Bah but it's a date so ho-hum I'll cheer up eventually I suppose. Just it's gonna clash with Halo 2 now and I'm not diluting the experince of one with the other (he says).

On another note does anyone know what hardware it was reviewed on and performance comments, would be of interest...?
PC Gamer's review isn't online, so I guess we'll just have to wait until the 5th to find that out.

As for Half-Life 2 clashing with Halo 2... It wouldn't surprise me if VUG could have released the game earlier in the month, but have purposefully put themselves two weeks apart from Halo 2 for the very reason they might interfere with each other commercially speaking (same genre, competing for same cash etc).

Holy ****, I just checked them pictures.

The thing that amazes me the most about HL2 is the characters - just check how much emotion each one has by their expressions. I just hope that this is pulled off in motion too. It makes Doom 3's characters just look flat.

doom 3's did look a little rubbish .. but more than made up for it with the enemies... the HL2 enemies look crap to me... seems they both have a good /bad thing going on in the character department

          7 weeks ?!!! 7 weeks ??!!

          :in a Total Recall style:

Dear God why so long !!!??? Its finished. Its done. It doesn't take 7 weeks to market the game that everyone already ****ing knows about ?

And we have to wait three days over here? Christs chin ! That'll be purgatory for me. I'm going to be getting the game off Steam now

            I know...

I looked at two of those screenshots and stopped as I immediately saw a big spoiler so no more...maybe...damn it's tempting though.

What we need now is confirmation that, if you've got the Steam vs, you'll be able to start playing at 12:01am on the 23rd 'cos if so I'll be taking a day off work for that one...thinking about it some more that means it'll be around 5am for us lot, deary me.

A job for Mr Concept and his Valve mail access methinks...

                7 weeks?!?!? But its finished!

Steam all the way. Can't believe there's a staggered release date, just wait for the big shock horror stories about piracy of it on the BBC and other news websites.

"Last week we received a Half-Life 2 release candidate from Valve, and in its current state Half-Life 2 is brilliant and looks astonishing," a Vivendi spokesperson went on to talk about the current status of the game, saying: "Vivendi Universal Games is in the midst of determining whether Half-Life 2 meets the gameplay standard of the company and more importantly the devoted Half-Life fanbase."

The news story goes on to say that Vivendi are hopeful of announcing a release date to the public very soon. They also state that their own retail sources reckon a late November release date as being "highly feasable".
So that date of the 26th isn't set in stone ? Or maybe it is ?

Talk about not being able to get a straight answer

And as for that bit I put in bold - have they got their heads up their bum ?

Why is nothing ever clear cut with Half-Life 2?

You'd think in the run up to release Vivendi would actually want to let people know when the damn thing is coming out?

Len, as for the Steam (US/UK) situation upon release... I'll contact Doug Lombardi by email and see if he can give any more information, but considering the game hasn't been officially given a date yet, I'd imagine he probably won't be allowed to say anything.

Up. Down. Up. Down. I feel sick.

I think this quote from PCZone sums it up well.

Considering the high profile of Half-Life 2, Vivendi's reluctance to confirm a release date before it's content with the code is understandable, but for that fanbase it talks of - of which we count ourselves a part - to say it's incredibly frustrating would be an understatement, especially considering the lengthy delay that the game has already suffered.

And not the mention the fact that magazine reviews of Half-Life 2 are now out there in the great world of videogame-dom. It's all becoming a bit surreal really.
The game is finished. The game is receiving reviews. Yet we still don't know when it's going to release.

The world's most anticipated sequel since Ocarina of Time.

                        Yes. Up and down indeed.

The handling of all this is hardly a great advert for Vivendi is it? I'm beginning to wish Valve had gone with EA.... it might have been given some american-pop-rock soundtrack but at least we'd have a date!

VU must be angling for the `most hated publishing company 2004 `

If Doom 3 can be put out 2 weeks after its `gone gold` - why is HL2 any different ?

While there's been no gold announcement, the RC might as well be the same thing.

Valve are done with it cos they wouldn't have given the RC to magazines to review unless it was done. What actual changes can VU make ?

VU :- "Hmmm, I don't like this Dr Kleiner character. Take him out"
                            Valve:- "Uhm, nope"

VU:- "These combine. Too many Nazi conitations. Remove them."
                            Valve:- "Uhm, no"

VU:- I don't like your use of lighting on that Combine Citadel. Change it"
                            Valve:- "GTF"

On another note, after seeing those pics I'm starting to get twitchy again. I've been through this before, but I'm wondering if my 9800pro 256mb card is going to do this game full justice. I know, I know, I'm being silly, but with a game like this you know its got to be the ultimate experience all the way.

                            Comment

Your 9800Pro will be most likely be able to handle Half-Life 2 brilliantly with full details in 1024x768. After all that's what all the binks shown have been running on so far. I expect Half-Life 2 to perform similarly to Far Cry, but perhaps a little better with Radeon cards. No need to worry.

As for VU... Then yes, I agree, they aren't doing themselves any favours. At least with EA you would have had some professionalism involved with the handling of the run up to release. And as for those changes you mention Spatial, like you say, Valve won't take any **** from the company that wants to steal the Half-Life IP away from them in court.

                                SWEET! I LOVE IT.

I can't wait for this game again!

                                Thank you buddy.
