Just tried it four times and couldn't do it. I was getting noticeably better, but it just wouldn't stop, and even the fourth go I was only on one or two percent left and he was still trumpeting "Nearly there! Just another minute!" for the umpteenth bloody time. It just felt horrible. Really had no sense I had the ability to precisely target the things at all.

Scraped through the turret, into Chapter 5. Still kicking my ass. Running from the
mad doctor and his invincible uber-Necromorph
- this kind of thing pisses me off to the extent that it's supremely cheesy ancient videogame mechanics, as bad as CoD 4...
oh, hey, the door won't open! I wonder if - should I run around fighting off infinite enemies and screaming for help for just enough time - techie chick will suddenly manage to get it unlocked? Oh, hey, sure she will! Isn't that nice?
but they're nowhere near as frustrating as the turret. They're doable, and the combat is basically a lot of fun, if flawed (the foot stomp's awful on Hard, it's so imprecise you're just leaving yourself far too open). Skill plays a large part, whereas the turret felt like luck.
And dear God, someone has to put together a Many Deaths Of Isaac. Poor guy. First the obvious attention to detail that went into his pain states (audio and visuals), and now this... getting torn to pieces by
the uber-Necromorph
was on the edge of being torture porn. Not quite all the way over-the-top, but deeply, deeply disturbing. I approve, I think, but I'm not sure I ever want to meet whoever at Redwood Shores came up with this stuff.
EDIT: And enough about me - yes, you can do multiple playthroughs. Not sure if there's any point other than maxing out, but I'm sure it's possible; your save even has a round counter (or at least I think that's what it is).

But anyway
you have to kill that guy once and then when he regenerates the door unlocks
. I belive its called "the old age video game ritual of challenging you before you can move on".Last edited by rmoxon; 26-10-2008, 00:24.

No, you misunderstand. I understood, and I don't mind that stuff that much, I just don't think the game sets it up as well as it could do. I mean, CoD never really made me think "Oh my goodness how come the enemy soldiers never stop coming you'd think they were infinite or something that's not realistic how sad is that?" - the game was set up well enough I never complained about it. With Dead Space, how come at some points Zach and Kendra know exactly where you are and what you're doing and talk to you the second you pick something up off a desk, yet when you're
stuck in a fight you can't win
, they won't say a word until you've proved how rock hard you are? Why isn't one of them telling you they'll
hack the door the second that thing appears, or at least when you walk near the door/try and open it?
I know it's nit-picking, and I know I go on about the tiniest little thing. Still, the game's really good, good enough lazy design like this really stands out for me, and I just focus on the tiny little things because it could have been been a nine or ten on my scale if they'd just got a bit less lazy and stopped leaving them in everywhere. <shrugs>

Picked this up yesterday, currently part way through Chapter 2 and I have to say it's pretty good. It reminds me a lot of Extermintion on the PS2. Sure it borrows a lot from other games, but it does it in a highly polished and fun way. I have encountered a glitch that caused me to fall out of a moving lift, but luckily I didn't have to track back too far.

Had a good ole long session on this last night, got through 6 chapters in 6 hours, about the longest I have actually sat down and played a game recently just really caught my attention.
Loving it so far, think I may have got to the ammo limit and possible may end up struggling from here on in though. The plot has been padding out nice and slowly, the interface/hud is very cool, only thing I am currently fearing is the possiblity of re-treading old ground in later levels just with new enemies in it, we shall see though.
Just to not you can download FREE Elite Suit from MS marketplace (dunno if its on PSN? maybe Marketplace promo item as it's green and called Elite.) that gives you a level 5 suit with all inventory slots, so very handy from the start and it costs 0 in the shop.
A good free unlock from EA

I'm at Chapter 4 and still loving this. Just upgraded to Level 3 suit which is a real help, as you have to be very strategic over what items to bin and what to take with you, then back track and fill your boots after an encounter.
The influences in the game have been discussed, I am getting Doom3, System Shock, Bioshock, Resi 4,Aliens vs Predator (Jaguar), Dark Sector, Quake4 and Mass Effect vibes. I do think the game has also tried to innovate. The fact each monster has a weak spot that must be "Decapitated" means the difference between 3 shots and 7, keeps comabt fun. The 3D GUI is fantastic and keeps the player immersed in the game world.
The guns are pretty cool tool, and the second fire modes are interesting.
It must also be said, I think the lighting and sound effects are amongst the best I've ever experienced.
So, I'm 1 third done, and the game is so far one of my best experiences of 2008.
