    Am I missing something here?!

The game isn't just a level editor, it has a single player campaign too. I think the fact that the level editor is getting so much attention (cos it is brilliantly deep) people are forgetting you actually don't HAVE to create levels. You can just play the game if that what you really want to do. If the tutorial levels and stuff I have seen (and heard about) online are anything to go by the single player stuff should be a load of fun too.

Its still the best thing ever. I haven't picked many games up on release the last few months...but I will be with LBP.

The review in OPS focused alot on the creation side of things. I personally love other peoples creativity.

There was a topic on gamefaqs and someone had created a stage about his upbringing, and the bubble text that popped up told a story and it was very touching.

      So much scope!

To me, it's not a "game" as such because it's just lots of seperate levels that have no bearing on each other. All just random stuff one after the other, lots of mini games as such.

Looks like the BETA is now closed. Tried to fire it up a second ago and it said that the content had "expired" the 24th cant come quick enough!!

Well, now that it's over I have some impressions. I believe that LBP is really good. However, after playing it for some time i've realised that I can see myself getting tired of it quicker than most other games coming out before Christmas.

It's amazingly charming and a joy to play aswell as the user content that is (and will be) created for it. But I feel there's only so long I could go through the single player; user maps and making my own levels. As well as going through all the community content. It's all brilliant but I'd rather use Far Cry2's level editor when it comes out as you're (in a way) more free than being stuck on a 2D plane with 3 layers. and searching through endless amounts of maps will eventually bore me. Other than those points, it's really inventive levels from MM in the SP mode, and is a very fun platform game with bucketloads of charisma.

I wont be buying on release what with Fable 2 and Far Cry 2 on the same day, but I'll definately pick it up when it comes cheap and i've played all the other games I want to.

8/10 for the beta version from me.

I've pretty much decided to not bother at all with the level editor and play the single player game until I've more or less completed it.

That's not to say I'm not interested in doing my own stuff - I am very much & is a main reason for getting it, but I just want to see exactly how much there is of a single player game in there.

You make a box in Hammer with a lightsource and a couple of guns in it, you look like an idiot - if you slap together something in LBP in five minutes it still does at least look like you had fun doing it. There's something of the same sense of fun in even the most half-assed user-created content that there is in the official levels MM have slaved over, and I think that's a really clever little side-effect... whether or not they intended it to turn out that way. <shrugs> Just saying.

I read that the visual style was designed to celebrate imperfection. so yeah, that was definately a cunning and deliberate design choice

I hope all the tutorials are skippable/optional in the final game.

I'll be playing as much of single player as I can first to get it out of the way (not that i wont enjoy it) but mainly to unlock everything i can to start making stuff with. I don't wanna spend ages making a big level and then find some items and objects that woulda been useful or ace to put in at several points (I know I could edit them in but the level may or may not be designed so even inserting new objects could result in massive changes to the level layout or design) etc

Not to mention that you'll unlock a shedload of cool stuff playing through the single player levels.

                      30 second install

I'm playing the full game now (UK promo). It's almost exactly the same as the beta! So in other words, if you liked that, you'll like this. If on the other hand the beta failed to full that void inside where your soul should be, then I can't see this changing your mind

The first 3 levels are literally the same as the beta; the intro is the same. One of the levels may have slightly different lighting but really I'd have to compare side by side. There are new challenges almost immediately, and I'm now on level 4 so that's the first "new" level. The stickers and everything you collected in the beta levels are the same.

The only significant difference I can see, and I may even be wrong about that, is your character flies around in Create mode faster when you have the camera pulled back. Though that may because it's an empty map right now, and last time I was in Create mode I had a large map I was working on.

Can't connect online, the servers are off.

Your created levels on the HDD don't seem to carry over though I understand uploaded levels will work from beta to retail. No date is carried over from the beta at all - character design, collectables, etc. That means I'll have to do the create tutorials for a fourth time

So far, so good. Brilliant game, my first thoughts on the beta still stand. I read an MM article when the beta came out, and the game had gold, saying they'd already made some improvements that would be available from day 1 via a patch - that's not downloaded yet of course. DLC content works, I've got Kratos in the game - thanks sailor-fuku

I picked up the US version up today from a local indie. Never played the beta and only played the first 3 levels so far, and it's absolutely amazing!

I couldn't connect to the servers either... gave a 402 connection error when the game started and again when I tried to connect from the pod.

Is the screen shared in internet play like it's shared in local mp? (everybody has to advance in the same pace)

It was in the Beta, no doubt this is the same. The camera will pull back a certain amount, and if you get left behind you have 5 seconds to get back before you die.
