Oh man they're incredible. All I've managed so far is a West Ham coloured mod and kart.

I just made an old fighter pilot style chap with big tache and leather helmet.

creation stuff is amazing but they need to sort the matchmaking, I never get more than 4 people in an xp race.

I've just had a look through the first ten pages or so of uploaded mods. Are there any there that are original creations?

        They're all great though.

Have done another couple of races and it's definitely starting to click a little more now. It still feels very sensitive when you're just trying to make small adjustments, but that should come with time.

I love the shield mechanic, though I have a tendency to fire it off a little early at the moment.

to time the shield listen to the incoming weapon beeps, its like a parking sensor and when they get very close together bad stuff is about to happen.

I can't suss the boost start timing yet.

lots of depth to the control, double x press to jump, hop x from a bend to regain control, system is deep.

we love this, not played anything else all weekend. for my money its a mario kart killer with better tools than anything else thats attempted this before.

my view before was creation tools always killed the genre of game you were building, this for me manages to weld a great game with those tools.

            To boost start:
hold down accelerate (R2) while lights count down, when they turn green tap boost (L1).

I think this game is fantastic. I'm enjoying it much more than mario kart wii, the drifting is spot on, graphics are brilliant, and I love the mods - the cut scenes are hilarious too.

Anyone who cant find fun in this game is dead inside. I actually think if they can shorten the load times a fraction, then by word of mouth this could turn into a killer app for Sony.

I personally don't find the loading too bad but maybe as they opted to put an increasing % there it makes you watch it and makes you more aware than you would have been if they hadn't ?

I think they're just easier to relate to, there are originals out there but they don't stand out as much. Search for Bertha 2, that's a good original one.

I've just sat through the tutorial videos for track creation and the tools they give you are so much more powerful than I'd thought when trying it myself. It seems that you're almost unlimited in what you can create if you've the time.

There are some alright tracks out at the moment but I can't wait to see what people are going to create a few months down the line.

I'm still only in the second championship and judging by the tutorial videos the best tracks are still to come.

I love this game and so do the kids, the main reason why the PS3 has been removed from sale

can't believe I've racked up 11h and my son has close to that also.

ta for the boost start tip. we've just learnt that when another racer uses the 3x powered up turbo (the warp up the track) you can drive into their slipstream and get the benefit of it too !

can confirm the tracks start getting amazing in single player series 3, there is a brilliant hill climb one and then a superb mario circuit style drift track with high banked walls.

the feeling of pride when you see your kart or mod downloaded is awesome, earns you game XP too.

Just read this online about the free Sackboy DLC.

Just had another go at the racing and I'm struggling with the final race in the second championship, not had any issues with any races before but I must have tried 7 or 8 times and can only get to 2nd place in this one.

I'm a little surprised as the other races have been really easy.

got stuck on that one also John, you need to come first don't you ?

key seems to be a good start in these 'duel' type races as the target guy will fly off and if you can't keep them pegged back and in the group its hard to catch up

That's the one. I think you have to finish first in the final of each championship but it was really simple in the first one so I didn't notice I needed to at the time.

Unlocked everything in the first championship now.

I think it's a bit of a shame that the game doesn't steal a couple of things from Mario Kart. It could work well with an arena mode to mess around in. I think they've missed out not having something along the lines of a Mario Kart's 50cc/100cc/150cc selection for the championships as I can imagine it getting frustrating for younger kids.

I picked up Sega All-Stars Racing cheap a few weeks back and I've really, really enjoyed that too but after playing this that game just seems really simplistic in the way it plays. This seems to have far more depth in everything it does including the actually driving sand it feels much more modern to me.

I don't want it to sound like I'm putting the Sega game down because I'm not, I'd still recommend it to people.

The customisation of the Mods and tracks just seem incredibly detailed in what I've seen created by some other people but the vehicles don't appear to have anywhere near the same level of customisation which is a bit of a shame.

I keep thinking about creating a Star Wars Pod Racer and that track from the film but I don't know if I can do anything along those lines with the cars. Im not sure if you can sculpt them in the way you can Mods and tracks.

I'm going to have a look at the published creations from people on here to see what people have been up to. I like that they've kept the downloads really small as it seems to take about half a second to download stuff and I hope they don't lose that if they improve the loading times.

Pissing me off to much now. The cheapness inherent in all "Kart" games frustrates me. WHY do all devs have to follow the Mario Kart blueprint in that regard? Is it too much to ask for a game where you're not rubber banded and don't get spammed to **** on the final stretch?

A real shame, as the more courses I open, the better they become.

I thought I'd have a quick look to see if I would be able to create the pod for this before even thinking about the track. I was really limited with what I could do as I've not unlocked much yet and there's no options to sculpt the shell like there is with Mods & tracks but this is v1.

The battery engine sounds spot on when racing and it shoots a trail of sparks out the back which helps.

I wanted to try it on one of the desert tracks so had to do a quick Mod too, it's a sketch more than anything at the moment to see what I could do with the head. I'll probably just get rid of it though as I've got more of an idea which parts to start with now.

I'm having a sod of a time with one of the grudge match challenges, the difficulty seems to be set pretty low and then spike for a race out of nowhere. The online side seems a bit broken too. Everything works but getting a race can be a pain.

the game does have many of the cheap flaws you find in all kart racers, what I've also found though is that the control system is very deep, when I go back now to things in the first couple of race series I found really hard they have become much easier.

the balance between drifting, weapons, shielding and boosting is very fine as you retain enough charge to shield off the inevitable attacks on the last lap if you're leading.

I think how appealing and charming you find the whole thing really effects how annoying you find this, me and my son both found that if you have crafted a kart & mod you feel quite attached to it and want to go back and get them thru the level you are stuck on.

agree with John, when you compare this to the sega racers, which I also bought and enjoyed for a while, this is streets ahead, even just as a racer without all the tools

online does seem to have an issue with XP races as never get more than 4 people, though friendly races are often busier.

as is probably apparent from my enthusiatic posts I really think this is a fantastic game, I'm not blind to its faults but can live with them and there is so much more to enjoy. not given split second or red dead much of a look over the wk end.
