. (But with some dubious trucking thown in, and missed online opeprtunities) I was hoping this was going to be better, and the ultimate problem is the handling. It just seems damn floaty and just not fun.

    Colour me dissapointed.

Indeed. There is a place for Frame rate chat as it is important but I'm now sick of listening to people deride game for being 30fps.

    Kotatsu, I'm looking at you.
