I got to the competition planet and was promptly told 30 secs in that I needed a device that was on one of the previous planets I'd completed, at which point I took the disc out never to be played again.

Backtracking is one of my absolute pet hates and the fact that it didn't even tell me which of the planets I needed to go back to just hacked me off even more.

If it was just something I missed, then I would rather it would have made it clear that I needed it at one of the little robot shops instead of letting me go on and then have to go back to get it later.

You don't have access to all the weapons the first time you visit planets!

Think of it like Metroid or Zelda in that once your character develops new skills then you will be able to revisit earlier planets and will have access to areas that you didn't the first time.

Looks like I made the right decision then as I have no real desire to re-tread old ground, prehaps one of the primary reasons why the two titles you mentioned have always failed to drag me in.

Well to be fair you dont have to do any back tracking to finish the game, you only need to backtrack to find all the collectables. This is still by far the best PS3 exclusive so far imo, much more fun then Gears of Drake.

Just picked this up as a chill out game - first time i've played it on my Samsung 40" and already noticed a strange pixelation issue. Is mentioned in this article too : http://www.ripten.com/2007/10/16/rat...niac-responds/

            Weird stuff.

No, you don't. If you had read more closely, the message said that you need a device you haven't found yet. I know exactly where you mean, and you don't have it. You get it on another planet. And, all it leads to is a collectable. You don't have to go there at all to finish the game.

Anyway, this morning I finished my first play-through of the game, and GODDAM but it is amazing! The first couple of planets didn't do much for me, but once I got to Mukow, it really exploded. I found myself playing just so I could level up my weapons and find Gold Bolts and Blueprint pieces. Just so insanely fun. Once the credits were through I immediately started a second playing of the game. Luckily, you have all your weapons and gear, which you'll need, as the enemies are stronger too. Anyone who isn't playing this game is SO missing out.

Quite surprised at how much i'm enjoying this. It kinds feels like a shoot em up on foot .. if that makes sense.

Quick question regarding the PS2 Rachets:

Are they worth playing through too after playing this? I am still loving my sessions of PS2 gaming like Sly Racoon 2 etc (amazing game).

I think so, yeah. As good as this is, I don't think it's much better, obvious technical benefits aside, than the PS2 games.

EDIT: That sounds more negative than it's meant to be. Just meant that they're awesome, this is awesome. All Ratchet and Clank games are awesome.

Any tips on how to control those whirlwind things? I've got to a planet quite a bit into the game (whose name I have forgotten ). Quite early on, you get these armoured spiky wheels with enemies inside. The only way to stop them is to whirlwind them so they fall out and then you can twat them. But I'm having real trouble controlling the windy wotsit and keep getting killed - so...any tips please?

I just used the shock lance thing on those guys - I've used the whirlwinds on a few planets to clear massive rooms out - just make sure youre stationary and dont move the camera about or you totally lose it. Have to be quite careful with the motion control with those. Loosey Goosey.

Oh the shock thing works on them does it? Excellent, thanks. I think just before then, the Nanotech voice tells you to use the sixaxis to control the whirllygigs, implying that that is the weapon required. Thanks, I never was much cop with lateral thinking!!

Yup, I didn't use the Tornado Launcher at all throughout the game. Most weapons will actually take those down, but unless it has some serious destructive power then you'll actually have to aim between the 'wheels' while jumping over the incoming fire.

You tilt the controller to move the tornado.
