I can't imagine anyone couldn't love this game. I am a tired gamer. I am cynical, faults stare me in the face, games other people see as genius I see as being alright at best and it's probably been about ten years since I was truly amazed by a game.

I am truly amazed by this game.

I've got about ten stars now (completed the first batch of galaxies) and, though I could be speaking too soon (that's my cynical side), this could be one of the best games I have ever played. If not the best.

The whole package is stunning. The look is wonderful and brings me back to such beautifully designed games as Nights. The sound and music is gorgeous - I can't wait for an OST release. And the gameplay? Well, man, they didn't make it easy on themselves. Playing upside down half the time? Pointing at star bits as well as havin as much movement as Mario64? And we all know that 3D Mario games have been plagued with camera problems. This could have gone horribly wrong. But it didn't. It's a joy to play.

This game makes me feel like a kid. It's pure magic.

Quick question for people who know the score...Do you have to collect 100 coins on a level to get a star?

      Comment

no, but there are challenges where you have to collect purple coins on 15 of the levels. These only become avaliable after you finish the game the first time though.

Started playing this tonight and i've been grinning with childish glee, what a superbly crafted piece of gaming.

The little touches like the classic 1-2 music playing when you collect the little note things. It's left me with a giddy feeling in the stomach that no game has done for ages.

Exactly. The Mario touches that we all know and love have returned to delight our senses. Yes, gaming has moved to a new era of high def, and I love eye candy, but sometimes less really is more.......

As for Mario Galaxy. I think it is in a different league. Galaxy belongs next to Ocarina of Time, Mario 64 and all the other greats. Nintendo have a modern classic on their hands here. It is never anything less then an absolute joy to play.

My girlfriend - who loves the Wii but usually dislikes 'normal games' - has fallen in love with it too. I feel a little envious of her daughter tho, Chloe, this is her first proper Mario experience. Can you imagine playing this when you were five years old? My goodness... I wish i could go back to experience that.

I've played some Super Mario World with her (also just got her a Pink Yoshi teddy *smiles*) but we haven't played it properly. Galaxy though, she's been sitting there watching totally in awe, smiling, laughting and jumping in excitment. Heh, bless her. Makes my little heart jump it does.
Never a truer word said fella - that last bit put a smile on my face.
I look forward when I can see the same joy I feel on my kids face.

@ Mariomark - nice selection of quotes Sir.

Is there any point in beating the final Bowsers again after getting 120 stars? Something new in the end demo for example?

Up to 41 stars now. What a fantastic game.

                    Last night I was

trying to beat the rock boss in the ghost house galaxy, and the bloody thing whittled me down to my last life - after taking the full 6 energy bars. As I nailed it with a bead of sweat on my brow, I danced over to collect my star and save my game! Yes, I hadn't died

But as soon as it moved to the galaxy select screen I noticed that

a daredevil comet had hit the galaxy - needing the boss to be beaten again with one 1 power bar. Nightmare. Managed to get a 1-up via some star bits, died once then nailed it on one power bar.

Did anyone else get the same timing of the comet?

                    Just sheer gaming brilliance.

                    It was so good because

it's one of the longer lasting Ninty bosses I've encountered in a while, then it ramps up the challenge just as you think you're safe.

                    Superb.

Yes, this is pretty much the best thing.

How many people can possibly mention the music lol, im another, great.

DJ Jim bob - yeah I had exactly the same comet last night!

Twas excellent. Put it this way - it took me a fair few attempts but once I was more patient and critical of his attack patterns I smashed his face in. Love that stage!

P.S Exactly the same happened to me at the start as well!

A 2-disc OST is coming january apparently. That will be a must-buy.

A friend sorted me out with the Galaxy OST and it's been playing for the last few days on loop. So good!

It doesn't seem to be out yet but looking around it looks like some people ripped the 41 tracks direct from the gamedata ..crazoy.

Will definitely buy the CD as soon as it's out.

Now, can i hold off playing more today so it lasts longer ? Pah - no chance.

                                dropped you a PM dogg.

I managed to clear all the

green trial stars all on one life last night - absolutely in the zone. The monkey ball esque levels simple show how tight and absolute pin point the wii controls can be for a game like that and god the second manta ray type level - Just kept thinking of the original Waverace

                                . Amazing.
