    Rhythm tengoku gold JPN DS

Been hammering this for the past few hours, sort of mixed reactions it's great but it sometimes stuggles to be as good as the first one but these minor niggles are easily overlooked.

I was half hoping when i opened the box that it would have some cool stickers like the gba version but alas it didn't.

So far i have struggled to the 4th remix & let me tell you now my god this game is hard, a lot harder than the gba version. It may be that im out of practice but i was struggling to barely get a pass grade. The game has the same setup as the gba original, you play 4 stages & then do the remix. All controls are done with the touch screen & all involve either tapping the screen or using slide & flick movements, leftys will be relieved to hear that you can flip it.

The remixes don't have vocal songs like the gba version did, well none of the first 4 did but there are some levels where you do play along to a vocal song & some are great, theres one level called Idol where you have to do monkey clapping & chanting when you hear a certain phrase but so far theres no levels that require japanese reading, plus theres a tutorial at the beginning of each level that tells you what to do, it make take a few goes to work it out but once you do your sorted.

As you get ranks you get either a silver or gold frame, you get a gold for getting the high level rank. You also get given a medal for getting a gold frame & these are used to unlock the many extras, also making a return is the perfect P campaign. Get a perfect on the chosen level & get a certificate & unlock a secret (wink)

The first few levels seem a bit dull but bear with it as they improve as you get further in, theres new characters in this game but also some from the previous game return as playable & as cameos. Some of my favourite new levels so far are....The monkey chanting idol level, the level where you flick dumplings into your mouth, the love potion mixing level & the one where you pick the vegetables from the first game (sadly you can't pluck them)

The cafe from the first game makes a return & in here you can read letters, listen to the sound test as you unlock songs, replay the beginning tutorial & talk to the owner of the cafe & if your doing pretty crap at a game he sometimes unlocks the next one for you so you can progress.

In the medal section theres lots of new unlockables that can be accessed by getting medals in the main game, theres a section called endless games. The only game i tried in there was coin toss where you have to flip & catch a coin, it takes 3 seconds to land but the computer removes the helping clicks so you have to rely on your own timing. The other section is called rhythm toys & has some amusing warioware style useless thingys to play with, finally theres no drum lessons this time round instead you have the guitar to work on, not unlocked any of that yet so something to look forward to.

So far so good, can't wait to see what mixes & levels are next.

Sounds good, I suppose you wouldn't know whether the translation will lose any of it's charm?

Just a friendly warning, this game is RPG text heavy, not an ounce of English either

I am struggling to get past the first game on mix 2 as i am not clear on the controls.

      Its the Ping Pong game.

The game is amazing but it doesn't hold the same charm the first one did.

I love the new extra touch screen functionality, it works really well with the added movements to perform moves. I'm on column 6 and i've hit a stumbling block, but with some mad skillz i'll pull through. If anyone can get translation screens for the menus that'd be amazing

Thoroughly enjoying this, never played the first one so this seems extremely charming albeit rock hard to me. It can take a while to work out the games but it seems theres only three different touch controls so far: tap, flick and holding the stylus down. By trying these three moves I have managed to work my way to column 3. I can't help but feel, though, that I'm missing a lot. For example what do the letters say?

I was stuck on this one too. You just have to flick the stylus up the touch screen in order to swing the paddle, but you have to swing in time with the beats. I found it easier to count the beats and swing when I needed rather then watching the screen.

What on earth do you have to do with the chap with a basket on his back with the plants and moles?

I've had no problems with language really, up to mix 3. Game's not as good as the original though, probably partly because it's not as "new" now.
For the man with the basket tap to kick the plants up, then slide up to hit them into the basket.
Tap and slide quickly to bash the moles away.

All the games are just tap, slide, hold, and it's always about the sound and not what's going on with the pictures really. For table tennis the hard shot to return is the fast one but it makes a noise before one comes.

If you lot are struggling now wait till you get to the 6th remix, theres a lot of levels that are really hard, one in particular involves a black & white man where you have to hit the screen on the beat for white & off the beat for black, its incredibly hard & took me nearly my whole lunch hour today to clear it.

The text isn't that bad, it's no worse than the first game, one thing thats going to be interesting when it comes out in america is what they are going to do with all the japanese songs as some of them wont work in english, wonder if they will just remove them & put in new games or record an english song?

Maybe they'll just record something new. For all the Wariowares they just translated the songs didn't they? Is that not possible with these ones?

The black and white guys game was super hard but very very cool to play.

                          This game is stupidly good

Anyone figured out if/how you can put it in left handed mode? Also what do the orange symbols represent when you first create a save?

The very first screen (the one where you have to flick the disk to get to the menu), if you press the blue button at the top and press the left option (I think) that puts it in left hand mode.

I think some of the NTSC-uk team are putting together a translation guide for this at the moment. (Sorry if I wasn't supposed to reveal that)
