I think the enemy (don't read on if you ain't finished it)

is nearly always one step ahead of you in this game, hence when you finally find the treasure

You've a fair way to go, but personally this is hands down my favourite game this year.

My one small complaint would be that there's a little too much combat (I say that for virtually all action adventure games. Less shooty more jumpy I say!), but when it's so well done it really is a very small complaint.

I would agree kinda...a bit too much combat, not enough jumpy puzzlage.

That was my problem with the game. Anyone tried it on Crushing difficulty yet? I played through it and found some of the shoot outs highly frustrating

The good thing is though that the combat is just wonderful, really really enjoyable. At first I found it a little irritating cos I couldn't get shots, then I realised it's just realistic and you aren't able to crack heads in a 1 vs 8 firefight.

The AI also (I feel) deserves a special mention. The way the duck, bob and weave (they don't want to lose their heads!) and the way 2 will take you on head first only to leave one flanking up round your side.

Really wonderful game, probably in my top 5 of the year!

Nope. Did it on hard the other day but it won't let me play it through on crushing unless I select the various chapters.

Just finished this, didn't rate the demo but picked it up anyway. It's really suprised me, what a great game! I'd echo others that it could have been even better if the adventure/combat mix was more towards the adventure.

Still loved every minute of it though.

I'm guessing you're on chapter 21 or just about to start 22?

                        DO IT!!!

Seriously, it's the only game I've played through more than twice in the whole of 2007 and I'm about to make it 4 times over the next week.

I agree, brings back those original Tomb Raider feelings again only with the added big budget movie quality cinematic goodness in between its levels.

Best PS3 game so far without a doubt.

                            Yeah, Superfamifreak, the

                            last showdown.

                            ..!

Your absolutely right aswell, i feel like starting it again tomorrow... It's good fun !

Another nice thing about the game, is it's one of a few games i've played. Where you don't want to hit a button to skip the cut scenes. They merge in so well...

I must be blind ? Is it me or did this game not even make EuroGamer's top 50 !

Its number 14 on there by the looks of it.

Like most people here, playing through this right now and finding it immensely enjoyable.

I do think there is more of a skew towards the combat than the 'adventuring' but I don't actually mind that as I find the combat so enjoyable. The fact that you are not a tooled up marine, thereby forcing you to scrabble around the areas salvaging whatever weapons you find, works really well and the areas are often designed so that you are required to leave the safety of cover to dart across to the next pillar/wall grabbing the weapons that lie in between, all the while dodging the incoming shots. Really exhilerating stuff.

I enjoyed the later battles where some of them use

laser sights to track you. Again, the game encourages you to pop out from cover, and you use their sight to locate their position before returning fire yourself.

The enemy AI deserves praise. Flushing you out of cover with grenades, distracting you whilst one of them flanks you and even reacting to gunfire and bobbing and weaving to dodge your shots instead of soaking up the bullets for you.

My only real complaints are the game length. Appears I'm close to the end now after 9 hours of play and I really could have gone for another 5 hours easily.

Also, the section where it went a little

survival-horror seemed a bit jarring. Traipsing down darkened corridors relying on only my flashlight (technically impressive that it was) whilst fighting some skinless monsters felt a little too Silent Hill and the music even sounded like an homage to Resident Evil 2

                                .

Overall though definitely the PS3's first AAA game (R&C was close but not quite for me) and highly recommended. Will definitely give it another playthrough but will wait until I have a Dual Shock 3 to hand.
