Aaah right. Maybe then. I wouldn't know personally, as I have an assistant who collects starbits and suns enemies for me on second wiimote

      Lazy!

I've never had a problem with the pointing controls because I play from my bed - meaning I'm always lying down with my remote arm rested on the bed.

...the collecting and shooting of starbits and the ball/ray riding (the latter of which I found dreadful) played second fiddle to the platforming and I could certainly omit them without regret.
I loved the ball riding levels. I hoped for more of them. If they released a Mario game entirely of those levels, I would buy it instantly! I think it would lose something on a normal controller. Even the spin move. If the spin was mapped to a "B" button it'd be so much worse than a little shake, it feels so natural and gives the controls a more <something> feel. There's a word I want to use but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

Me too. One of the things I found really odd was how they came up with some great tricks and barely used them. I mean, the rope swinging mechanic was stunning and I think it was only used in one level. The ball - just three. Ray surfing just two.

In a way it was great in that nothing was overused at all but it did have me gagging for more.

Yeah, I suspected I was in the minority on the pointing thing.

As for ball riding, I didn't mind it. I thought it incredibly difficult but kinda fun and, admittedly, it created a sense of tension and provided a test of nerve that a standard controller just couldn't fashion. The ray riding, on the other hand, I hated. I never felt in control for even a second.

I didn't enjoy the ray riding either - why not just use the analogue stick?
The ball riding was very good though. A whole game can be made out of that. And the bubble blowing game as well. I would be happy with a game of that.

I felt the controls in general were really good apart from the swimming. The spin attack felt right as a shake of the remote and the star pointer bits were unneccesary but add to the fun and feeling of immersion. And definitely add to the game - for example i played a level yesterday when i was constantly moving with the stick (and A button) and shooting enemies at the same time.

The ray riding was problematic due to the course more than the controls though. If it wasn't so bouncy at speed the controls would have been spot on

i found the ray far easier to control when i held the controller overhand rather than underhand

That sounds like it would actually work for some strange reason

it does, you have better range of twisting motion (or i do anyway)

also worked on super monkey ball on the wii too.

Anyone else but me notice that the twinkles on the cover art letters spell out:
                        "U R MR GAY"?

haha ok, I've been under an MMORPG shaped rock again though so can be let off.

Just need to get my amp fixed (still) now and I'm all ready for a Mario+Metroid Chrimbex.

Finally managed 120 stars, after about a week's hiatus. Those

                              purple coin challenges

can really provoke the worst person in me

I'm on 113 stars right now with

                                just purple stars

left to go. Wow do my hands ache. Simple mistakes keep letting me down at the last moment a little to often.
