To tell would be to spoil the fun - your radio can tune into the S.O.S. signal and that is how you find it!

I thought the SOS signal was the Rangers cry for help - but ok will walk in random locations for a few hours and fight my umpteenth giat rad scorpion till i get the signal

I actually completed the game without meeting or finding out who that Dog DJ was......... Will hafta find a way of gettin to the GNR building - me thinks its done through the metro system

Wasn't that part of the main missions, I'm sure i done that at the very start!

Yeah, its one of the few main story bits that I've actually done.

It's possible to bypass the GNR questline if you

managed to find Dad at the vault he's in before you visit GNR

              .

                Also, if you speak with

the scientist who worked with your father at Rivet City she will give you information about your father that skips you past the GNR mission

                too.

I'v just picked up this game on the cheap and notice there is a few pieces of content for it doing the rounds. Before I start the game am I best to get some or all of the additional bits and pieces, or are they best played after? Are they all worth the buckage?

Any advice is appreciated, as I don't want to read through this thread in fear of spoiling any part of the game.

I'd get Broken Steel, it lets you level up you character further in the main game also. A fair few people reached the level cap whilst playing the main game which was a bit frustrating.

I don't like paid DLC, and personally I'm going to wait and buy the GOTY edition with the DLC content included (I already have the original edition of the game).

Having said that, try the game first and see if you enjoy it. There are a few here who just didn't get into it. If you want to play the DLC then the important thing is to install it before you finish the main mission or (I think?) before you reach level 20, so there's plenty of time in which to see whether or not you're going to get into Fallout 3 before you have to commit to the DLC.

Thanks for all the advice. Is the content that is down in price next week worth the 560 points it will be going for?

Dug this back out inbetween bouts of EDF games. Played through one of the later story missions and now have
following me around. Some questions about him:

Does he ever need ammo for his gatling laser? I try to check every now and then but it doesn't seem to show in his inventory. Does he need healing? I can see his life bar when it get's depleted but can't find an option to give him a stimpak. Also (before I test it out) does he stick with me If I fast travel?

Yeah he'll stick with you pretty much to the end of the game if you want him too, (you really have to try hard for him to be killed) and has unlimited ammo

He died in my game, really quickly.

I seem to remember buying Oblivion and taking it back rather promptly. Fallout I bought at the weekend and I've ploughed hours in already. Rough around the edges? Totally. Compelling? Utterly.

I played (endured) Bioshock up until I killed the first main guy (the Irish bloke) at which point I could put up with it no more. On and on and on and...

One thing about Fallout I really like is the way it scares the pants off me. Creeping around corridors thinking I'm gonna die as I have no health and little ammo is so Resi. One question though, should I be wandering about with my weapon drawn all the time or will that make me more liable to encounter hostile reactions from everything I meet?
