Silly question, do you get the same scene with just a sixaxis controller? (Maybe on my next playthrough I'll use a sixaxis and see what happens)

If you use Sixaxis, he says

WHAT? NO VIBRATION EITHER! then you get Naomi saying 'No more massages for you then.' from MGS1, press X you get picture of MGS Codec and then someone with a dual shock on thier neck, then he simply vanishes. But im sure you hear The Sorrow when he floats away.

regarding the No Kill run through -

Do you have to tranq the first form of the beauties before you tranq the second form?

          Comment

            No kill answer.

You can kill Beast form with normal weapons apparently and it doesnt count as a kill, only the beauty counts as kill so you need to tranq them.

I finally settled down to this yesterday after numerous restarts to get used to controls again (I forget easily). First thing I had to remember was MGS isnt some FPS shooter, controls are much better for that than they used to be but again I got abit tetchy when I was crouched down behind say a wall and he wouldnt bob out to shoot em (so crouch button to stand fire then crouch again or is their another way to get him to pop up). Once Id got over that and decided to play it properly and stealth my way in with no kills by god did the tension and the atmos go right up with the great new camoflage system. I settled into the controls finally blinked and did a save and realised 1hour and 42mins on the save had gone past, couldnt believe that as felt like 20mins, checked the clock and yes it was right.

I kept doing a part over and over getting used to it for sneaking etc.. and different way and got up to the oil drum and finished part way thru first big multiple cutscene fight and Ive been left breathless by it all (wondering if they count as kills though maybe I should redo and try tranq?). Ive spent over 5hours getting to that bit and I could do all that bit all day long even though I know its a tiny bit of the game. Find it a engrossing experience and can finally stop panicking that I would be let down by it and play the damn thing. Also suprised how humerous it is.

              In a word "incredible"

i'm enjoing the cutscenes more than the gameplay. i'm in the middle of act 3 now and have just wasted a few hours with a frustrating and badly designed sneaking mission.

i think the gameplay, while being far from bad, is really hard to enjoy. it gets too frequently interrupted by cutscenes and the actions and style of play you take feel kind of pointless in the greater context of the game's story and rules. the bossfights are setup nicely but pale in comparison to the predecessors so far.

I've started the no alerts run now, I'm still on act 1 and it's so damn tense!!

A couple of times I've been crawling up a street in the middle of a battle to find 2 or 3 PMCs come around the corner and stand within inches of where I am lying with my 99% camo. I find that I seem to be really holding my breath when that happens just so they don't hear me!!

                  My new hobby is

sneaking around and putting people to sleep with my sniper rifle.

Is there any way to stop the vehicles without killing people or do I just have to avoid them?

I think thats why I kept restarting Uli and doing the same bits over to get used to the style again. Its that thing of Im breaking the game and not playing it right like I used to get on MGS series (on 1 & 2 not got into 3 properly) of I can run past the area and trigger then next bit of story with alterting everyone and killing em but dont get the gratification or intense feeling of when I do it and sneak instead without being caught (and like last night freaking in terror as some guard walks inches past me without spotting me). Ive always found em clunky in play mechanics which is why it took me prob 5hours yesterday getting used to it but when I always click with it again like I have on 1 & 2 I always find it engrossing so much so Ive just rebought 2 substance on JPN PS2 so I can play it on my PS3 unit so I dont have to dig xbox out again (I lost my PS2 PAL version when I lent it out ).

John this no alerts run is this an option in game or just you deciding m8 as it suits my style more (and I know one of the earlier MGS had a instant fail screen for it its been ages since Ive played any other mgs though so cant remember which).

                    Comment

well, i think my main gripe is that there's no other gratification for playing the game in a certain way or style than the pleasure you take from it. i would have liked some real incentives this time around - like different cutscenes, endings or special items.

Is anyone sure exactly what was in the syringes?

                          Think about it:

Using them to suppress nanomachines should make everyone go a bit mental like at the end of Act 1, since they're not longer connected to SOP. Yet Snake and Naomi both use them to prevent those effects, which surely means they're doing the opposite. Naomi uses it throughout, and then uses it to kill herself by turning off the nanomachines that have been suppressing her cancer. Ignoring the fact that cancer killing someone that quickly is unlikely, how did suppressing them not kill her before?

And then, at the end when SOP is gone, Snake and Liquid both use them to revive each other for their little fight to the death. So they're suppressing nanomachines that no longer do anything? And how does suppressing nanomachines make them stronger?

Just seems a bit muddled to me. Like a lot of the story, then.

well, i guess if there is a way to use a flashlight then it's well hidden

it's kind of silly and, to be honest, a little disappointing that a game that pays so much attention to detail to all kinds of weapon tools and gadgets wont allow you to use a flashlight for its original purpose!

Uli, there are some items you get as a reward for doing various runs - no kill, no alerts, various combinations of kills, alerts, whatever. GameFAQs hasn't written the game up inside and out but they've got a list of all the emblems you can get awarded at the end and what items, if any, they give you.

                                I assumed that

sometimes people were suppressing the nanomachines they already had, sometimes they were injecting themselves/others with replacements/new ones. As in Naomi - when Snake meets her she's regularly injecting herself out of need (as he ends up doing - they're both dying, after all). Even with my contempt for Kojima's writing I can't believe he'd be so daft as to have missed that.
