I'm not a fan of the menu either. Did you know you can use the d-pad to select between your two weapons, ammo and health?
Also you can just select a weapon, then hold left trigger and press A to perform a reload, saves combining items in the menu...

I did not know that, I shall give it a go tonight and see if that improves the situation. Cheers PhilG!

Yeah, or they could of just made reloading automatic. or is that just not residenty evilly enough?

Have people just gone into the game without having a look at the control schemes or something?!

You do reload automatically, after running out a clip if you press shoot again you (wait for it....) reload! As mentioned previously you can also pres LT+A to reload at anytime too if you wish. What did people want? You think of reloading and the game does it automatically?

The little red barrels do, the green gas can in the first building doesn't. Well it didn't after I emptied a full clip into it.

I think people are picking up the pad and immediately deciding that the controls suck with out giving the game a chance and trying to understand how they actually work. One of my friends told me the game was a piece of **** last week I then convinced him to play the game properly and in co-op, he now thinks its amazing as he had so much fun working with his partner in obliterating those zombies. Still there's no pleasing everyone and there are still players who wont use Zangief because of how his moves are performed..

Surely, though, that can be attributed to the fact that both demo levels are set pieces?

Its times like this I wish I had some kind of dimension hopping machine. I'd love to see the reaction if say, hmmm, EA released Dead Space with can't move and shoot Resi 4 controls after say, hmmm, Capcom had released Resi 5 with move and shoot controls.

Personally I think these controls are a throwback to last gen after experiencing the delights of Dead Space. Its probaby not a game killer (in fact I'm sure it isn't - were it not for Dead Space I doubt anyone would have said a word) but I do think Capcom have really missed a trick here and its giving it an instantly dated feel.

That was my impression too. I'm expecting the finished game to have quite a variety of tones and locations.

I'm still a little concerned by the co-op thing - but thats because I'm a fairly old git style solo player.

I'm not 100% sure, but I *think* that up/down/left/right on the d-pad correspond to the up(2)/down(8)/left(4)/right(6) boxes in the inventory screen:

                      |1|2|3|
                      |4|5|6|
                      |7|8|9|

I'm guessing that you could determine what is assigned to the d-pad points by moving stuff around in the inventory screen (I've not tested that). Unless the game auto-assigns stuff that is.

The controls are definitely a throwback to last gen, and it would have been nice to see the game implement a more 'modern' method. The sniping is ****ing great though - covering my mate playing as Sheva from across the street and head-shotting the zombies/infected who got too close was great.

Not sure it's a day 1 purchase for me, but I'm tempted for the co-op.

The more I play it the more I fall in love with it.

Yeah there are some annoyances; Sheva not being able to get out of the way of the nasty bosses being the main one but i found that once the controls clicked (and after switching to Type A so it is Resi 4) I was managing to run around and pick off the enemies pretty well with little fuss.

I wish they had put a slower paced section in the demo as well as one set piece so we could judge how the game feels during the "lull" sections though.

The best thing about a new Resi game, I think, is finding out how it fits into the world Capcom have created and I can't wait to see what crazy twists are in 5!!

Well, I'm not one of those.

And I'm certainly not one of those either.

IMO Resi 4 was a slugfest with the amount of action to be found there, it didn't really get scary until the regenerators towards the end and throughtout the entire game you were kicking ass, not looking out to survive in the slightest, the only way you could possibly run out of ammo is if you were such a **** shot you wouldn't have even tried a game featuring guns in the first place.

I played the Wii version just before starting Dead Space and I plan to go back for the Handcannon so there isn't a problem with the controls either.

Resi 5 (so far) seems like a slugfest because I'm in control of a slug... one that's jacked up on steroids and creatine.

I'd like something simple and straightforward here - I think its in danger of disappearing up its own rectum MGS style.

In my most humble opinion of course

Crap. Look at me. I sound so negative about this game. I'm not. I'm looking forward to it. Honest!

I'm going to say something positive. I liked the harsh daylight in the demo - I thought that made a refreshing change for a zombie game.

Day 1 purchase for me as long as the co-op in single player doesn't get flagged as being a problem in the full game.

Notice when you are on total RED health? You are dead by that point, the only chance you have if your partner comes to your rescue because you can't run or f**kall.

What's the point of wasting time walking around at 0.01 mph? I'd just feed myself to the fray by that point (unless I was playing co-op).

This will be a pure action game, one built primarily for co-op.

They could actually fix a lot of stuff by making it possible to run and shoot at the same time. If they are leaving the 'survival horror' frame they may as well expose their bollocks fully and go ahead and throw it in the bin, going off of Resi 4 that wouldn't be such a bad idea.

It's like the game wants to be one thing, but it's strict history won't let it fly - so therefore it persists with being held back and being a mixture of a really old system with new bits trying to make it fresh and something that could be awesome otherwise, it's a tease in a sense.

FFS It only took Super Star Wars one revision to incorporate running and shooting.
