I've never had a coop game yet that hasn't stuttered like mad and thats with only 2 players

I've had the odd freeze while playing co-op with three others but we managed to get through the whole campaign on Heroic in pretty much one sitting.

Yeah me too mate. But I had to reboot 2 times.

The interweb forums talk about if one connection goes a bit pete tong, it slows the frame rate on all machines to stay in sync. That's why the host machine fps drops too.

        Who knows!

Had a day off yesterday and done a Skull/Marathon Man run-through and got the lot, finally. Legendary and Meta left to go.

UT was all about shooting - circle strafing and all the usual tactics.

The basic Halo formula (the infamous 30 seconds of fun) is a mixture of shields + shooting + grenades + melee which combine in an amazing way that equal more than the sum of their parts and has yet to be matched.
Its all horses for courses again. Quite often the shield is just another health bar. Someone will die and then its a matter of waiting for the regeneration. I personally prefer the knowing the level and edge of the seat factor of looking for health packs rather than hiding in a corner. Ultimately its all down to preference. The shield is also adopted in newer games, as other mechanics are, because Halo is a very popular and accesible game. So as is with the games industry, every other developer thinks that unless they do the same, their game will fail.

In my experience so far the tactics are pretty much the same. Strafe and shoot and lob a grenade if you have one. Thats simplifying it as it is to suggest that thats all that UT offered as well but everyone I've played with and against so far seem to do the same thing. I'm sure its not at your level of play from the sound of it, but its really really hard to spot the differences. Melee as you say is really the only fundimental difference I have noticed and most of the other extra's are just fluff.

I'm not knocking the multiplayer game. Its fun, and thats all that counts. All I am saying is that in my experience, the differences are not enough to warrent the fervor that you read on forums and in the press. I'm much more impressed with the way it all comes together in the package.

              That's an argument?

You state where has Halo changed things, people reply with reasonable points and you reply 'its (sic) all horses for courses again'.

If the shield was such a non-issue as you suggest, why have soooo many other games adopted it? Why do so many other people on this thread agree that it makes a difference? Why do so many people who have experienced PC FPS love the Halo mechanic? The common denominator against it seems to be you.

You previously said that the melee in Halo was no different and now you seemed to have finally backed down on that argument. You say you find it hard to spot the differences, I suggest you just aren't looking in order to support your (fairly weak) argument. It just comes across as snobbery.

                      HAHAH That's mint!

Me and Raggen where playing last night and he had printed out text descriptions, but then found that we were missing a page!

Raggen: OK, find the gravity lift, as we will need that for later.
C_S: Cool, here it is. What next?
Raggen: Ermmm. That was the last line on the page.
                      C_S: Doh!

I bow to Jebus and his Ipod skills, that is uber pointage at it's best and should be applauded!

That one took me a few tries before it suddenly dawned on me to

chuck the Gravity Lift up a level, then jump onto it. Doh!

The thing I liked about the Skull run-through was being able to jump in and out of levels, so it only really took a few hours to do rather than playing through the entire Campaign from beginning to end.

A tad geeky on my behalf though doncha think In truth I found a program (free) that converts anything movie based to ipod format (and it works superbly, watched a full simpsons episode yesterday!), and the halo 3 skulls vid was hanging around on my desktop so I tried it (only 10 mins long too) as my test...it worked then I though "Hmm what a good idea!!"

Regarding the skulls though, in co-op if you both DON'T have the achievement, did I read correctly somewhere that if I picked the skull up, we both get the achievement?

                            Geeky is good.

When Raggen picked up a silver skull, the achievement popped up on my screen too, so I guess that is correct.

Halo 3 isnt revolutionary, even on consoles it isnt, and the reason I compared you to PC zone was becuase like their writers you were almost talking down to console gamers by saying "Halo 3 is revolutionary for console gamers". I dont know if you meant too, but you came across as thinking yourself superior for playing shooters on the PC, you still clearly are taking the same tone in this post too. You also say Halo 3's impact is huge for console gamers... this is also untrue, especialy considering the fact that its so "uninspired" as you noted. Halo was an important console game, it was an important game in general, Halo 3 is just a great one.

Anyway I stand by my opinion that Halo 3 still has better gameplay than any PC first person shooter since half life 2... maybe its not the most inspired thing ever, but as someone who loves purely brilliant gameplay I personaly have to love it. I dont even play multiplayer shooters often by the way, this is me talking soley about the quality of its campaign.
I've had the reverse experience with the single player. On the easiest settings its pretty much a run and gun. Heroic and Legendary offer more tactical options, but often on those levels it can be a frustrating routine of picking off powerful snipers/enemies, waiting for shield, scavanging for ammo, picking off enemies, waiting for shield, scavange for ammo add nausium. There are quite a few areas of the game also where you have to die, quite a lot, that has nothing to do with clever AI. Its designed that way and often involves you just continually restarting until you get relatively lucky. The middle part of the single player game was immense fun and the levels paced well and flowed beautifully though.

Overall though the poorly written story, badly designed levels at the start and end and the frustrations stated above, for me puts its a fair way from the likes of Half Life 1 and 2 (on the 360 also) and more recently games like Stalker. This is all just imo. I do think it deserved its 10 marks it got because of what it achieves overall, especially in the ease of the multiplayer options and front end.

I think you are being a bit over defensive with the PC Zone thing, seemingly because I am daring to not like Halo as much as I am supposed to. If I thought it was great I would happily say so. I do apologise though if my attitude came across as such.
