just completed HL2. Nothing interesting to add except its gotta be the best game evar!!!

    simply brilliant.

so i thought I'd read this HL2 thread which i avoided months ago so not to spoil it, but then I realised its about a million pages long.

PeteJ, which part with the boat do you mean? I never saw any boats to drive, I hope I didn't miss anything....

edit: ok you mean the hovercraft. how could I forget a MASSIVE chunk of the game?

Here's a little question about the ending.

Does anyone else feel extremely sad about it? It's almost obvious that the destruction of the citadel equals the destruction of all of the characters you loved and made a connection with throughout the game. First of all, the death of Eli Vance, Alyx, and Mossman is almost a foregone conclusion. Also, the massive explosion that erupted probably means the destruction of a large portion of City 17. I don't see Barney or even Dog surviving the blast either. It's extremely sad because you really build a connection with these characters throughout the game. And it wouldn't be a good idea to bring them back in a sequel by some magical occurrence like "the G-man saved them" because that would seem like such a contrived plot that I don't think would go down well. So, sad as it may be, I think that Eli, Alyx, Barney, Mossman and Dog are all dead. What do you folks think of this?

Very true, and possibly a good way of

taking the next game in a totally new direction. A mass cull of charcters may be enough to burden Gordon with enough raging desire to actually shake free of the G-man's enslavement.

But then we have no idea what Valve have planned, so they could pull anything out of the hat.

Ive just started playing around with the 'Garry's mod' Mod for hl2, and its fantastic!!!

The mod basicly changes all the guns to utility tools that allow the player to spawn items from the hl2 game, not only this but you can weld (glue) items together very simply by selecing a weld option and clicking on the two items to be stuck together. The maker has also included several items which can become wheels and set to rotate automaticaly at set speeds, you can also add axis, or fixed lines between items (rubbery, or stiff), or freez items in mid air. The possabilities are endless. So far some cool things ive seen are:

A giant slingshot, someone made a giant slingshot online by constructing two very large towers out of barrels, and creating a wire inbetween them and attaching an item in the middle. The same person also attached the hover craft into the middle and you could get into it and do giant loop the loops.

I spent most of thisevening creating an amphibious vehicle out of blue barrels ,and I even made a nice seat for the top and a bunch of thrusters out of oxygen barrels, and I was suprised how well it worked.

The most fun creation so far has been a big ass rocket, It also worked out better than expected but would eventualy reach the max height of the map and bounce around all over the place.

Anyone else playing this mod, or seen anything intresting?

I guess most of us would have already seen this but heres the teaser for the expansion.

Personally I think its the most uninteresting shot I've seen of hl2, and that takes some doing! Seriously instead of being artsy (ooh a silhouette figure!) they should of just released a kick arse shot of something remotely interesting.

There is a really cool interview in this months PC Gamer with Robin Harper one of the designers on Half Life 2 and Mark Laidlaw valves in house writer. There is some cool statements made including
"Right now, we're really, really good at making Half Life 2. We think our customers want a lot more Half Life 2. That's what were going to give them."

Also dont know if its just me misreading but it thought it gave the impression that.... Spoiler Ahead

You wont be playing as Alyx in this game, she will be your companion throughout the game. Begs the question if were not playing as Alyx, are we playing with gordon or perhaps barney? or even dog!? Who knows just what i read from the interview seemed like you will play alongside Alyx.

On the Steam site they describe Aftermath as ' the continuation of Gordon Freeman's adventures' so maybe you will be playing as him after all. Then again, Valve could be playing with us.

Thats what I thought, although (almost) everone seemed to be of the impression that it was based around Alyx.

Its might seem like an odd decision by Valve to

carry on Freemans story, as we all assumed that was going to take part in number 3, byt they've obviously got parts of the current story the still want to tell. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens to City 17, Dr Kleiner, Eli etc

The PC Gamer article does reveal some interesting tid bits. Apparently most of the Citadel is still intact and the explosion doesn't seem to have damaged much of it - the above (dull) screenshot shows that too. Its almost as if things haven't gone how the Gman expected and he's put you back into City 17 to finish off the mysterious `contract` that Breen mentioned.

I'm trying not to get hyped about this as god knows when it will actually be released, but I can already feel that lovely bouncy Half Life 2 feeling creeping up again

Heh I'm feeling that lovely bouncy feeling again. It's like waiting for christmas.

Anyway they had better not mess up with a retarded story mechanic to explain how Alyx managed to survive the explosion. I hope to God they don't mess that up.

OH DEAR GOD THIS GAME IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Seriously. So good. First of all, I have everything on full detail and AA at like x2. And it runs so so sooo smooth. It looks simply stunning. Like nothing I've ever seen before, I'm so glad I've got myself into proper PC gaming now. And the game plays like a dream. You want to try something quircky and cool and it lets you, I was getting shot at by the guys on top of a big walkway, 5 or 6 of them, started shooting them, then see a few barrles underneath, shoot them instead and KABANG!! The whole walkway blows and they fall through! Genius!!

And the sound is so immersive, everything makes noises, all the people talking around you. It's just amazing! I'm amazed!

                            Off to play some more!

Glad you're enjoying it. There are plenty of great moments in the game, savour them!

My tip - play it on HARD mode. It's still very easy but it will last you a bit longer than on the default difficulty.
