    toy Luigi

even possible? I can't figure it out for the life of me.

    Guide if you want it.

You need to do a loop around the outside (but go inland when you can to collect coins) as the star appears back where you started.

First you need to go right, take a long jump over to the nearest long column of coins. Get to the end of the first line and collect the few coins there and you need to make a return journey along the second line of coins. You'll have to rotate the camera before you start the second line so everything is lined up. It's okay to pause on the disappearing block for a few seconds, the collision mesh is only taken away after the block has completely shrunk.
Then just make your way around (right all the way) until you get back to the start.

I personally found it easier to jump on the swinging block instead of running.

      Luigi purple coins

I've been slowly making my way through the purple coin stages. I can tell some of these are going to be tricky later on...

Been hammering this and up to 97 stars but am now finding it really tough, especially the purple coin stages which, if I'm honest, I find rather a chore, especially the stages that need to be searched from top to bottom.

One aspect of the game I take serious issue with, and one I'm surprised more people aren't moaning about, is the camera system. The fact the pan controls are locked for the majority of the game has spelt many a needless death, and I find the lack of zoom controls something of an oversight, especially after recently playing Mario 64 with it's near-perfect camera system.

I'm enjoying the purple coin challenges for two reasons,..The timed ones are fast and require a bit of skill, although some are easier than others.

The non timed give you a chance to explore the stage fully for the most part to collect all the coins.

Let me get this straight; I... dislike Mario, okay? One of the worst character designs I've ever seen, bland and unappealing, and I generally find the Mushroom Kingdom about as interesting as I do my five-year-old cousin's doodles, which is to say not that much. Don't get me wrong - I appreciate SM64's place as the dawn of a new era, the mastery evident in just about all of its layout and mechanics, I've played my fair share of Mario Kart, so on, so forth. I just don't like Mario.

But this game oh God oh God oh God. It's frightening, sometimes, just how close to perfect it is. I bought the relevant issue of Edge at work today and their review tipped me over the edge; purchased the game after work, had it straight in when I got home and inside thirty seconds was giggling like a small child (hoovering up star bits). I haven't slept more than a few hours in days (stress from work), I've got in from a night out, tired, sweaty, hungover but right now I just can't stop playing the bloody thing. It's utterly astonishing. Not without its small frustrations - camera issues, the odd time when the Wii controls don't do their job or could have been handled better (ray surfing's not much fun) - but my God when this game is on form it reduces me to absolute helpless incoherent squeaks of joy. I'm being completely literal here.

Peerless, pretty much peerless. Amazing stuff. Candidate for Game of the Year, no question. Titles like Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect are simply not in the same league, and I'm speaking as someone who feels very strongly Altair is a king badass par excellence, and also who, well... still doesn't like Mario.

That's me, those are almost exactly my thoughts on this whole affair.

Yeah I haven't given this nearly enough airtime (been keeping it for when my son is over) - we've just got to the water planet and by Christ it's just amazing how everything is so damn perfect.

First time I jumped, grabbed the rope and realised just HOW amazingly they'd implemented it I was grinning (again) like a loony.

Edge should've just gone balls out and given it 11/10.

                          I'm up to the

                          Battlerock 100 purple coin challenge.

It's quite frustrating, all told. It appears you have to collect every single coin along the course (including those on the electric barriers, so if you miss one, you need to reset, which takes you back to the observatory.

Immensely annoying in the extreme. This is the only part of the game I haven't enjoyed much so far.

I loved doing that one! It's a real backflip challenge one and tests Mario's abilities, something which, up to now, hasn't really been done all that much.

Did that one on my 3rd attempt

It was Luigis purple coin challenge

That took me about 30 efforts!

You don't need to go back to the observatory Ady, just kill yourself and you'll just go back to the start.
