Me again, here to bitch about the game some more. How the **** do you beat a turtling Akuma? I need help. All he's doing is backing off bit by bit, fireballing all the time and dragon punching me if I get close. I can't get close on the ground and I can't get to him by air, and I have no projectile attacks as i'm playing with C. Viper.

What do I do?

Is she just a low tier character, or am I rubbish? She doesn't seem to have ANY moves that take priority over anyone elses, her ultra seems quite hard to hit with, she doesn't take a lot of damage, and i'm having a very hard time with it. I really am.

I won't lie to you, it's not easy and you're not rubbish. I think viper is very hard to use effectively but she definitely has potential. A turtling Akuma is the worse kind, it takes a lot of patience and skill and even then it's tough

Anyway a few tips I seen for viper:

her seismic hammer is a good trade for a fireball (HP, far range), when you start to read when the fireball is coming do this and you should deal more damage than he does to you even if the fireball hits you

I'm also sure at least 1 version of her burning kick goes over the fireball which can be good if the range is right and move you forward fairly well protected

viper also has the high jump which can allow you to cover more ground when you read an opening and get you in with an attacking chance

If he's a turtler you're also gonna have to think about getting in with tick throw and FADCs into throw. have no qualms about throwing him over and over if he is going to sit and turtle.

You've entered into the gray area here...Some people think this kind of play is acceptable, some don't. In a ranked match you're playing to win so anything goes, doesn't mean it has to be pretty, good or fun.

I still advise you to look for player matches against people from the forum. You'll have a much more enjoyable game playing like this, and for me, is what the game is all about.

You can also get under fireballs with LP version of Thunder Knuckle, which might be useful if you're reasonably close.

I've got a sodding blister on my thumb because of this! Played the PS3 version for a few hours earlier against a buddy, not had this much fun online for years. Capcom have done a stunning job with the net code, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between local and online play...other than the fact my buddy isn't actually in the room. I fired up the 360 version after we finished to unlock a few more characters and everyone on my friends list was playing it! I've never seen anything like it, not bad for what is now a niche genre.

Goemon, Thanks for the very well written advice mate, I appreciate all of that.

Since touching this i've tried ONLY learning C. Viper, so that might explain my frustration if i've picked quite a hard to master / hard to learn character right from the start...

I'm learning to abuse her earthquake move quite a lot and use focuses on opponents as they're getting up. I've won the last 3 online ranked matches i've played Vs. Akuma's and Ken's by knocking them down with the earthquake to get in close.

You might be right re: Player Matches. I SHOULD'VE just started learning another, easier to use character but being as compulsive as I am, I choose one character and I learn the living **** out of it until I become good with it. I've been finding that incredibly hard with Viper but I think i'm slowly starting to get there.

Why not just make your own matches? I haven't once challenged someone since I bought this. All my ranked games are hosted by myself. There's no worries about people gipping like that. That's hilarious, though - one round and 30 seconds!

It's the way people do it to try to boost the points though, I have had a few game like that too but have always managed to beat them befroe the timer hits zero

I usually create the match myself and have 3 rounds and 99secs timer

Come to think of it I'm going to have to set a match like that to get the one medal type I've yet to earn. You have to win by time out. Ineed it for a trophy. Could that what peeps are doing? I'm guessing not as I could just set the match up in Player Match mode.

To be fair m8 you would probably be better off with the pads than the cheap horis are abit of a nightmare, I honestly cant do many moves with EX2 on VF5 or this (tried it today for a laugh) TE is just words apart.

Yea I went on abit but its simple get the one that you have the best stuff for. Again as I said if it was me no question with the two sticks Id be buying it on the PS3 with the high grade as the standard horis are horrofic and Im glad I dont even have to use my VF5 ex2 even on shmups ever again



Its designed for VF m8 so you learn on VF to press 3 buttons at same time for certain motions etc... so should work perfect on this. I know theirs input issues with certain older fighters but SFIV peeps have said theirs no issues with it (SRK) Its a good stick - Edit I think 1st PCB had that issue though hence the recall?

hehe i've experienced this about six times today, they just try to hide in the corner and spam fireballs until the time runs out.

Notched up over a hundred ranked wins now, although i've lost about the same i think. I'm finding more people playing as characters other than Ken/Ryu now which is nice, although i hate playing against 90% of the Akuma players online as they spam ground and airball fireballs meaning Sakura struggles to get close and then destroy half of my health bar with his god awful hard to avoid super combo!

Love this game though, never really been to an arcade and fought against people (except one time in 2000 at the Troc') so it's like having the arcade in my home, especially with everyone on here

Playing vs. Singh is infuriating. I won about 3 out of 25 matches and came close on two others.

Vs. Dhalsim my best chance is Honda and even then I'm just scrambling moves as I've only used him about three times so far.

At least after playing Jassi I went straight into ranked and took the piss back up to near 1900.

Oh, and my smoothie maker broke, so no more smoothies or liquid breakfast for me until I try and blag a new one for my birthday on the 17th. FFS!!!
