They are all from the 2 PSP games, hopefully classic tracks will be in the DLC.

So I have a few more of you on my friends list now... but I'm still all blank in the friend comparisons. Add to that the option to compare (Even to global) didn't appear for the first half an hour that I played tonight and I think it's fair to say they have some teething problems with the leaderboard systems.

Got a few golds and silvers on event five (Heatwave? I'm sure it's Heat-something)... and I think I might have a new darling for the slower time trial/speed lap events with Icarus.

EDIT: Also, the retro HUDS are horrible! Should have been retro+HD... ified.

Headrush, not Heat-something . Don't know if I'll be able to get past that one... it's the time trials that stop me cold. They basically translate to "Do three utterly perfect laps in succession, never touching the walls, never slowing down, taking every opportunity to barrel roll and hitting every speed boost" and I'm just not up to that. Speed laps I like, even with my lack of skill. And I can just about beat the AI on the races. Zone I can at least get bronze most times. But TT... oh, well. Knew I was never going to be able to complete the game, I guess.

EDIT: I like the Wip3out HUD, though I find the 2097 one unreadable most of the time, even when I've tried to remember the icons. Got "Thanks For The Memory", though, so I never have to use it again.

Yeah, there was a problem with that today 45, as not long after posting on here about my #1 on one of the tracks, it went down and wouldn't show me Global or Friends Records either.

The TT's are hard but given alot of room for error, usually like 4-5 seconds extra added to the time of 4 perfect laps in a row, if you know what I mean. So there is space for hitting walls and not being perfect racing all round, but still need to be 99% perfect.

I've golded everything so far in 5 events now without much that were too hard, so I'm glad I've managed this far this easily.

I played online with this for the first time last night and it worked rather well. Very like Pulse. Can you actually organise games within the PSN or is it just a case of looking out for people you know in that lobby?

I'll be on this evening if anyone wants to play (I'm not great but not atrocious either). My username is DoggThang.

yeah it's a shame the leaderboards are not working properly, I always like comparing laptimes to see what's possible and what ships other people are using, so far I use most of the time Assagai and sometimes Feisar.

I'm now halfway the 5th event, I hope that after 5 I won't have to race Venom class anymore, the difference of speed and most important the timing is a huge difference between Venom and Rapier.
Loving the TimeTrails, this is where you learn the track the best, they're not easy but also not too difficult. just about right.

Nah it's a very ****ty system that really should be improved. When we play, someone makes a lobby as friends only and sets it to the max amount of players to join, 7. Then sents messages to everyone via PSN friends list to tell them to join. You go to Online > Join > Filter > Friends only > SHAZAM! There they are.

It's just a pain organizing games when there's alot of people messaging you back and forward.

But in saying that, the actually game play online is sublime. No lagging at all so far while playing it and much better than racing against the AI, even though the AI are actually very good in this game.

May seem like an odd thing to point out, but the Time Trials and Speed Runs really make this game for me. In previous WipEout games, I never paid them much heed, and just concentrated on the races... but the Time Trials/Speed Runs really force you to learn the levels, make the best use of your boost, learning the best race patterns, training you to use the airbreaks properly so you can get that boost pad just around the corner... it's very fulfilling, and I'm becoming a better WipEout player because of it.

Times are the only things that I ever take any competitive interest in for racing games. I'd much prefer lap after lap trying to find the perfect line, correcting previous mistakes and looking to shave seconds off of my lap time.

I still remember with great fondness the night I spent on the GC version of BO2 'racing' against another forumite deep into the night. Each time one of us would beat the other and post a time, the other would then spend some time trying to break it.

Can't stand weapons or jostling, much prefer the pure racing experience.

Nah, couldn't live without weapons or jostling. I think of it as levelling the playing field, at least to some extent.

To a degree I don't know why they even bothered putting pilot assist in. I would be astounded if the game reached any sizeable, new, non-hardcore-gaming audience, really I would; again, I love it, but as far as I'm concerned it is and has for a long time been shockingly tough. If you can complete the game full stop you are much, much more than "not great" by default, to say nothing of golds on everything... but of course that's a whole other debate, one that's been kicking around the back of my mind since I first encountered the lunatics who thought GunValkyrie was a pleasant little ride with a beautiful, polished control system .

EDIT: A far, far more appropriate concession to newbies would have been to have an overall points total counting towards unlocks. As it is there's nothing other than personal motivation to gold everything.

I've sent requests to Number45 and Malc - although online seems to be a little broken at the moment (there's a message saying as much when you log in).

I assume all my scoreboard times are actually way behind, as according to my list only 3 people have finished the level 4 campaign races (no way). In actual races for some reason none of the hosts were starting the games.. got to assume it's because they couldn't and not cos they like pissing people off... also when racing I had some weirdness (my ship would unexpectedly double shift on a straight, and wanted to keep going to the right). It's the first signs of unstability though, been solid as a rock thus far.

I'm also starting to get to grips with the REAL handling, lol... I already improved on my assisted times on every class. Thank f**k.

I like both but flying solo and trying to get the best line etc. is what I really like. It was the only pleasure I got from Mario kart Wii as well. just trying to beat friends' best times.
