Yes, they work and they're much better set up than PGR3. It's done on day by day. So every day has a qualifying which ends at about 6pm and then the knockout races happen from then on. There's loads of different brackets too with hundreds of people able to qualify.

Yeah - this tourney seemed at least possible, unlike the PGR3 ones...

Er, I don't believe I've just read this

Was wondering if anyone could advise me of something. Ive just started Arcade mode and earned a Platinum medal on the first challenge. However every time it then tries to update xbox live (with stats presumably), there seems to be a glitch which results in an error message saying that the task could not be completed. At which point I'm kicked out of Arcade Mode and returned back to the title screen. The result being that I can never move on with my platinum medal for that first event. This is incredibly annoying. Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this?

I think live is a bit skewy tonight - I was playing Boom Boom Rocket and it couldn't update to the leaderboards - best advice is disconnect from live and play it !

(Having said that I was playing PGR4 earlier and it was fine !)

I'll give that a go. Bloody frustrating as I ended up finishing first on the next race and same thing happened. I've lost all that work I put in!

Fantastic racer though. Love the way it eggs you on to keep doing better.

It's weird - was playing this for the first time last night - veteran of PGR2 and a horrid amount of hours put into PGR3. So far i'm not too happy with the driving views. In car feels really dark and obstructed - i know PGR3 had this in some vehicles but it was a joy to play sat in the cockpit - this time around it doesn't seem as good. On the bonnet i end up getting confused due to the shiney nature of the bonnet scrolling a reflection texture over it when I turn so end up over-turning. I've settled on the low down with dials view though i'd much prefer the same view as the on bonnet but with no bonnet with dials in its place if you get me.

Starting out i've really not liked the control in most races - felt very sluggish and non responsive compared to the twitchy throw it around nature of PGR3 . All of a sudden last night I got to use the TVR and it suddenly felt a lot more like PGR3 with tight control and responsive breaks/control although this may just be down to PGR3 was purely supercars really and all of a sudden i'm using a supercar so this is the way it should feel - a big step up.

Only played the career mode so far which has been slightly confusing where i'm not allowed to retry races etc .. I guess I can try them again when the year rolls around ?

Yes, you can try the same tournaments again in the next season (or try a higher-rated one if your rank allows). You'll probably need to complete about 3 seasons before you reach No.1 Rank.

The Arcade mode has taken the place of the traditional "retry until you get a platinum" from previous PGRs.

I initially thought this better than PGR3 but recently I never see more than a couple of people on my friend's list playing it at any one time whilst there are usually at least a dozen people on my friend's list playing PGR3 and, I have to agree with them, the third installment is a much better game.

Have to say, the 1st evening I played PGR4 I had the same feeling of thinking that PGR3 was more fun... but after I got to the more decent cars (from C and up) that great feeling from PGR3 came back and it got even better !

It is a shame though that this doesn´t get played so much online as PGR3 back in it´s day.... but I can understand why.... with all these amazing games that have been released lately everybody seems to be playing `something else` ....

Oh , if you **** it up in career mode, you have to restart while still being in the race.

I think one of the reasons why is that they made it too easy to earn the achievements. I had to play PGR3 for months to finish it, but it was pretty-much all over inside a fortnight with PGR4.

The difficulty is certainly ramped up compared to PGR3 - was playing the arcade mode last night trying to do my usual get all golds .. got to the third set and the final race - i think it was Final Countdown and the race was Breakthrough where it was one of the go through x checkpoints before time runs out - i was doing it for about an hour and a half - always like a fraction of a second off - never been so livid at PGR in my life Then suddenly at 1 in the morning I nailed it with like 2/3 seconds to spare :/

My old 360 died just as this game got released. I have a new machine now, so I've been playing PGR4 for nearly a week.

The visuals are more refined than PGR3. There are more details: scenary, flags, etc... The framerate feels better, with smooter control.

I'm really enjoying the new cities. Macau is absolutely brilliant. The routes are like something from a Sega arcade machine: fast and full of thrills.

Quebec reminds me of Edinburgh. It's very ambient, looks great, and plays well.

I'm not a big fan of the bikes, but my friends seem to like using them, and they're not bad once you get used to them.

With the nice variety of weather effects as a bonus, the overall package is excellent. It may not feel overly fresh, but it's very solid, and by far my favourite racer for the 360.

We had a nice online meeting last saturday with this game, I almost forgot how ****ing brilliant it looks, what still impresses me most though that it really gives you an fantastic sensation of speed (cockpit view) !

Macau is brilliant, steterburg is also a great addition, I have to say I´ve hardly touched Shanghai....
I need to put some more time into this one, it´s massive to really learn the tracks..
