    That companion cube emote.

    DO WANT.

I need to play through Episode 2 still... The whole of the orange box really got released at a very bad personal time for me, so that, Halo 3 and PGR4 have had almost zero playtime.

Apparently the Portal team are waiting to see how the game's received before they decide what they're doing next; Portal 2, multiplayer and map packs have all been considered, it seems. They keep mentioning the level editor's on the way, too.

Got round to playing the 360 version of Portal last night. Couldn't stop playing it till I reached the end, normally I'm not one for puzzle games (anything with coloured blocks screws me up from the get go), but Portal just feels so effortless. The lack of any frustration (I only got badly stuck once near the end of level 18 and that was because I wasn't thinking laterally) makes the game a complete joy to play. It would be a crime if they didn't find a way to expand on it.

        As for Portal 2

It would be interesting to see what direction they could take the game in. Chell (I think that's her name), possibly survived that explosion at the end, which the song seems to imply. If they follow the same character then she's now sat in a Combine ruled world with a potentially powerful weapon. The fight with GLaDOS hints at how useful it could be, turning your opponents weapons against them for instance. But I can't imagine that the portal gun would work as well outside of the Lab Rat environment.

On the other hand, Chell seemed to be the only person left at Aperature Science, so even with GLaDOS alive and kicking, there would be no more volunteers for her to manipulate.

I could see Valve expanding Portal by fleshing it out with more puzzles, more strange dialogue from GLaDOS and maybe more subtle nods towards the character and background of Aperature. If they take it further than that then even better.

But yeah, basically, Portal 2 please Valve. Though lets face it, I'll probably own a Portal gun by the time Valve get round to releasing Portal 2

Can't wait to get cracking on Half Life 2 tonight, I've put off buying the game for 3 years because my aging PC wouldn't do it justice. I plan to sit and rinse through it when I get home from work tonight

Linky for the Portal end credits song:

HL2: Portal's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

Don't listen if you haven't clocked it. I'm getting funny looks listening to it in the office

There are many Monsters Inc. moments in it. You know the bit where he jumps down through a door and then ends up coming left->right through a door in Paris and but just falls ont he floor the right way up? "That was weird", Mike says or something. Made me laugh the first time I did it anyway... it's brilliant The whole game constantly makes me laugh so you'll be all right I reckon.

Too tired to look through the thread... Anyone got any opinions on the Half-Life 2 solo conversion for 360?

I am playing through it now mate and it looks lovely, a big improvement over the Xbox version. I know some people have issues with controls but I didn't have any problems whatsoever.

That's good to read after reading reviews saying about the graphics being not so good.

                  Just finished Portal.

What a game. What an absolutely blinding, blistering little game. Short but very sweet, just like cake.

                  *MAJOR Ending Spoilers*

The whole last level is just an amazing change of scenery and the excellent fight with the AI had me laughing like a loon.

I just loved the different parts of her psyche - the one that keeps asking all the questions and making comments

"Hey, you're the lady from the test!"
                  "Where are we going?"
"What's wrong with your legs?" - same thing I was wondering.
                  "What's through there?"
                  "Can anyone else smell burning?"

And the final one that just keeps snarling at you

Final song brought a real smile to my face. I don't think Shodan in System Shock has there been such a great female AI character. And there were sections which felt like I was playing `The Cube`.

Lovely ending, lovely tie in to the HL universe and plenty of room for them to expand it in the future. I really hope we see more of it in some capacity.

Right now this is one of my GOTY.

The main problem I keep hearing is that the d-pad selection of weapons is the worst thing

Spatial - couldn't agree more. Did you notice in the credits?

The Anger Sphere (the red, final orb) is voiced by Mike Patton.

Plus if you haven't played the commentary, you might not want to read this, but

they added the heelsprings because testers kept wondering how Chell could fall such long distances and take no damage.

And again, GLaDOS is amazing. Better than Shodan, in some ways - much as I love System Shock 1 and 2 I never felt that much sympathy for Shodan.

I had't noticed it was him - it was certainly on a par with the excellent work he did in

                        The Darkness

and it was only about 10 seconds of voice work

I'm going to play through the game and listen to the dev's commentary. It was a great feature in Episode 1 and I can't wait to listen to Portals

That's probably because how hit and miss the quality of the D-pad is from one 360 controller to the next. My wireless one is pretty useless in a couple of directions, whereas my two wired ones are quite responsive.
