Took back that overhyped hacked game that is Fallout 3 and decided on this because of this thread, and the review on this site. All im reading is glowing impression. Have yet to have a playthrough but so far all reviews seem promising. It was this or Bioshock and i chose this. Cant wait to have a go, reading this thread is making me so excited. Just a quick question, Should i start out on highest difficuly setting since thats what i play through with Resident Evil or is it completely different?

& for the other view, I found that Normal was a perfect challenge for me, (Using the default level 1 suit) and I was happy with the difficultly spikes that happend.
If you can do Resi on hard, then I think Hard is the right choice for you.

But having said that Hard is much like the Professional difficulty on Resi 4, so if you enjoyed that more than normal I'd say go for hard.
I guess if you want a challange you can be also glad you bought this over Bioshock, as that game has none at all. Which makes Number45's statment about this being too easy on normal slightly odd, seeing as i know he loved Bioshock.Last edited by rmoxon; 18-11-2008, 11:41.

Thanks for the answers! Well i just finished a 3 hour session on the game and, im stunned. THIS GAME IS BRILLIANT!
First and foremost the atmosphere. People can go on about it all day but Fallout 3 just felt lifeless, and when you met a character they just seemed flat withere their constantly repeating one liners. This game scares the absolute **** outta me. Im not joking, the tension is amazing, and the game oozes atmosphere. Im in love and cant believe this was a backthrow title for me. Its amazing.
On the difficulty i did go for hard. And it is hard. Not so much the enemies or there numbers, but the fact that im have NEVER had more than 8 bullets in my inventory. Since i have never played it on medium i dont know the differences but ammo is short on hard.
rmoxon i think you are right, because i did think about whilst playing. I got stuck for around 20 minutes when i was
grabbing the data board from the room when about 6-7 come at you
and had 8 bullets, eventually i got it, but at that point it made me think, will this frustration get to me the whole game? But than on the flip side, its scaring the **** outta me BECAUSE i know i have less ammo and the tension is amazing, which is creating that feeling in my stomach. Talk about spoilt for choice
I will soldier on, but if i feel is stopping my love for the game i will just start afresh, but i think my countless Resi experiences are counting for something.
Anyway this game is superb, just finished Chapter 1, and my biggest love is how the game does not stop when accessing the menu. Trying to use a health pack while being chased is amazingly frightning. I could go on all day about how good this game is, and im only just finished Chapter 1!
Anyway time for some more play! Thanks guys!
EDIT: rmoxon funny story, i had no intentions of getting this. I went there with Bioshock in mind, with this as a back-up. But the copies they had (2 left) were unsealed and when i asked why, they said they had been returned, so i was like no thanks (yeah i know, but unlike some, i am super anal with my stuff, so whoever gets mine is lucky) and got this. But now i am so glad i did. Its amazing, and the graphics areBioshock will be next. Why is Bioshock no challenge though?

Also, you can use a health pack by just pressing X/square you know, you dont have to go to the menu.

LOL! Really? I'm such an idiotI was pissing myself legging it whilst trying to use a health pack. lol. Do i set that or just press square?
Yeah maybe you are right. I might give medium a quick whirl tomorrow and see what its like. But regardless you are right, this has been the first game in a LONG time to actually scare me. I found myself actually going sideways around corners to see if there is a monster there lol.''
EDIT: Just another question. This may be small, but does the PS3 version have to load trophies everytime i turn the game on? If so why? This is the only game that does that.Last edited by Cuber001; 18-11-2008, 12:09.

Its also worth pointing out that you shouldnt really carry any weapons that you arent planning to use much, as then you will generaly only find bullets for the weapons that you are carrying. On my first playthrough I had only really been using the Plasma Cutter and pulse rifle but kept finding ripper ammo, but then discovered that as soon as I sold my ripper I stopped finding ammo for it.Last edited by rmoxon; 18-11-2008, 12:14.

Also you can complete the game by just electruting most enemies and hitting them with the wrench which dosnet help either as you rarely need to use other weapons.Last edited by rmoxon; 18-11-2008, 12:22.

Oh ok, that seems really stupid. Like a no fail mode in Lego Star Wars or something. Weird. But i mean, at least the option is there now? I think i will hold off on Bioshock now though because i have Rock Band 2, CoD: WaW and this to tide me over for now. Not to mention i have not touched GTA4 yet as i was waiting for the trophy patch.. Maybe during Christmas when im on holidays i will get Bioshock. And Little Big Planet. So many good games!

If your stuck with ammo on hard at start check the green glowing boxes as you can stomp and melee them and they reveal ammo and drops. Also check every nuck and cranny like the toilets on each leve as theirs always more green boxes hiding.

You need to dip into the inventory for the stasis/air top-ups, but hitting square (And I guess whatever the equivalent is on the 360) will use the most appropriate health pack for the job.
As for Bioshock, I wouldn't say it isn't hard. It's just that all challenge is removed from the game if you use the vita-chambers. I did use them, but I didn't play the game as if they were there, if that makes sense (Because you could basically just admit defeat and save ammo/EVE rather than trying to stay alive when you feel you're beaten).
Bioshock didn't have me on the edge of my seat with "Oh my god I could die any minute" tension, it's just so well designed that I honestly didn't know what it was going to throw at me next.
EDIT: Yes, the option to disable the chambers is there.

EDIT2: With regards to normal being really easy. I upgraded the Plasma Cutter fully before touching anything else, so anything but the harder enemies go down in two hits maximum, meaning an almost constant surplus of ammo - this isn't the case on hard even with the weapon fully upgraded.Last edited by Number45; 18-11-2008, 14:04.

Been playing more of this over the last few days. I'm used to the game fully now, so the tension has lifted a little from the game as I can generally predict what the game is going to throw at me, but that doesn't stop me from loving it to bits.
I'm at chapter ten currently, still only used the Plasma Cutter (Which has made things a bitch in places!). Chapters five and nine are the standouts for me so far, because they introduce something new into the mix which ramps the fear factor right back up when you're getting used to the game.
If not for Bioshock, this would be my game of the year so far.

I got this yesterday, am only an hour or two in, but it's not grabbing me yet. It just feels a tad clumsy and, thus far, all I seem to be doing is running around the same set of corridors to fetch/fit missing pieces to broken machinery and running into the same monsters time and again. I'm gonna stick with it and can see it getting much better but when does it really start to pick up?
