Its not just the voice acting, its the whole package. The original Uncharted is a beautifuly presented game and the story is great yes, but the gameplay and the way it combines all those elements is what makes it so special. Everything about the game is just done so well, the shooting mechanics are some of the best around, the climbing elements are as good as anything weve seen in games like Tomb Raider and Prince Of persia and although it did perhapse become a little bit too shooting orientated towards the end, there is plenty of variety to it.

Naughty Dog also gave the game an unprecedented level of detail as far as level design goes, if you actualy take the time to look around some of the levels you cant help but giggle with glee a bit at how cool it all is, you actualy do feel like youre on an adventure. It also helps that it contains so many stand out moments, youre constantly having a blast, not many games are so consistantly brilliant really.

Just one of the most polished games ever, the thing is just quality personified and if anything, it was originaly underrated by the media really.

I'm really not feeling it at the moment and I adored Uncharted. The first level is gob-smacking and my heart was thumping wildly as I played it and marbelled at the visuals, but since then nothing has matched it (i'm now on level 5).

The visuals are truly astonishing and as stated the voice acting is without equal, but the addition of a clumsy stealth section really annoyed me. I was very tired and distracted by work at the time, so maybe i'll give it some more attention at the weekend. Otherwise, I agree with everyone else, it's amazing in scale, presentation is absolutely superb and the sense of adventure is brilliant.

100% with you, it seemed a thoroughly decent but derivative and fairly repetitive game to me.

does this one fix the issue I had with the first one, mainly it was really hard to kill the enemy and so you ended up shooting the same 3 character models in the face 5 times to down them ?

Tried some online last night but, as I expected it was full
of "gangsta chattin" Americans dropping the "N-word" whenever they shot someone or you messed up an objective. Kind of soured the experience a little.

From a technical stanpoint it's great: no lag or random disconnects.

It's definitely one that will be best with a group of friends working together to win. Hopefully we can arrange something for the weekend?

I'm hoping the headset integration works better than it did for the beta - I'm using the official one and I literally couldn't hear voices over all the static. Chances are it's the game too as it still works perfectly with killzone.

I can understand that point, but no for me it is my game of the generation so far. I think overall it was greater than the sum of it parts, in that it truely clicked with me and offered me one thing I love and that few games do. The chance to play through your own great adventure in a classic Indiana Jones stylee with a never bettered cast of characters. The music, visuals, the setting, everything about it just seemed to draw me in that few if any at all adventure games had in a long time.

It was one of those joyous yet sad moments when I completed Uncharted. The feeling of a job weel done and a great thrill ride completed, followed by that hollow feeling of damn it's all over now.

I'm away this weekend by my copy of Uncharted2 has been dispatched by Amazon. Hopefully it'll be sitting waiting for me to start when I get back from my trip next week, and as I'm off the rest of the week I'm hoping to slip back in to Drakes shoes and get drawn in to that world all over again.

2 years on I still rate Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune as one of the best games this generation has produced. The few complaints I’ve seen brought up regarding the game I’ve never found myself ever agreeing with.

Its gunplay system is one of the most enjoyable I’ve played (different to a lot of games, including Gears which people feel the need to constantly compare the 2 games too but I get distinctly different feels from both games) with a distinct need for caution and precision. People have called the enemies bullet sponges but whenever I’ve played (on all difficulties up to and including Crushing) head shots have always been one hit kills.

Perhaps the strongest recommendation that I can give this game is that is one of few this generation that I’ve played through multiple times. Initially played through it after getting it Christmas 2007 (actually taking preference over Super Mario Galaxy and had it not been for SMG, Uncharted would have been my GOTY for 07). Then 3 more runs late last year (on Normal, Hard and Curshing) in quick succession. At no point did it ever feel like a chore or was the game’s impact reduced.

I simply cannot wait to get going on Among Thieves (easily my most anticipated game all year) and I am insanely jealous of those of you posting impressions here who already have it.

I agree with this, Uncharted its also possibley the only game I have on the PS3 that I will ever get all the trophies for, where as other games often make Trophy collecting feel like a chore not only were they iteregated into the game really well (linking them to the games own reward system probably helped), they were aso just damn fun to get.

How come, after completing Uncharted on Hard last night, I don't have a 'Crushing' dificulty option for a new game?

I had the same thing - it doesn't appear if you go to the 'continue' option, but if you select 'new game' it will be there (probably)

New Game doesn't even let you choose a difficulty at all. I was looking in the Game Options menu. All I had was easy, normal and hard. Weird

Woah, you've gone all welsh on us! I think new game might give you the choice if you follow through, I also remember looking under game options and crushing wasn't listed. If you look near the end of the original's first play thread you'll find what was said at the time, my memory isn't so clear.

Should probably stop derailing this now and let the nice people get back to their new game

                            WOW!

Just fantastic so far. Loving the banter, especially

                            .

I'm only on chapter 2, but if the rest of the game is as good as this, I can't see me playing much else for a while!

Just played 3 hours 30 minutes of it, which is apparently 44%. I don't play a game in one sitting for that long, it just doesn't happen. I had to literally force myself to stop, after doing 2 chapters after saying "I gotta stop", otherwise I'd have played til 4am.

Things happened around me in the real world and I didn't notice, I didn't really even care.

The opening is the most incredible opening to any game I've ever played. The voice acting, character animations...I wonder how nobody else just copies them, it's that good.

Some of the visuals...I don't want to start a console war debate, but with this and Killzone 2...I have to say the PS3 is putting a STRONG case forward for itself with exclusive games right now.

Just stunning really, if every dev put this much effort into a game it would be a better industry on the whole. I can't see anything beating this to the game of the year award to be honest.
