Yeah, first thing I did with custom config the top three to punch and bottom three to kick for my VSHG. Might as well set it up the way it'll be in the arcades.

Well that tells me 2 things.
1.) All those hours on the SFII machine have burned the controls into my mind
2.) I'm not as fast as I used to be!!!
The button lines are somewhat curved, which I like. Back in the day I think some machines had straight lined buttons, and the newer ones had curved like my VSHG.

Loving the game so far even though I'm pretty baws at i5. Quick question tho - I picked up an SE Fight Stick (lucked out and got one from Game before they ran out) and I'm now really struggling to pull off the specials and ultras with any degree of regularity - maybe 30-40% of the time. Now I've never used a home stick before so does it just take time to get used to it or what? Didn't have problems when I was using the standard PS3 controller so is it just a sensitivity issue or something?
Also - is there a difference in setting the controller setting to "Controller" instead of "Arcade Stick"? It's currently set to Arcade Stick and the dip switch is set to LS (left analogue stick) for the control.

I was talking about in the game - there's an option to set the controller to either "Controller" or "Arcade Stick" - just wondering what the difference is and if it would have any effect on my ability to hit the specials and ultras?
Apart from that I'm using the standard configuration:
LP MP HP PPP
LK MK HK KKK
The switches up in the corner of the fightstick also allow you to set whether the stick is configured to correspond to either the d-pad or the left or right analogue stick on a standard controller.
Just think it's weird that as soon as I start using the stick I lose the ability to hit the special moves every time. I'm thinking it's more that I'll have to get used to it.
Got my ass handed to me many times last night but it's amazing how much stuff you pick up when you're getting slaughtered out there

Maybe - here's a theory - there's some kind of 'allowance' built in to the pad settings to take into account that the moves are hard to pull off. By setting to stick mode these allowances are removed, requiring you to be 'arcade perfect' with your moves?
I say this because I'm a fairly shocking SF player yet, for the first time in a SF game, I can pull off specials dead easy, like 99% of the time I can Shoryuken (previously unheard of). I'll try switching to stick mode tonight to see if I get worse. I have the HORI FS3 BTW.

I'm the same. I've got the EX2 stick and the only moves I have an issue with are the Ultras and Supers using two QCF or QCB motions. For some reason I just can't nail an effective way of doing the movement. I should really take the time to learn it, but the SF pad is easier and I'm quite impatient

That's kind of what I was thinking. I'm usually terrible so it was a real (nice) surprise to be pulling off moves with the normal PS3 controller and a real shock when I couldn't hit them with the arcade stick. I can pull off normal QCF moves (Hadokens etc) but just can't get the double ones req for the specials.Last edited by buggenhagen; 05-03-2009, 13:37.

Well remember a stick is very different from a pad and if you have been playing with a pad for years you are not going to be a master of the stick straight away. It is going to take time to learn.
I remember back in the day playing with a stick on the arcade in 91 till the SNES release I could do all the moves and found adjusting to a dpad took a long time. Now I have been a pad player for 15 odd years my stick skills are quite rusty, i find the 2p side easer to do moves then 1p which is the other way round from a pad.

The only difference between the 'stick' and 'pad' mode is the way the buttons map. TypeA for pad is set up for how the 360 pad (and madcatz fightpad) is laid out. TypeA for stick is laid out to work with the HORI stick's button layout (which has b, x and y across the top row rather than x, y and rb).
