Wonder how well this is going to run on nVidia cards

    Comment

If you've got a 6800-series card, then almost certainly fine.

      What are your specifications anyway?

I heard you recently upgraded for Half-Life 2.

Where are those CS: SOurce benchmarks? I'm interested, it'll give a general guide.

It probably won't. The game is nowhere near as graphically intensive as Half-Life 2 and is missing many of the special effects possible under Source due to multiplayer performance considerations.

In any case, here's an index to some of the benchmarks.

If it runs ok, I might get the game after all (a 10 from Edge is pretty impressive, as is the review text).

However, I can't afford to upgrade from a GeForce Ti4200 any time soon (for those who noticed my Radeon 9550 thread, it ended up in my work collegue's box instead). So I'll need to see benchmarks; Doom3 is only just playable.

              Mid -

It's the $64,000 question. I honestly don't know how well it'll run on the weaker Nvidia cards. I suppose it depends on the rest of your configuration too.

But look at it like this... Even if you have to play on mid-to-low resolution/details, at least you won't then be missing out (likely) on game of the year.

Indeed I did. Ended up with Athlon64 3000+, 1Gb dual channel, 6800GT, and a 5.1 kit (thanks to Ravon). Not exactly cutting edge, but hopefully it'll do HL2 justice

                  I'd say that's a very good system.

I'm running on an Athlon 64 3200+, 1GB DDR and an X800Pro myself, and it's roughly the same. In CS: Source I can easily run it in 1280x1024 with full AA/AF and maximum detail levels without any performance hit (60fps-70fps).

You should be getting similar on your setup, so I'd expect great peformance from that rig Chad.

I was hoping you'd say that

                    Woot indeed.

You were worried HL2 would not run properly on that!

Just making sure - I'd heard all manner of tales about it being uber-optimised for ATi cards and whatnot. Besides, there seems to be something amiss with my rig as my 3D Mark scores are about 20% less than they should be.

But it's HL2 I'm concerned with so hopefully I should be able to pwn it

But that was with the last generation of graphics cards from nvidia which weren't as good in terms of dx9 performance compared to ATI cards at the time. Nvidia have improved their graphics cards markedly with this gen(depending on how well they fare in HL2 compared to ATI cards, I would say the 6800GT is probably the best value high end card).

Got my first response, which is from Simplygames. They said they did at one point list the ltd edition online but have since sold out of their allocation and thus can no longer offer it for sale

Lets hope gameplay come back with the response I want.....

EDIT - AND!! would you believe my luck Game.net have since removed the ltd edition for pre-order from their site. Wonder if they have either a) sold out or b) removed it from sale for another reason bugger

Haven't received any email from Game saying they've stopped it... must be ordered out.

I might have to order it in-store *shudder*

EDIT: Just thought, well why not contact VG+ they are afterall ace. Within 30 seconds of emailing them I get a response letting me know they are currently checking with purchasing to see whether they will or not they are going to stock it. And that they would get back to me asap.

Lets hope VG+ do stock it, even if it does arrive a few days after release date I'll have Halo 2 and GTA:SA to keep me busy (plus it'll be cheaper than ?50 hopefully).
