Finished this last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish and would easily put it in my top 5 games of the year. Didn't particularly find it that repetitive either. I guess that may be because I've only been playing an hour here and there since I got it at launch a few weeks back.

Not really a game I'd want to replay through again any time soon, but I'm definitely going to go back and mop up a few of the achievements (except the flag ones!).

          Bring on the sequel

Me too, very good game, really enjoyed it. As far as the sequels are concerned...
            OMG SPOILERZSS!

At the end when you have Eagle vision and read the credits and all that, if you look at the walls and floor around the centre there are various texts. Now we can be pretty certain that this is a trilogy. The main stuff that stuck out for me was the Oriental text and the crude Pagoda drawings, so I reckon we could get one of the sequels set in feudal Japan,

which, lets be honest, would be AWESOME!
Unless of course, they bugger the whole thing up like Prince of Persia, and set the sequel in Nottingham Rock City.

              Are we talking

It makes sense to me, especially as the achievement you get for looking at the wall is called

                "visions of the future"

                .
                So I think we're talking

Ninjas, and Samurai and Throwing stars

                , oh my!
                My guess is

China or Japan, with a bit more interactive modern day stuff chucked in.

Altair running along rooftops with people below running with lanterns held up to the roofs looking for you would be awesome

I've lost all motivation to play this any further - stuck it on last night and simply couldn't be arsed - trailing somebody to kick their head in, get in fight, others join, then guards hey presto you need to do it again.

The monotony and repitition are nearly staved by the outstanding technical & art achievements but not quite.

I think it's a game you need to play start to finish without mixing it up with other titles.

Yup thats the way i done it yosh. And i struggled with it about 75% through. I thought to myself "Can I be arsed" then powered through the repetition knowing i probably wouldnt go back to it if i started playing through H3/Orange Box again.

Still didnt get any of the story at the end either.

Oh well. Its done, move on. Look forward to AC2 after theyve taken the critisism and repetition faults on board.

I tell you this - i've never wanted a game to END more in my bloody life.. it just KEPT going at the end .. I actually shouted on in frustration " **CKING END " ... they need a serious class in how to not keep DRAGGING it out with 50 on 1 fights which just end up giving me a headache due to the frustrating combat / camera jankyness. Story meant absolutely nothing and I actually had to check a faq at the end as I was just walking around the place really confused - ended up having to use my eagle vision which i didn't use once throughout the entire game ... bent.

As momo says - might be better in AC2 when they actually have some interesting missions and stuff like that.

Tends to be the case with Ubi games where they have a good system i.e. freerunning/ go more or less anywhere etc, and yet they spoil the last quarter of the game with a button bashing exercise.

They did the same with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, where for at least 90% of the game it was wonderfully platform-esque... and yet, when you receive the uber sword it turned into a slash & hack fest, with ultimately a damp squib of a final boss encounter.

Thing is I never felt it was that much of a problem in Sands of Time; the uber-sword was much deserved payback, and the final boss... well, much as I enjoy classic arcade confrontations I don't think all games have to end that way. I quite liked it, felt the whole thing wrapped up nicely. I have rarely been so frustrated with any aspect of a game as I was on realising how, how, how CRAWLING IN MY SKINNNNNNNNNN Warrior Within really was (I didn't play it when it actually came out). Utterly, utterly pointless.

But yes, while I liked Assassin's Creed's ending it was very poorly implemented. I had to look up what I was supposed to do too - how was I meant to think of that when I've done nothing with Desmond but walk around and chat to people the entire time? I could see a sequel doing really well, true, but I could also see it going horribly horribly wrong.

Still, at least they could wrap it up with a brilliant third game serving as a thinly veiled apology for every mistake they made with the second, right?

I finally finished the game and I have very mixed feelings about it. The ancient setting of the Animus is truly spectactular. There are definitely set pieces in this game that will set the benchmark for an awful long time.

Al Tair's ability scale each city whether on foot or on rooftop provides for great variety and ensures that there is no linerarity in terms of completing your assasination objective.

As to the 'not so goods'. The investigations are poor in my opinion. Usually the information imparted issn't insightful as the ultimate goal shows up on the HUD anyway as long as you successfully pickpocket, eavesdrop, etc. Echoing most other criticisms, once the pattern was set for the first assassination, it was set for most of he others.

I also found the combat very clunky. Moe so towards the end with the fight with the penultimate boss and his Templars when I really felt like giving up. However i persisted and through sheer luck I managed to do it, but I'm not going to try my hand again. It was getting more frustrating each time I was set upon by the Templars and they just hacked away at me.

Anyway, there are certain aspects of this game which should clearly be heralded but it's far from perfect. But it is a hugely enjoyable game when you look past those warts and wallow in the majesty of the locales and the atmosphere within the city. It's one the few games that I have been bothered to finish over the last 4 years so I think that is praise enough from me.

WTF is it with this game ? Stuck it on yesterday to try and "push on" and found myself enjoying it again despite the fact I'm still doing the exact same things.

Bloody weird game. I'm calling it the JRPE.
