With regard to the character levels at genaration: You need senate approval for the Genius and the next one down. This can often be a waste of mana. What you're better off doing is levelling that character up a bit, and then transmigrating it to genius later (which doesn't need approval).

The secret to powerful characters is transmigration (and item world levelled powerful weapons and armour). There's lots of info on transmigration back through this thread.

You can complete the main story of the game with a level 100 character - the fun is finding all the hidden stuff along the way.

thanks for the tips guys, my main worry is that due to not 'knowing' it all already i'll be wasting time leveling up characters who i created in the lowest tier.

downloaded all the faqs, but couldn't find one which goes in any depth over transmigration - it sounds complicated - you forget any class specific skill yet you keep carry non class specific skills over to your new class right? :P hope its easy to tell which is which. i suspect the point is to keep transmigrating and learning all the skills, also when you transmigrate you can then select a higher tier (genius etc) so you start off with better base stats and therefore much higher final stats when leveled to maximum :P

i'll make a 'skilled' ninja later and delete some of my crappy characters, can't stand having a team full of morons who i can never use.

i was a bit let down to find out you cannot get any EXP share items :P looks like i'll have to get any new characters involved with combos to avoid counter attacks against the stronger beasts

im lvl 25 now - only.. 9974 to go thats my life gone

one thing which worrys me is that like you said - you can complete with game with a lvl100, please tell me u can get some uber strong hidden enemys who require you to get to lvl 5000 etc, otherwise its a bit pointless doing it

There is an uber strong hidden character - several of them in fact.

The official website for the game.

From the video downloads, it looks like there's a lot of Jap text. It seems to play very similarly to Disgaea, but I think I might have to wait for the translation unfortunately.

True that - but I can read Hirigana and Katakana - TBH I wasnt at all bothered about the story in Disgaea, if it's all about rinsing the game to sick levels like Disgaea I dont mind playing in pure Japanese Should be OK with menu/battle commands and item names.

If it's still very much strategy I might be able to muddle through - I'd feel like I was missing out of stuff though, especially if there's more RP to it.

It almost looks like a sequel to Disgaea - certainly some of the monster characters are the same.

Magic Box have quite a nice preview here. Ash looks almost the same as Laharl.

Wow - i heard about Phantom Brave but didn't know it was by nippon ichi!

Any news on a US release? If so, any news when??

*wipes off the sweat from excitement*

I thought Ash was Laharl! I've never played a game that asks for so much investment as Disgaea but having completed that to a fair standard, I think i'm mentally prepared enough to try for some sick levels on this game!

The way it's looking it's going to be more of the same. Which is in no way a bad thing. Everything looks a little more crispier though. Bit more detail in the sprites and the menu's etc. look better.

Play-Asia are doing an LE pack as well that has a mini illustration booklet, and a soundtrack.

No US release date for Phantom Brave, but here's hoping Atlus picks it up.

                          Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg

just spent almost an hour on one of the final levels (the one with invincibility panels) chucking enemys into each other so i could then whack the final one and level up super fast.

just as im about to hit with the final blow (after 20 minutes of pure attacking over and over again) the sword bloody poisions him and he drops dead, no EXP for anybody.

                          arrrrrrrrrrrgggg!!! ft: ft:

on the final chapter now, great game - additive but i can't pinpoint why :P

I've finally managed to beat Baal, the lord of terror. It was tough and epic battle and luck played a big part. One of his attacks is pretty weak, his others are quite deadly, and he chose his weak attack a few times. Still, managed to steal both his items, so I'm leveling up the Robo suit atm.

The uber prinny who replaces him is even more difficult. There doesn't seem to be any reason to carry on playing this really, yet I still want to. I've got a couple more endings to see, then I can finally say the game is well and truely beaten.

Considering the amount of hours invested in this game it was well worth the purchase.

Hi all! I'm new to the forum and love Disgaea, but haven't had much time to play it yet. However, a friend of mine has spent extensive time on it and has reached level 9999! Has anyone here done that yet? I saw a screenshot of his character and the stats are amazing. Something like 23 billion exp. points.

                                a qucik summary 4 others:
its coming out may 27th, and seems to have a funny characters, a great combat system, good story and deep gameplay.

i was just wandering if u guys could share your views on this excellent game coming out very soon and i hope they release "la pucelle" made by the same people.

Even the premise of the game is much different from your typical RPG. The hero of the story, such as he is, is Laharl, crown prince of the netherworld, demon, and spoiled brat. He awakens from a long slumber one day to find that his father is dead and that the netherworld needs a new overlord. The choice is obvious to Laharl, so he sets off to take control of the netherworld by force, with his not-so-trusty vassal Etna in tow. Disgaea's storyline, which unfolds using a combination of 2D artwork, text, and voice-overs, is overflowing with absurdly goofy Japanese humor, some of which is actually really funny. This sense of humor pervades the entire game--Disgaea doesn't take itself the least bit seriously, and the anything-goes philosophy expressed by Laharl, Etna, and the other demons of the netherworld actually manifests itself in the game design and the characters' personalities
