I always play in third person view. I can never judge the width of the car in FPS. That goes for all racers I play btw.
Edit: Just to add to that. I don't mind In-Car views where you see the detail of the car, but I find the ones where you're pretty much level with the ground totally unrealistic. I know when I drive my car in real life, I certainly don't feel like I'm strapped to the bonnet.Last edited by ChrisF; 17-09-2007, 13:39.

Definate purchase for me, this is just an extremely fun rally/racing game. It took me a few races to get used to the handling but once I did it was a joy to play! I love the grooves that are left in the dirt and how going through them gives you added grip. Graphically it looks nice, not DiRT like but very nice nonetheles.s Oh and It runs smoothly without any hitches it the frame rate whatsoeverIf you're looking for some fun arcade racing action look no further than Sega Rally I guess

This is pretty good. I HATE realistic racers - I hate Forza, I hate GT, I hate the lot of 'em. I love my Daytona's, Outrun's and Ridge Racer's :P
I'm quite pleased with this overall, plays like I hoped it would. No hiding the generally western feel to the music or presentation, something we'll have to get used to.
Not gonna win any awards graphically either, I think it's something it'll be critisised about, but it's not a big issue.
I play Sega Rally and RR in first person, but for some reason Daytona and Outrun work best in third person for me.Last edited by sj33; 17-09-2007, 15:22.

It took me a good few races to get used to the handling but once I got the hang of it I thought it was really fun. Like how the fences at the side of the road break when you crash into them even if you cant go off the general track area. I have to say though I didn't really appreciate the music much either. Stuck on some initial D eurobeat tho and all was well.

I must say though, while I do enjoy this, as an actual sequel to the original Sega Rally, I do prefer Sega Rally 2. There's no real shaking off the fact that it's developed outside of 'normal' Sega, it's in your face from the menu to the music.
Still an enjoyable little game though, I just can't place it in the same catagory as Outrun, or that new SegaRaceTV etc.

Just played through both tracks of this, and expectations lowered it still managed to disappoint me. I'd rate the Saturn version of SEGA Rally as the greatest non Super MarioKart console racer ever, so I come to this as a fan of the series...
So this new one then - it's ugly, particularly the canyon track. The geometry looks like it's fallen out of a PS2 game, there's no HDR, almost no specular, and it generally just looks bland and boring. The beach track is better but still a million miles away from stuff like DIRT from an art standpoint.
And I don't want to go on about this, but what on earth were they thinking with the dreadful frame rate... There's not even any motion blur to attempt to mask the juddery 30fps mess. Urgh. Just painful, and very un-SEGA.
Then there's the atrotious (and again, un-SEGA) music. Absolutely shockingly bad. Tacking on a few vintage SEGA Rally sound effect cues doesn't help, the sound in this game is beyond awful.
As a game it also left me cold. The handling just felt detached with none of the awsome 'bite' you would get in the original when you suddenly hit tarmac. Almost felt like the car was a hovercraft with no connection to the ground. The original was slidey too, but nothing like this bad and there was always the feeling the car was connected to the road.
Also the one big USP of this game - the deformable ground - seems to make very little difference to the gameplay and has been blown totally out of all proportion.
I always wondered if a Western dev could do a treasured SEGA internal property justice and it seems they really, really can't.
