I never once used the chaff grenade, it must have been an afterthought. I think i only ever picked up one set of them.

I think they're specifically included as a bit of a reference to

the first game - hence the limited supply like it's a left over box from Snake's first outing on Shadow Moses.

I knew they certainly came in handy for me in some parts there.

Was there any security camera's in the game? I tried using chaffs against the
but altho i think it may have done something it was better just to shoot them.

Finished a no-alert run today and got the stealth camo unlocked. Don't think i got any other bonus items tho except some tasty drebin points.

Just to be clear tho can somebody explain to me how to start up a new game without deleting over my previous save file? I'll be extra cautious using diff save files though anyway as I have teh fear.

Just finished Act 2 with just under 10 hrs on the clock. Really savouring this.

End of Act 2's cutscene was awesome

It took me 20 hours 52 mins all the way thro you must be savoring it

I did beat it in the end. Didn't take me as long as I was afraid it would, but that is one of the worst final boss battles I've ever played. Plus the ending was largely godawful - the whole sequence with

                Big Boss and Zero

could have been over in about three minutes or less and would have been far more effective. Sort of a nice answer to "What actually happens in the end?", though.

It's a very good game, and I'm pleased I sold my 360 and all my games for it. But it's not a great one. I'm sad longer, epic games have become a dying breed, but there's plenty of awful, awful things about MGS that deserve to be thrown out of the medium as soon as possible. Still, I did think many parts of it were utter genius and must get back to it for a second playthrough.

                  Nice one mate!

I'm still just after the Act 4 boss, won't finish it for a few more days though I think. Can't wait to get the stealth camo though and go for a no kills run.

To start a new game you just go to load game and load your last save that it asks you to do when you finish the game. This then counts as your second play through and when you save it will have a *1 to show you've finished it once already and I imagine it will go up *2, *3, etc! That way, all your previous weapons/items/points etc are saved in the one save file that you keep using for every completion!

But I have like 40 save files, create a new one almost every time incase one breaks or something and I lose the progress.

I doubt I could ever manage a no-alert playthrough, let alone a Big Boss playthrough. Be nice to collect all the weapons, though.

The chaffs made that act much easier. The one time I triggered an alert with the

                      Dwarf Geckos

I just dropped one and ran straight past them. Apparently there are some in a house somewhere in the first act, but I didn't see them.

Anyway, I just finished Act 4 and half of Act 5 (up to the

                      Screaming Mantis

fight - I'll finish it tomorrow when I'm not going to be watching cut-scenes until the wee hours), and I'm going to go against the popular opinion and say that I didn't think that much of Act 4. It was good for the

nostalgia and I loved some of the touches like the music when you reached the heliport and the ghostly voices

                      , but the

                      Dwarf Geckos

were annoying and not nearly as good as

                      hiding from humans

. I suppose in the context of what was happening you could only have

FROGs, who wouldn't work in the same way as normal PMC guards

anyway, but it still made things annoying for me.

                      Still, like I said yesterday,

                      Crying Wolf

                      was a great boss.

                      Raging Raven

has been my favourite so far, but that was a close second. I do love a good Metal Gear

                      sniper battle

                      .

The end of the act was pretty good, though, even if I have a hard time believing that

Raiden could stop a bloody great Arsenal Gear and survive. How could Vamp give him such a kicking but he can stop that thing with one arm

                      !?

Anyway, no more talk until I finish!

The § Dwarf Geckos § are the worst thing in the game imoh

                          Pretty much.

Chaff grenades are no good because there is only a handful in the whole game, you can't tranq or CQC them, shooting them out is impractical when there are loads of them around, and if you're trying to be sneaky you can have 99% camo (the maximum as far as I know) but the bloody beams will still spot you. They seemed inconsistent about whether or not they could see you when hanging from the platforms they were on as well, which is how I'd been avoiding them on catwalks.

Still, I liked the big Gekkos. They were threatening and dangerous enough that you'd give them a wide berth, but certainly not invincible if you did have to take them on. The bloody things scared me a couple of times as well, like

that one that pops out of the snow where the tank battle was in MGS1 and the one that drops from the ceiling shortly before REX

. Plus how can you not like a killer robot... that moos?

Just finished this, Kojima really managed to give Snake a fitting farewell I think. I'm impressed how he managed to tie everything together in a somewhat plausible way, though it does make you wonder how much of this did he already have in mind when making the previous games?

None at all I reckon. I played Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake the other night...

at the end, Big Boss dies by flamethrower, burns to a crisp then explodes into nothing. I really don't understand how he was resurrected for MGS4.

                                Yeah,

that scene kept draggin on, and it defeated the whole point of MGS4: the suicide of Snake to end it all. Everything goes back to zero... yeah I got the point after the 1st time.

MGS4 is a great game, from about every standpoint except gameplay. The gameplay sucks imo. I sometimes stood up while I wanted to crawl, I climbed a box while I wanted to press against it, didn't hold up while I wanted, CQC sometimes went on to become a push... Why havin to hold triangle for dragging, then press left stick to move and right stick for the camera? Trust me, these errors are easy to get and DEADLY on Big Boss Extreme. Then the shoot em up gameplay, it was good enough (except for pop out and shoot which takes 5 seconds) but the AI of the shootouts was bad, how can the Frogs battle be epic anyhow? Diving into needless menus (just to heal or use a damn item you just grabbed), selecting a big ass barrel out of a menu... sigh. While the AI is decent when it comes to spotting you. And its still a game being made out of small battlefields, if you leave one... the enemies won't chase you. The game has more last-gen aspects than needed.

Again, IGN etc are not trustworthy, how can man give this game a 10 for the gameplay? For sound, presentation, lastability.. ok.. but not for this aged gameplay. Impossible.

Maybe its better for Hideo to do what he does now: stepping back, he simply didn't nail the gameplay of this series imo. Either not skilled, or relying too much on nostalgia.
